Let's Tomahawk Chop Atlanta's All-Star Game

Talks are beginning in baseball circles to strip Atlanta of this year's All-Star Game in light of Georgia's recent enactment of its Jim Crow voter suppression bill. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlbpa-open-to-discuss-pulling-all-star-game-out-of-georgia-after-voting-restrictions-passed-chief-says-162446933.htmlhttps://sports.yahoo.com/mlbpa-open-to-discuss-pulling-all-star-game-out-of-georgia-after-voting-restrictions-passed-chief-says-162446933.html If baseball means what it says and follows through, almost half of all MLB teams wouldn't merit hosting MLB's All-Star Game what with a slew of voter suppression bills expected to pass in the near future. Here are the states, in addition to Georgia, that are expected to pass Voter Suppression laws in the near future where Republicans control both the respective state legislatures and Governor's mansion: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Texas and Missouri. Republicans in both Kansas and Kentucky don't control their Governor's mansions but have veto-proof majorities in their state legislatures. Still, those states don't have MLB teams. That covers eleven teams, more than a third and almost half of all MLB teams: the Atlanta Braves, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Miami Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Whatevers, Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals.

What drives me nuts is when I hear or read about position players griping that pitchers shouldn't win the MVP because they already have their own award. That's like saying that Marcell Ozuna shouldn't be recognized as last season's NL HR leader because Ozuna had already won the 2020 NL RBI crown. Of course, the thing to do is to create an award with the prestige of the MVP award but for non-pitchers only. (Then watch the old school writers/voters fuck it up by voting for an MVP that won neither the Cy Young award nor the new award for non-pitchers only).

Starting pitchers who make almost all of their starts face 800, 900 batters a season. That's a coupl'a hundred more than the number of plate appearances everyday position players get in a season. So to answer the question -- Jake for MVP? Why not? He's the best pitcher in the NL and reports are that he's getting better, or at least not declining. But the reality is that a pitcher has to have a historical season to win the MVP. Like what Gooden did in '85. Or two years ago Jake. /sarcasm

I believe Schneck holds the Mets record for most years on the MLB roster without ever getting his own Topps baseball card.

Edgy MD wrote: After every three innings of extra-inning play, your roster can expand by one. If you have a non-roster player who happens to be with the team at the time, great. Otherwise, maybe you're able to get a minor leaguer rushed in from out of town. Maybe you activate a coach. Maybe you have a retired player that's still in good shape glad-handing it in the hospitality suites, and you rush to sign him. I think it'd be more fun if each team lost a player for every extra inning, instead of gaining players, plus letting teams play short-handed in extras, as well. So if you get to the 12th or 13th innings, teams might have just two outfielders. Or just one, perhaps. Maybe the strategy would be that when there aren't any baserunners, the fielding team plays without a catcher. I mean, whose gonna have spare players on hand to bring into a game? With your rule, might as well let teams pull new players from the stands. Maybe even a grandma, just for fun. Like when Keith Moon passed out in the middle of a Who concert and the band asked for drummers from the audience. "Is there a drummer in the house?"
