  1. =Gwreck post_id=205498 time=1758766295 user_id=56] =Centerfield post_id=205497 time=1758766015 user_id=65] So angry. Jonah Tong should have collected all of his Minor League awards. Waved from the dugout at the Citi crowd. Felt good about his season. Instead he has this. Hopefully he realizes he needs to develop his secondary pitches and comes back stronger.

  3. This team has played horrible baseball. I don't see how this manager can come back.
  4. We also learned that Vientos is a DH.
  5. Wait. If Holmes was available. Why did we allow lovelady to let the Cubs extend the lead?
  6. If we get nothing else out of this putrid season at least it looks like Francisco Alvarez has finally arrived.
  7. I see the problem. I just misnumbered. Tigers have been reinstated!
  8. Tonight is going to be a slow march toward death isn't it? Well last night was fun.
  9. Wait. I did something wrong. There's 30 teams right? I must have listed a team twice.
  10. Robot umps now.
  11. Tong wasn't ready yet. Hopefully starts the year at AAA next year and gets right.
  12. If we have to do realignment, my proposal. NL East 1. Mets 2. Phillies 3. Nationals 4. Pirates 5. Marlins 6. Braves 7. Reds 8. Cubs NL West 1. Giants 2. Dodgers 3. Arizona 4. Colorado 5. St Louis 6. Milwaukee 7. Padres AL East 1. Yankees 2. Red Sox 3. Orioles 4. Tampa 5. Blue Jays 6. Tigers 7. Guardians 8. White Sox AL West 1. Mariners 2. Athletics 3. Angels 4. Twins 5. Rangers 6. Astros 7. Royals Four Division winners. 8 Wild cards. Wild Cards play a three game series against your own division. NLDS/ALDS. Division winner takes on the WC from within your division. LCS and World Series continues as is. All WC and DS series are played within your own time zone. There are no cross-country flights until the LCS.
  13. Edgy MD wrote: They probably will not ask two innings of him, but I hope they will not write him off as unavailable. The only guys they did not use last evening were Ryan Helsley and Dickie Lovelady. I imagine somebody else gets added before game time. Bad News: Ryan Helsley may be our closer tonight.
  14. Paul Skenes vs. Hunter Greene. A matchup of two aces. Skenes was roughed up in his last outing against the Cubs. 3 ER in 3.2 IP. Had been pretty solid before that. Pitched 6 scoreless in his last start against the Reds in August. Hunter Greene was roughed up in Sacramento two starts ago (2.1 IP, 5ER). But has otherwise been lights out in September. 2 ER in 22.1 IP. Coin flip as far as pitching, but the Reds are at home, and the Pirates are last in runs scored in all of baseball. (that one weekend against the Mets notwithstanding)
  15. I was kinda wondering about the Hefner philosophy on pitching specifically, rather than the small market/big market decisions. I get the feeling Hefner stresses two things: 1. Throwing your most effective pitches, and abandoning or reducing your usage of your lesser effective pitches. 2. Starting your pitches in the zone to entice hitters to chase. I don't actually know if this is his philosophy, but this is what I deduce from the results on the field. Throwing your most effective pitches sounds like a good philosophy. But it makes you predictable, and maybe that pitch mix is what made the effective pitches effective in the first place. As for chasing, I feel like Peterson's words were telling yesterday. "I threw some good pitches, they didn't chase". I think the book is out on Mets pitchers. Lay off the borderline pitches early, and they will fall behind. It's happened to Peterson, Senga, and was happening to Canning before he got hurt. It's happened to a lesser extent, to Holmes. And that's why his pitch counts run high. I think Holmes has been saved by having actually better stuff that he can throw in the strikezone to get outs.
  16. In a role reversal, the Mets start the promising rookie pitcher, while the Cubs start a veteran lefty who started out great but has been fading of late. Matthew Boyd. 13-8, with a 3.20 ERA, 1.11 WHIP. Bad News: Has been lights out at home. 11-1, 2.45 ERA, 0.925 WHIP. Good News: He hasn't been as effective in the second half. 4.74 ERA, 1.245 WHIP. His three starts in September are even worse. 6.00 ERA, 1.533 WHIP. He's at 174.1 IP, after pitching only 21 innings in 2024, and 71 innings in 2023. So he, like Peterson, may have hit the wall. Despite the role reversal, the pitching matchup isn't lopsided like last night. Boyd, though fading, hasn't been nearly as bad as Peterson. And Tong, while promising, hasn't had nearly the success as Horton.
  17. Can you be more specific? I have my own thoughts about the Hefner philosophy. But curious to hear yours.
  18. Small victories? That was huge!
  19. Agree. Do we have any more arms at AAA?
  20. Huge. Wow.
  21. Diaz for 6. Deep breaths boys.
  22. I love our catcher.
  23. Absolutely no fundamentals on this team.
  24. These fucking walks.
  25. Would have just let Soto finish the inning. Dangerous to bring in Rogers with runners on.
