Often, when I think of the powerhouse NL 70s teams, I try and imagine what Tom Seaver would have looked like in those We are Family Japanese mix 'n match Pirate uniforms of the late 70s. Seaver's '77 list of the teams he'd accept a trade to were comprised of the four perennial 70s NL contenders -- Pitt., Phila., Cin. and LA. And if Zvon were around, he'd have a pic of Seaver in those Mizunos within an hour of this post posting.

And lots of John Milner Content in the book Maybe I'll get that Parker book. I was a huge fan of his and was sorry to see him decline so rapidly for a few years in the early 80s.

The Pirates won as many WS as the Big Red Machine did. And (in the 70s), one more than the O's. How many do you think they were supposed to win? Only the A's won more WS than Pitt. in the 70s. I'm not even sure that the Pirates were better than the Phillies of the second half of the decade, although in the 70s, the Pirates were awesome for longer. I don't remember that Stennet card and I collected the 1973 set heavily. It's not a high card which I could see not getting, so maybe I didn't complete that series. Or forgot that I had it.
  4. deGrom is scheduled to throw a bullpen session today that will determine whether his next start is for real and in the majors or for rehab in the minors.
  5. If everthing goes well, deGrom might start as early as this Friday. Or the Mets might give deGrom a rehab start in the minors before his next major league start.
  6. [bIGPURPLE]'zeika![/bIGPURPLE] Don Draper sez NO! First of all, if you don't know what it means, then you don't know whether I'm being mean to you, which I'm not. Second of all, "cant go a week" is the height of hypocrisy. Like you didn't spend practically a decade trying to torture me. But that didn't happen just because you say it didn't.

  9. =Ceetar post_id=64087 time=1620848489 user_id=102] Luis Rojas is going to cite something about Alonso's improved defense, and repetitions or something, and mostly play Alonso at first, I'd wager on this.
  10. The Nineteenth New Met in 1967 was Nick Willhite, but not until June 11. This means we have almost a month to make this the Fastest New Metliest Year since 1962. Don't you have to wait until the end of the season to determine just how much of a "fastest Metliest" season 2021 is? Another new Met this year debuting before June 11 only establishes that 2021 is the fastest year to 19 new Mets*. But what about fastest to 20 new Mets*? Or 21*? Or fastest to 11*? * Not including 1962, obviously.

  13. Edgy MD wrote: CDC: You don't need masks outdoors if you've been vaccinated. Get out there! New York Yankees: Seven of our vaccinated players and personnel have just tested positive. Did their vaccines "kick in" yet? Or were they vaccinated like three days ago or something like that? Anyways, even if the vaccines did kick in, they're not infallible, and that's before even accounting for whether or not there are variants out there that can evade the vaccine's antibodies. But seven players seems like a high number from such a small sample (Yankees).

Willets Point wrote: Lazy research turned this up: https://baltimorefishbowl.com/stories/joan-jett-might-orioles-biggest-fan/https://baltimorefishbowl.com/stories/joan-jett-might-orioles-biggest-fan/ We used to live in Maryland and my dad took us to see the Baltimore Orioles several times. But my first game was Jim Palmer against Catfish Hunter of the Oakland A's. Jim Palmer threw a no-hitter. So how can you not be an Orioles freak after seeing that for the first game? It was the team with Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson and the 4 20-game winners. It was quite a learning experience at the time. There's being a big fan, and then there's being a full-dress-fantasy-camp big fan. Apparently, she also did the anthem at Cal's record-tying game, at his request. Palmer's no-hitter was in 1969. The O's had four 20-game winners two years later, in 1971. Same franchise. Different teams.
