  1. Casey and Lindsey are standing at the Sadecki Spot, pre-cage. Butterball Field.
  2. Marlins winning pitcher Trevor Rogers, now in his second season, has appeared in just eight games lifetime, all starts. He has just two lifetime wins, both against Jacob deGrom. Rogers' only other win came here -- http://www.thecranepool.net/phpBB32/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=29655http://www.thecranepool.net/phpBB32/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=29655 on August 31, 2020, the day Tom Seaver died, in a game that might've broken the final 2020 hope of many Mets fans.
  3. Jake deGrom struck out a career-high 14 batters this game. Jake also gave up the first 0-2 count HR of his career. Also, it was only the second time in baseball history that a pitcher struck out 14 batters without giving up a walk and took the loss; James Shields lost to the O's in 2012 while fanning 15 batters without surrendering a walk.
  4. Jake hitting 100MPH on the radar gun in the 8th inning.
  5. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=60330 time=1618080186 user_id=68] And deGrom gets to hit, leading off the bottom of the 6th, with the Mets trailing 1-0. Who woulda thunk that?

  7. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=60323 time=1618077152 user_id=68] Interesting.. With the Mets trailing the Marlins 1-0 in the bottom of the third, ESPN's win probability gives the Mets a 63.8% chance of winning the game. Must be the deGrom factor.

Also, these ceremonies work out a lot better if you make a point to schedule some doubleheaders. When Jerry Koosman was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame, the crowd in the stands was embarrassingly sparse. That's Mets fWAR only, by the way. And 12.8 is supposed to impress me? That's two all-star seasons. That's not number retiring territory. Which is what what Gary Carter the Met was. Two really good seasons and then doneski. Like put a fork in him done. Hall of Fame? So Carter deserves to have his Met # retired over Keith because people think that Gary had a better career with the Expos than Keith had with the Cards? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
  10. I don't know why ... the statue took decades. https://www.mlb.com/news/tom-seaver-statue-dedication-on-july-22https://www.mlb.com/news/tom-seaver-statue-dedication-on-july-22 Nobody knows. And everybody knows.
  11. =stevejrogers post_id=59351 time=1617505785 user_id=57] According to the media guide, date of induction to be July 31st. August 28th is the date of the Koos36 retirement. Interestingly, in the Mets By The Numbers section, all 6 retired, and soon to be officially retired numbers are spotlighted, along with two others, Carter and Wright. Hmmmmmm...

When a batter swings at a ball that hits them, it's still a strike. That's one umps don't tend to miss unless the swing itself is unclear. So I was thinking that this is something Robo-ump would be unlikely to miss because, unless the ball hits the batter in such a way that it deflects and never reaches the strike zone, R.U. is going to call that a strike meaning the ump has no choice but to call it such.
  13. I just put on the game (I hate it when IGT thread starters don't list the time of the first pitch!) and caught Alonso's walk and Dom's final out of the inning at-bat. And I'm watching, and watching all the while, and wondering to myself -- what kind of new uniforms are the Marlins wearing? What are those? Black t-shirts? With no numbers or lettering or logos? Nothing but the Nike logo? WTF is that?

For most of my fandom, Kranepool was the only other Met to do that, until Wright retired as a Met-only. Swan was easy because I knew that he came close to pulling that off but for a tiny stretch with the Angels. Mazzilli I would've never gotten.

  17. Just work the old patch into a uni concept. Change the slogan. It's got the Mets/NY colors built in. [FIMG=333]https://www.picclickimg.com/d/l400/pict/373105255044_/1964-NEW-YORK-METS-Shea-Stadium-WORLDS-FAIR.jpg[/FIMG]
