  10. Today, were looking for the top 35 Mets pitchers with the most career wins. (top 36, technically theres a three way tie for the 34th spot). Please read the scoring rules for this trivia contest because there is a new and dastardly scoring wrinkle. Scoring: Each pitcher ranked one through 29 is worth one point. Pitchers ranked 30 or higher are worth two points. There are no penalties for wrong answers. If you think that Mardie Cornejo belongs in the top 35 (36, technically) feel penalty-free to submit Cornejos name as a guess. Today, it's not wrong to be wrong. Do deduct three points for any post that contains multiple guesses. Deduct three points for any repeat guess any guess thats already been submitted by another forum member. This penalty will be enforced whether the repeat guess is a right or wrong answer. I suppose that this penalty might slow down those contestants who submit guesses in rapid fire torrent. But on the other hand, slowing down might allow another forum member to snipe your intended guess, thus triggering this penalty. Deduct five points for any posts that have been edited. No post editing. Even posts with no guesses will be penalized if they were edited. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7t. 7t. 9. 10. 11. 12t. 12t. 14. 15. 16. 17. 18. 19. 20. 21t. 21t. 23t. 23t. 25. 26. 27. 28. 29. 30. 31t. 31t. 33. 34t. 34t. 34t. So I'd give the point to CF. And if 1+1 had been 4 last month, then I'd call 4 the correct answer to that question, too. I also should've known Rickey was the answer.
  12. Chad Ochoseis wrote: And if 1+1 had been 4 last month, then I'd call 4 the correct answer to that question, too. Why? The question didn't ask us for last month's answer. There was no qualifier. Not only that, but Ceetar's correct answer preceded CF's wrong answer.
  13. Until he retired, Hoffman was the active player closest to Jesse Orosco's major league record for most games played by a pitcher (JO - 1,252; TH - 1,035). With Hoffmans's retirement, Mariano Rivera moves up a notch, and is now the active player closest to Orosco's record. Rivera finished the 2010 season with 978 games played. Rivera, who needs to appear in 275 more games to pass Orosco, turned 41 last November. Rivera appears to be at least five full seasons away from Orosco's record -- no small task at Rivera's age, notwithstanding Mariano's stellar health record and pitching excellence. On the other hand, everything about Rivera's career has been otherworldly, so far.

Herzog hasn't worn a Mets uniform in over 40 years, Vet Committee or no Vet Committee. I've presumptively awarded the point to CF based on the calendar. But cooby is the referee with the final word - she can settle this when she returns home from work. But there's nothing to settle. This is like giving credit to someone who thinks that one plus one equals four just because your auto mechanic also thinks that one plus one equals four.

  16. Rickey the H.
  17. Ike's strong, no doubt. He hits 'em farther than any other Met, maybe even as far as Delgado used to. Still, even on the road, he averaged a HR about every 29 AB. So he'll hafta improve considerably to end up among the league leaders in road HR rate.
  18. I'm going to go out on the limb and predict that Ike's road HR totals will be among the league's best. It's too bad about those CF dimensions.
  19. But it was fireballing Matt Lindstrom and, you know, Omir Santos' bat was so much quicker. (Castro had two hits in that game, too). Don't forget Ryan Church. He was in Jerry's doghouse too, for I don't remember what anymore.
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: That's awesome. I saw the image before I read the article. At first blush, I thought you Photoshopped that image from scratch by combining other images and elements. Now I'm on the hunt for an original and complete copy of that magazine, which I never knew existed until now.
  21. Edgy DC wrote: Jerry's doghouse was a curious thing. I can't recall a manager who was so firm and complete in marginalizing a player once he decided he didn't have the goods. Jerry's doghouse was indeed odd. But Jerry had nothing on Dallas Green*. Nothing. Dallas was running a god damn kennel. *Yeah. I know. Bad timing on this one.
  22. Jay Hook hooked a magazine cover as an original Met and MBTN unearths the rarity. This is one of the coolest Met images ever posted.
  23. That bothered me too. Castillo should've gotten more playing time last season. Whatever Castillo's flaws were, the Mets didn't have anyone better.
  24. From the Department of Days of Future Passed: Kris Benson's first career CG win came against the Mercury Mets.
  25. Gwreck wrote: I guess it depends why you want the item. Is it cool to have because it's scarce? Or is it cool to have because it's a tangible reminder of precious memories? That's a fair point. But it wasn't my intent to disparage anybody who may have purchased a Shea seat. I only wanted to note that I knew that the original offering price for those seats wouldn't hold.
