  1. What a weak class of first timers.

You didn't take Misplaced Dodger Loyalty Gravitational Displacement into account? Bullspit. I can riff on the JR Rotunda but in this thread, I limited my consideration of CF strictly to its moronic playing dimensions. Did you know that it was the Wilpons who ultimately signed off on the CF field dimensions?
  3. Ceetar wrote: Valadius wrote: He's talking to MLB Network from Toronto, in front of his Blue Jays uniform. personal preference plays a large part right? (Piazza has stated he'd prefer the Mets) The player's personal preference plays no part at all unless the choice is what the HOF considers a close call. Thus, for example, Roberto Alomar will not get to choose to be enshrined in a Mets cap, no matter how strongly he might want to go in as a Met. My hunch is that, on the other hand, Piazza's preference will be considered in choosing between the Mets and Dodgers. The Hall makes the final call, though.
  4. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: "Extraneous" might be more to the quick. With all due respect, it's a thread about what we think will happen for Beltran in the coming season, not "How Much Sense Does a Robinson Rotunda Make," Part III. That said... god DAMN, do I want to see Beltran being all ultrastellar again, if only for another half-season. I think Beltran's HR totals will be 27% less than what he would hit in an alternate universe where everything is as is except that the Mets play their home games at Shea Stadium. And the JR Rotunda didn't even cross my mind when I calculated my furshlugginer factor for ecch CF.
  5. What was so gratuitous about my Wilpons remark? Joan Payson didn't design CF.
  6. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: His knees are shot, he's probably off the juice, and I don't have any fantasies of his being healthy, as productive as he used to be, or worth much on the trade market. That, too.
  7. Gwreck wrote: It's not just the new park. Beltran had a pronounced home/road split in homers when he played in Shea, too: 46 Home and 71 Road from 05-08. One can reasonably assume that if CF existed five years ago, Beltran's 2005-08 home road splits for HR's would be skewed even more. Shea has nothing to do with this. Your data is consistent with what was common knowledge: that Shea was not a HR hitter's park. Neither is CF.
  8. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: I want to be optimistic, too. Plus, there's a little sartorial self-interest involved (he's a prominent member of the LWFS jersey family, and I'd rather not have to shunt those to the back of the closet with Mikey until he makes the Met HoF). But, yeah, anything above a 20-25 HR-, 15 steal- and a .280*/.360*/.470 triple-slash**-projection would seem to be approaching fantasyland borders. I think those are attainable, and I think he puts up about half of them wearing the uniform of Queens. *Bump up or down 10 points as BABIP dictates. **Still fun! I'm in the minority on this one, but I like my Mets jerseys even more so after the player I'm wearing leaves the Mets. I think Beltran'll be glad to get the hell away from this stupid furshlugginer stadium the Wilpons signed off on. I know that I would if I had 30+ HR power in a neutral stadium. His injuries might be detracting from talk that he's another CF casualty. Unless it's the injuries. And the not so significant sample size.

I'd like to do a road trip to Pittsburgh. What's the deal with those famous Primanti's sandwiches? I'd guess that an order of large fries packed into a sandwich is gimmicky schlock, but they're so popular. Cole slaw also packed in there. The mythology as I understand it is Primanti's customers included truckers who needed to eat with one hand while driving. Well then why stop at fries and slaw? Why doesn't Primanti's dip the entire sandwich in a tub of coca-cola to top it off?

I thought you were looking for most career home runs by a Met who never hit any as a Met -- but Bay did hit a handful in 2010. "None as a Met" confused me. Yogi Berra would be the answer to that trivia question.

(Not that I would've guessed Milner if I were playing. I'm an impressively knowledgeable Mets fan myself). I just noticed that Conine was a RIGHT answer. Wowee. I had the benefit of having looked up the Digger's numbers a few months back after a talk with an older Met fan about guys he hated back in the Grant years. There were only three wrong answers. Two of the wrongs were the first two Mets to miss the cut. Amazin'. Amazin'. Amazin'. Over the years, I've read all about the failed --doomed from the start, apparently-- relationship between Hebner, the Mets and Mets fans. But I don't seem to remember any of it as it was happening. This Hebner saga is like one big history lesson for me. And I was around for the '79 Mets.
