  1. What's the surprise. My surprise party for my birthday today?
  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I tried to think, without peeking, who the six were. I got Berra, Johnson, and Torre easily. I had got Westrum and Torborg pretty much by process of elimination, but never would have gotten Bamberger. (He was one of the ones I eliminated. I completely forgot about his post-Met fate.) Sam here. I got Westrum easily because I'm currently reading Ryczek's Amazing Mets. I should write a post about that book in the What are You Reading thread. Ryczek wrote what might be the best Mets book ever (historical category).

  4. I'm rooting for a career ending injury. And soon. Rivera has a credible shot at breaking Orosco's record for most games by a pitcher. Orosco has a 302 game lead.
  5. Benjamin Grimm wrote: If the Times charged $40 per year instead of $5 per article, I bet they'd end up making more money. Not only do I agree with you, but I was thinking the exact same thing earlier this week. Of course, I'd prefer the $40/annual rate for my own selfish interests whether or not it's a more profitable model for the NYT. I'd subscribe for $40/year, unlimited access to their entire database.
  6. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Very cool, seawolf, how you were able to pull up that paragraph from 1974. What did we do before the Internet?? For about $5.00, you can get that article off of the NYT web site. I'm betting that Seawolf has access to a free for educational purposes only database.
  7. Two footnotes to this quiz: 1 -- Hisanori Takashi's K/9IP rate would place him second among lefties. He hasn't pitched enough innings or started enough games to qualify, but I mention this because Tak is a current Met and could theoretically qualify inthe future. 2 --- Ryan might very well have the highest K/9IP rate for striking out batters as a starter. As mentioned, I included all of Ryan's Met K's. Eliminating Ryan's reliever K's might also lower his rate: relief pitchers strike out batters at a higher rate because they don't have to pace themselves for a larger workload.
  8. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Lolich is a good guess. I'll say Ray Sadecki so as not to steal yer thundah. The third lefty is Glendon Rusch: the fifth starter on the last Mets team to win the pennant.
  9. The third lefty is Glendon Rusch: the fifth starter on the last Mets team to win the pennant.
  10. Last call for the 3rd lefty. I'll post the answer in two minutes.
  11. Edgy DC wrote: NORH: El Duque. El Duque is the 4th righty. Cone 8.72 Ryan 8.70 Pedro 8.58 El Duque 8.17 Doc 7.78
  12. MFS62 wrote: Nope, The question didn't say starters. It said minimum of 200 IP Later I thought it said both.
  13. MFS62 wrote: Lefty: Perez. A winner here. Ollie Perez has the highest all time K/9 IP rate among Met lefties. Nope, not with the minimum of 200 IP Perez 8.6 Myers (240 IP) 9.9 Later Myers relief appearances 185 Myers starts 0
  14. To round out the top five, we're missing 4Righty and 3Lefty. Hint, these two pitchers are not obvious. I'll post the top 5 five lists in a few minutes.
  15. Ceetar wrote: Lefty: Perez. A winner here. Ollie Perez has the highest all time K/9 IP rate among Met lefty starters.
  16. Edgy DC wrote: Pedro and Johan. Pedro is third among rightys. Johan is fourth among leftys. Who's 4th among rightys? Rightys 1 Cone 2 Ryan 3 Pedro 4 ?????? 5 Doc Leftys 1 ???????? 2 Sid 3 ?????? 4Johan 5 Leiter
  17. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Matlack and Cone Cone is a winner. Matlack isn't. Cone 8.72 k/9 IP Ryan 8.70 K/9 IP. Nobody guessed third or fourth place among rightys.
  18. Seaver and Sid. OE: Though Cone's a great guess. Is Coney a guess or a comment?
  19. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Wait, doy-- Koos. Nope.
  20. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Seaver and Sid. Seaver is 7th among righthanders.
  21. Ashie62 wrote: Gooden and Cone Which one? They're both rightys. Only of those could possibly be right.
  22. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Nolan Ryan, perhaps? I'll guess Nolan and Sid Fernandez. Double Deuces for Grimm. Ryan and Sid are the runner ups on the lefty righty lists.
  23. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Gooden and Leiter These guesses are too obvious and therefore likely to be wrong. High Fives for you all around. Leiter and Doc are both 5th place (Lefty and Righty respectively, duh) alltime Mets k/9 IP
