  1. It's Tony Franciosa.

Maher shoulda said that he's a NL fan because he's a Met fan, not because he doesn't like the DH. It sounded odd to me. And that hat. I'm questioning his Metliness.* * (If I may question the Met bona fides of someone who plunked $20M into the team)
  3. Who the hell designed this plaque? Jeff Wilpon?
  4. Is Maher one of those faking it sports fans? He says that he's always been a National League fan because he doesn't like the DH. Is he suggesting that he's a Met fan, but that if the DH agreed with him, he would've switched allegiance to an AL team? Does he even know what he's talking about? I'll bet he doesn't know the difference between an infield fly and a shoo-fly pie.

If run scoring is half the game and run prevention comprises the other half, why would a pitcher deserve more than a five? And even then, he'd have to pitch a perfect game where he strikes everybody out and runs mid-pitch behind home plate to get there in time to catch his own strikes to get a five. To get a six, the pitcher would have to practically strike everybody out and then hit a home run or something.

Here's my personal list of the five worst Mets managers that I saw: Worst - Dallas Green (a moron and an asshole) Next - Willie Randolph ( a moron and a half) 3d - Jeff Torborg 4th - (tie) Art Howe; Jerry Manuel
  7. I just had this conversation with a friend of mine the other day. Collins has grown on me this season in a good way more than any other Met. Though he's no Johnson or Bobby V. And that talk about having to be proud to put on the uniform gave me some bad Dallas Green flashbacks. (Are there any other kind of Dallas Green flashbacks)?

It happens to everyone. Everybody sucks at the end of their career. If I knew that Bay would revert to pre-Met form, I'd want him back, naturally. But hoping for that to happen, I feel like Charlie Brown hoping that Lucy won't pull back the football right before I try and kick it.

Mets shut out the Phillies 3 in a row at Citi in either 2010 or 2009. I was at the third game of that series. I remember that, too.

Actually, my recollection was that it was because of his young daughter's serious medical condition. http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19991208&slug=3000117 http://www.seattlepi.com/news/article/Olerud-made-right-decision-moving-family-back-to-1082284.php By the time the daughter was born he was already in Seattle. Mainly his stated reason for the decision was just about being near the family. Oly preferred Seattle for sure, but left the door open, even if slightly. So why did the Mets offer him less money than Seattle had already offered him? They didn't even try.

As if the fucking problem was that Zeile's shot didn't travel another five feet. Hey! I'd like to know what would've fucking happened if the fastest fucking guy in the stadium ran like the fastest fucking guy in the stadium. Or if eff Wilpon wasn't too cheap to re-sign John Olerud. Boy, what great memories John Franco brings back. Maybe the Mets'll wear those embarrassing blacktops for the rest of this fucking season.

  16. With just one extra day of rest, Johan would face off against Stephen Strasburg on Thursday afternoon.
  17. Some week. The Mets unfurl their first Banner Day in over 15 years; go 5-2 in their last seven games - four of the five wins are complete game shutouts; see the first player in franchise history whose last name starts with "Q"; have a fringe starter who's on the team only because of several injuries to others crush a no doubt about it HR in his 2nd ML start ... a HR that would've cleared the wall in old cavernous Citi Field; a knuckleballer who was hanging on for his baseball life a few years ago continue his run of domination of historic magnitude and hurl himself into the forefront of the Cy Young award race; and then the no-hitter. Johan will no doubt be the second straight Met to win the NL Player of the Week Award. And for the first time this season, ESPN's playoff odds now calculates that the Mets are likelier to make the playoffs than the Philadelphia Phillies. <----------- Look who I am be.

  20. Good posting there, Grimm. I was up all night and the deeper into the night/morning, the more my appreciation for Johan's no-hitter grew. But the Mets lack of a no-hitter until now never bothered me either, and I never clamored for one the way I would for a Met to win MVP, for example. No-hitters are so freakish anyway, that I never considered the lack of one as some sort of black mark on Mets pitching. In fact, if there's any team, especially an expansion team, that shouldn't feel embarrassed about its pitching heritage, its gotta be the Mets.
  21. Are there any other sets of pitchers that hurled no-hitters after they were traded for each other, besides Johan and Humber?
