Mets got blown out twice, shut out once (and barely avoided a second one), went 22 innings without scoring at all, and basically got lucky once or they'd be on the wrong end of a 1-3 set. And this against a Braves team that was reeling and missing half their lineup. Just 13 runs scored in a four game series, seven of them in one inning. Mets came to bat 30 times, got blanked in 25 of them. No Max Fried, no Spencer Strider. The Braves have allowed the least runs in the majors. That's their game.
2. I'm surprised no one's blaming this on Mendoza (I'm not) for leaving Senga in to pitch the 6th after not having pitched in a major league game in almost a year. Mendoza gets blamed every single time a pitcher gives up a run, either for leaving him in the game, or for taking him out of the game.

Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: What's interesting or maybe worrisome about the Mets is that they've demonstrated they were about the worst team in the league and about the best team in the league with more or less the same core guys. They are capable of both. They will always be capable of both. That's baseball. Summed up by Jason Fry of Faith and Fear a lot better than I did: That's a lot of words to restate a baseball truism we don't like to acknowledge: No one knows anything. https://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/https://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/
4. Game action here: The FOX pregame show, including a rare find at the 1:44 mark, a Jason Isringhausen jersey with his full last name stitched onto the back instead of the shortened "Izzy" that appeared on his actual game worn jersey Reading material: https://www.mlb.com/news/featured/mercury-mets-inside-storyhttps://www.mlb.com/news/featured/mercury-mets-inside-story https://uni-watch.com/2011/07/27/the-worst-uniforms-in-mlb-history/https://uni-watch.com/2011/07/27/the-worst-uniforms-in-mlb-history/ It's all Mercury! And not to sound like a 20-20 hindsight guy, but I always thought that this team was capable of raking, even before the awesome ascendancy of Mark Vientos. This team had a lot of name-brand offense. Alonso, Lindor, Nimmo, Martinez, Alvarez and McNeil. Yes, McNeil, who was an excellent hitter for most of his career.
6. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=163341 time=1721615355 user_id=68] =batmagadanleadoff post_id=163340 time=1721615146 user_id=68] They lost two of three to the Marlins, so far. I guess the thing to do now is to forfeit the rest of their games and go home. And kill themselves. And donate the rest of their salaries to charities. And then go play some golf. And look forward to the 2025 schedule. I reconsidered. The 2025 Mets schedule is the loveliest schedule I ever did see. I'm loving it. The Mets are so bad now. Just horrible. Bad Mets. Bad.
7. I wasn't making fun of Steinbrenner.
8. Edgy MD wrote: We wear these blacks on Thursday, now? Maybe they'll wear Mercury Mets shirts on Saturday, 25th year anniversary and all.
9. Run prevention is as equally important as run scoring. The Braves lead the Majors in least runs allowed.
10. So the lesson, kids, is never to make fun of Georgia Steinbrenner because years after he died, Trump became President.
11. Benjamin Grimm wrote: That's quite an extrapolation. I simply happen to think that in baseball, a four game gap in the standings is probably the result of luck or randomness, more than anything else. And with a greatly expanded playoffs, the teams in question only have to catch one of the teams currently in playoff position. Each of those teams is just one good half week away from turning everything around. And likewise, the Mets current good fortunes are just as precarious.
12. =MFS62 post_id=163758 time=1721835930 user_id=60] My #2 is watching close-ups of owner Jerry Jones in the closing minutes of a Dallas Cowboys loss.
13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Maybe it's because the buy/sell decision is looming? Well then I suppose that all those teams will sort of forfeit the rest of the season and the teams currently in playoff positions will have it all to themselves.
14. Edgy MD wrote: Cubs, Reds, Giants and Nats all looking like they're slipping away at the worst time. The Reds, at least, probably have another run in them. Why is this 'the worst time"? And why can't those teams make up four or five games over the next 60 games, especially when they'll play each other or the teams ahead of them? The Mets made up a lot more ground in a lot less time.
15. Chad ochoseis wrote: I missed the Phillies/Astros and Phillies/Padres, but I was surprised to see that only 0.3% went with my Met/Astro pick of Tommie Agee. If you can recall that trade, you might as well go with Rich Chiles for NYM/HOU. I haven't played this game in many months but I'm certain that in the past, I went with Chiles when this particular cell came up. Also, Tommy Davis was one of my IG regular go-to staples. Davis played for so many teams.

19. Benjamin Grimm wrote: What if someone posted "Bananas are tasty" and you responded with "Who the fuck cares about bananas! Why are you wasting my time talking about bananas! What the fuck does that have to do with what's going on today!" Don't you see that that's a bit extreme? And would feel like an attack? That's just stylistic. It's shtick. I've been writing like that for years.
20. Benjamin Grimm wrote: It's really strange to react with such hostility to a simple post about next year's schedule. I could spend hours each day if I decided to push back against every thread that I wasn't interested in. Instead I decided to go with the radical option of simply not responding. I'm coming around to your view. Its starting to sink in just how thin skinned people are . You can't disagree with anyone. That'll make for a terrific board and a wonderful promotion of differing viewpoints and exchange of ideas. And the thing of it is that I didn't even disagree with anyone. Would banana lovers go all apeshit if I posted that I don't like bananas?

23. =MFS62 post_id=162954 time=1721351501 user_id=60] I hate to say it because he is my all time favorite Met, but Al Jackson pitched 990 innings as a Met. His career FWar was 17.7, but I didn't see how much of that was as a Met. Later
24. I'm not trying to sound obnoxious here. This is a very sincere post. Who gives a flying fuck? Who the fuck cares whether the Mets play a few games there instead of a few games here at that time of the day instead of at this time of day? Who gives a fuck whether it's a one city road trip or a four city road trip? Either way, the Mets have to take a plane to the next city, whether they're flying to another road city or whether they're flying back home. Why am I supposed to give a fuck about this? I'll watch the next Mets game just the same whether it's from Citi Field or from Anaheim or from London. You're not gonna get a neat and symmetrical schedule anymore. Not when every team now has to play a home and away against every other team. The Mets can't play division rivals enough because it's now imperative that the Mets play a home and away against the Twins and White Sox. Every fucking year.
