  1. With a name like that, I think it would need to be a solo project.
  2. Jim Edmonds will look to compete with/backup Carlos Gomez in Milwaukee. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/82957147.html
  3. Francoeur has nearly double the PA as Tatis in that timeframe. Tatis' splits as a sub in 08-09 are better than those as a starter. Not that he would be an everyday player should he be signed for 2010, but comparing his ability to Francoeur's is apples/organges, IMO.
  4. Speaking of Pedro...I'd almost prefer him to Smoltz if we are talking about a spot in the rotation.
  5. *Psst - your 25 man still says "2009 Mets".*
  6. Randy Winn: New York Yankee http://bases.nbcsports.com/2010/01/report-the-yankees-sign-randy-winn.html.php
  7. Better them than us.
  8. Thome's a Twin http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-twins-thome&prov=ap&type=lgns
  9. We're fucked.
  10. I don't think there's any evidence Oliver Perez never had any mental issues.

And it no longer looks like there's any hope of that happening. Yup, yup...that coupled with no significant upgrade at 1B or C makes this a pretty underwhemling off-season as it stands now. Oh yeah, and Beltran's gonna miss time.
  12. Yeah, Smoltz' shoulder scares me more than his age. He had great numbers even in 2006-07 when he was 39 and 40. Even his 6 starts in 2008 before the shoulder injury were fine. But he looked like dog poo in Boston last year and below average in St Louis.
  13. Agreed, I think Ollie and Maine will both be improved this season. I also think this is Pelfrey's put up or shut up year.
  14. IMO the options are dwindling. I think if the Reds were going to make a move with their pitchers they woulda by now. Haven't heard any link between the Mets and Bedard or Wang.
  15. Edgy DC wrote: The list of players who've taken less money to avoid New York is not large. True, but from what I saw in his Milwaukee days, Sheets is somewhat of a pussy. If he has a hangnail, papercut or dust in his eye he will take himself out of a game. I don't know that he has ever been booed as badly as he would be at Citi if he is making $8M+ in 2010 and gets off to a bad start. He has never been a big fan of the press (the Milwaukee press, mind you)...especially after things go wrong. In addition, I think Sheets is aware of his pussiness. If he is getting similar or slightly less money to pitch in Oakland or some other non-NY team, my bet says he takes it rather than come to the Mets.
  16. Sheets is the answer at this point. If he gets away (it may be entirely possible that he does not want to pitch in NY no matter the offer), I'll still go with my original choice of Garland. While he is not a #2, he would have been the 2nd best pitcher we had last year if he were pitching for us. If Smoltz is signed for the rotation, I'm writing this year off before pitchers and catchers.
  17. FOX is going to show MLB in primetime? They've never done that during the regular season, have they?
  18. *raises hand* I'm really interested to see what the expectaions are for this season by the pundits and the like. I have a feeling that the bar may be set low enough that they can exceed expectations for the first time in a few years. I'm also dreading that they may not get any better and this year will be a repeat of last year, matching or coming in below expectations.
  19. The internet is abuzz that the A's might land Sheets.
  20. Our Local Elitist Prick Video store uses your phone # as your member #. It's fairly easy to remember.
  21. We ditched Netflix a few months ago. We have a local video store that fits our needs. Cheap fees and daily specials. I also have the Direct TV package with 25ish movie channels, so we try to find something to watch there if we are going to watch TV. Netflix never worked for me. I need to make decisions while holding boxes in my hand. I also need the instant gratification of going home and watching the movie that night.
  22. I think we are deep enough with our below average catching core that I'm not going to pine for Torreabla and Snyder. If Thole is our catcher of the future, then I'll hold out for him rather than commit to another crap backstop. I'm more worried about the rotation, firstbase and the outfield.
  23. All of the FA options this year (other than Lackey) can be described as "iffy". I had as much trepidation about Pinero being a bad sign as I would Sheets. Sheets provides the most upside "if" he works out. Sheets, if healthy, will most likely not suck...we would just need a contingency if/when Sheets were to go on the DL. I have to think Smoltz would only be a bullpen option.
  24. I didn't want Pinero at all anyways. I'm now firmly on the bandwagon for Sheets AND Garland.
  25. Here's another Cardinal available: Rick Ankiel
