This year, I feel like most of the cards have been played. It's also the approach that's maddening. They seem to be so philosophically adrift. The approach is the big thing. I get that we have had injuries, but the personnel that is here is not terrible. We should be getting much, much better results. Cespedes is a star player. Neil Walker is good. Loney has been hitting well, and Granderson, d'Arnaud, Cabrera and Flores are all serviceable. It's inexcusable that they should be near last place in runs scored. I don't know who exactly is responsible for this, but whoever it is should be shown the door (I don't know exactly that it's Kevin Long, though he seems the likely culprit.) We should be bunting against the shift, taking balls the other way, we should absolutely, positively NOT be bunting when it's 1st and 3rd with 1 out. The Mets are not getting what they should be from the guys that are here, and that is an organizational failure. As to aces up their sleeves, obviously Duda coming back would help. He adds an .800 OPS to the lineup. I think the Mets will eventually wake up and call up Dilson. He represents upside and hopefully can give us a mid .700's OPS. This will be an upgrade over Wilmer. Wilmer is at .672 for the season. He's .673 for his career and he's approaching 1000 AB's. He is what he is. In the OF, I think Conforto will straighten out and come back. I have high hopes that he can anchor the middle of this lineup. A good Conforto, who gets on base and uses all fields would make a huge difference. As for RF, I think they will mix and match with Granderson/Nimmo/Lagares. This is obviously not enough production from such a key offensive position. As for options from outside the organization, I guess they have a shot at the Cuban guy, but we don't know what he'll give us. If Toronto falls out of it, Bautista may be available at the deadline, though the price for him would be huge, you'd have to imagine. Something has to give. I wish we had a better idea of the recovery time for bone spur and thumb ligament surgery.

  3. Ok. Night folks. Tomorrow we start a fund to send Ben Grimm to Peru. Alternatively, we could just brainstorm fun things to talk about other than baseball.
  4. Resolve fading. Will give it one more inning. If they score I stay up. If not, bed.
  5. 3-0. Might as well be 30-0.
  6. Seems like forever since I had fun watching a Mets game.
  7. health is always a huge factor in pennant races.
  8. You just wait until my tell-all comes out about the CPF. Edgy MD: Eats everyone's food out of the fridge. Can't even leave ketchup packets around. Frayed Knot: Constantly playing Lite FM at loud volumes. Like how much Jefferson Starship can one man listen to? LWFS: I swear he empties an entire bottle of Bartolo Cologne on his head every day. Can smell him 2 offices down.
  9. I declare tonight a BIG GAME. But for real, show some fucking life Mets. Try not to suck.
  10. Bone spurs for Noah as well. Just fucking punt.
  11. It's starting to feel like 1987. Who wants to grow a mullet with me?
  12. Centerfield wrote: Matz. Has to be at least kinda hurt if you don't throw your slider all game right? Mets downplaying. Mets downplaying less than they were before.
  13. And now you'll see the Mets go quietly the rest of the night. No fight on this team. No toughness.
  14. Edgy MD wrote: What a smoking car fire this is. I never go for the logic of "You've got to save your pitching with no days off coming up." You have extra pitching in the minors if you need it tomorrow. I mean, if eight relievers isn't enough, what is? Yup. That's why God made Monteros and Gsellmans. Manager is responsible for this one. And Loney too. Travis, well, he's trying.
  15. Loney has cost them 4 runs tonight with the glove.
  16. This team looks like shit again. Bad fundamentals. Someone needs to be held responsible.
  17. Edgy MD wrote: I'm not sure me and Flores agree on what constitutes a safety squeeze. No way he should have been bunting there.
  18. Can't start Travis when Syndegaard pitches. Terry Collins the only one in New York that does not realize this.
  19. Now you know why all the TSA agents were snickering at you.
  20. soupcan wrote: I'm thankful for two things: -The Mets won. -I don't have to listen to Verducci any longer. Not necessarily in that order. This. My god. Insufferable.
  21. Oh, and the lead is down to two. How fast things can turn around. Suddenly the Mets are surging and the Nats are plummeting.
  22. Alejandro, Skipper wants to see you in his office.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Wait a minute, the batter was only out by six strides at 1st so the Braves may want to have the play reviewed. Did the guy in the tunnel signal for it or are they saving it?
  24. Kelly Johnson > Eric Campbell.
