  1. Anthony Young Pitched Like A Winner, Even When He Lost https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/anthony-young-pitched-like-a-winner-even-when-he-lost/

  3. I haven't checked Big Sexy's numbers recently, but the last time I looked, he was the worst pitcher in the NL among those with qualified innings pitched. Maybe Father Time finally caught up with Big Bart.
  4. I hate to jump on the winning bandwagon, but who's got better throwbacks than the Astros? How many teams had a better run of uniforms than the Colt/Stros did for their first 15 or so seasons? [fimg=666:2rryua5i]https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/4d/fe/86/4dfe8611aa1863c279a197af90d1f8f2.jpg[/fimg:2rryua5i] Isn't that jacket Durocher's wearing the perfect bridge between '60spsychedeila and '70s garishness?
  5. Make of this what you will, and I don't even know what to make of this, but Anthony Young was one of my favorite Mets from those Met squads he played on. RIP

  7. Frayed Knot wrote: You probably can't blame Dodger fans considering the way this series has gone, but they sound like school kids attending their first game as soon as any LAD hit ball gets into the air. The noise increases as if they assume each one is destined to be a HR, only to sound so disappointed when it turns out to be a pop out to deep SS. That's what it was like watching a baseball game from Shea's upper deck. Shea was the highest stadium in baseball and I thought sitting there made the game unwatchable. I'm no seat snob but that upper deck is and was the only section in any stadium I've ever been to that I would avoid at any cost and measure.

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I just read Verduccis Sports Illustrated article and it's extremely depressing, sort of confirms what I already sensed, and combined with what looks like it could be not only an awful season for the Mets but a dull pennant race on top of it am suddenly very worried for the future of obb Got a link?
  9. Edgy MD wrote: It'll probably be as dynamic a winter as .... Winter might arrive in a coupl'a weeks in Metdom. (There's a very good chance the team will be sellers -- with a lot of pieces to sell -- as the trade deadline nears).
  10. Bump. And I don't even need to change the thread title.
  11. Edgy MD wrote: No, man. This is where it gets good. Yer damn right! Jared Kushner's financial transactions are now under investigation by Mueller. Now there'll never ever be peace in the middle east.
  12. Goodbye Mets. Hello Rachel Maddow.
  13. Studies say that offense isn't up. but that HR's are. Batters are swinging harder and with more uppercut, hence more HR's, which is the plan. But OTOH, BB's, hits, doubles and triples are down. So ... more homers ... same run scoring.

  15. Insta-analysis from Jim Callis at MLB.com: Peterson is a polished lefty who took a step forward this season, striking out 20 in a game against Arizona State while ranking among the NCAA Division I leaders in strikeout-to-walk ratio. His low-90s fastball and slider are his two best pitches. He can also mix in a curveball and changeup. I can see him getting quickly to the big leagues as a mid-rotation starter. Great. Sounds like Jon Niese.
  16. Apropos of Jacob deGrom getting rocked tonight... The Mets Pitching Staff Went From Great To Garbage In The Blink Of An Eye https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-mets-pitching-staff-went-from-great-to-garbage-in-the-blink-of-an-eye/ The money quote: On a per-162-game basis, [the Mets are on pace] for the fifth-biggest year-to-year decline by any MLB pitching staff since 1901: Some of the teams ahead of the Mets on that list had their excuses: The 2004 Diamondbacks traded Curt Schilling to the Red Sox over the previous offseason, and the 1998 Marlins engaged in one of the most notorious talent dumps in baseball history. The Mets made no such trades.
  17. Staiger was hyped as a superstar fielder. Also, he was involved in a strange Mets game where he batted out of order for three or four at bats. There are so many screwy details to this story that I'm not gonna go into it. Also, I probably don't remember all of them screwy details off the top of my head anyways, without me having to look them up.

  19. Our lefty murderer, remarkably, has only 26 AB's against lefties this season. That's about a week's worth of games for an everyday player. Small sample size and all, obviously, yada yada yada, but still..... Flores is hitting a Ruthian .385 against lefties this season with three home runs. That's a home run rate of about 60 over a full season. Flores was also one of the NL's best hitters this past May. He won't win Player of the Month, but there weren't many who had a better month. He's been one of the Mets few bright spots in what has become a terribly disappointing season in almost every which way imaginable.

And he was too politically tarnished by then to run for a seat on the US Senate. But he was a General. And a man of privilege and powerful connections, who could have avoided the battle effortlessly.
