Gsellman being unable to hit didn't help. Tony Randazzo didn't help. Good games for Cabrera ad Big Jim Henderson, tho, so there's that. You were at the game tonight? How big was the crowd? And by that I mean head-count, not the fantasy island numbers the Mets put out. Because the crowd looked small on the TV and what with the Mets being in a pennant race and all, I was wondering about the crowd size and why it looked so small. Also, you sure do read a lot of rock and roll books.

There have been generic Mets, but not an actual player. Coupl'a Yankees made the cover, though. Jeter, A-Rod and Randy Johnson for sure.

The black Ted Williams. Fella by the name of Strawberry. That's the best scan of the cover Ive ever seen. Thanks, that goes in the Keith folder. Try this scan. No mailing labels, library stamps, creases or folds. And it's yuuuuuuge!

(I can barely 'see' Lasorda in that image. Koufax and Craig just look like very young images of themselves but I don't really see Tommy.) You mean the image quality is so-so or that you see it but to your eyes it doesn't resemble Lasorda?
  10. The answer is Ralph Garr, who, on May 17, 1971 tied the game in the bottom of the 10th with a HR off of Tom Seaver after Donn Clendenon gave the Mets a one-run lead with a HR of his own in the top of that frame. Garr then won the game two innings later with a solo HR off of Ron Taylor. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/ATL/ATL197105170.shtml I'll bet that Chief Knock-A-Homa was quite pleased at the end of that game.

  13. Let's make this one a quiz question. Eight times in MLB history, a player hit extra inning game tying and game winning HR's in the same game, including Curtis Granderson a few days ago. One player did it against the Mets. Who?
  14. Over the past three seasons, no Mets pitcher has won more games - 43 - than Bartolo Colon.
  15. What are the odds that the rest of the Mets starts go down precisely as projected in the top post? I'd set those odds at extremely unlikely, given the untestedness of most of the projected starters and Matz's present state of flux.

  21. Our interloper is Neil Chrisley, included in the top post on a Senators card. Chrisley never played for the Mets. Chrisley was purchased by the Mets together with Bob Butterball Botz from the Braves in 1961. Chrilsey, like Botz, also participated in the Mets first Spring Training and appeared in exhibition games. Chrisley got a Mets Topps card (below). Botz didn't. Thank you for playing.

I tell you though, while the Mets lineup isn't a murderers row, their depth is such that I don't see them giving anything much up at all with their Sunday squad. I was thinking the same thing when I saw today's lineup.
  23. Only seven 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers are still alive. Six of the seven were pitchers. The surviving seven are: Bob Borkowski Roger Craig Carl Erskine Sandy Koufax Tom Lasorda Don Newcombe Ed Roebuck Four of the surviving seven (Craig, Koufax, Lasorda and Roebuck) made their major league debuts in '55. Koufax, then 19, was still a teen-ager.
