  1. Lol. Still tied. If it's still tied, then it goes to the House of Representatives to select a winner right?
  2. I didn't realize Wright's injury came in June. For some reason, I thought he never made it out of May. The poor guy.
  3. Do Cubans that have defected play for Cuba in the WBC? I wonder if we will have a Yoenis WBC controversy in the spring. Assuming Yoenis comes back of course. If any of our starting pitchers even thinks about participating in the WBC I will protest outside of Tradition Field.
  4. 1981 Gary Carter C
  5. I am really curious to see this guy's trade value. The guy with the .815 OPS and 33 HR's has a lot of value. The guy who has a .654 OPS in a hitter's park, and struggles to keep his average in the low 200's won't bring back dick.
  6. The lineup looks better today than it did this time yesterday. And will look much better if Cespedes returns, but I'm not sure I feel that great about it yet. Keep getting this feeling that good Conforto versus bad Conforto might make or break our season. And I know it's usually not black and white, but with him, it's kinda been feast or famine.
  7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Seaver has a much better track record, however. And he was the leader of a legendary Mets team, the first legendary Mets team. Hall of Famer, World Champion. These things go a long way. I forgive a lot of things as it pertains to the '86 Mets. Anyway, I get why he is revered. Not saying it's wrong. It's just that there isn't the personal connection for me, so I kinda think he's an ass.
  8. Oh, and at that same game, we also rode the elevator with Mr. Met. So awesome day anyway.
  9. It's not tough to read between the lines to see that Tom and Nancy are bitter at the Mets and were actively rooting for San Francisco. Perhaps it's the statue thing (legitimate gripe). Perhaps it's that he wasn't included on the SNY team when it launched (sour grapes in my book). But without question, the Seavers are bitter. He doesn't remember rooting for the Giants? I'll tell you. I may not remember a particular Mets-Brewers game in 2011, but I can say unequivocally, that I was rooting for the Mets. But whatever. He can root for whoever he wants. The Mets were his employers. He has no obligation to be a fan. I know for most here, the name Seaver is revered. But for me, I never witnessed it. I have faint memories of an aging Seaver in '83, and an unsuccessful comeback in '87. My direct memories are of an unlikeable, annoying announcer who displayed open contempt for modern day players. He is also an ass. My son and I have ridden in elevators with two baseball players in our lifetimes. One of them was Derek Jeter, at home, in his own time, when he had no obligation to say anything to anyone. The other was Tom Seaver, at Shea Stadium, during a game. Jeter could not have been more gracious, welcoming and friendly, and seeming a really down to earth guy. Seaver was the exact opposite. Stone-faced, staring straight ahead, making it evident with his body language that he wanted no part of talking to the little boy looking up at him. Fuck the Seavers, I say.
  10. Jay Bruce is a tough sell no? On the one hand, he hit 33 HR's this past year and had an OPS of .815. So despite what he did with the Mets, you're kind of selling high. So we thought were were seeing a slumping Jay Bruce, and that over time he couldn't be that bad. But in 2014, his performance for the year was actually worse than he put up during his time in NY. .654 OPS, .217 BA. And this is while playing in Cincy. Very flawed and inconsistent player. I don't know what you do with him.
  11. And then in July we get Kelly Johnson back right?
  12. I think this year we should throw at Utley's head. And not a baseball. A hand grenade.
  13. Ceetar wrote: I need a moment to compose myself again. Just got all ragey about the Thor ejection. So fucked up. I'm angry again too.
  14. Not on that list is Anthony Kay, the supplemental pick the Mets got for letting Murphy walk. I have been hoping that someday he wins a Cy Young so we call be like man, it's a good thing Murphy left even though he killed is in 2016, since we got Anthony Kay and Murphy suddenly lost it and hit .214 from 2017 onwards. Kay is a LHP from UConn, who had elbow concerns even before he was drafted. Just checked on him and found out he did, in fact, have Tommy John surgery. Out all of 2017. Maybe he just felt like he needed to get it out of the way.
  15. Ironic that we were so happy in August of 2015 to be able to hold on to Matz and give up Fullmer. Now, I think most here would have it the other way around. Here's to hoping Matz wins the Cy Young next year.
  16. I know Ellis Burks had a great year, but come on man, he played in Colorado. Gilkey put up those numbers at Shea Stadium. Robbed.
  17. Saw a tidbit in this article: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/neil-walker-accepts-mets-qualifying-offer-back-one-year-deal-article-1.2873050 It says the Mets feel comfortable slotting him in at first and third as well as second. I wonder when the Mets' philosophy on this changed. Part of the reason I was so frustrated last season was having to sit through the Eric Campbell/Ty Kelly at-bats while Dilson sat at AAA. Aggravating. In any event, I think I am good on the Walker deal. I didn't think Murphy's success could be sustained and was proven wrong. Maybe right-handed Walker is this year's Murphy. I think if Neil had left, I might have tried to use that money to pursue a top shelf reliever like Jansen. But I can't see Sandy Alderson giving a multi-year deal to a relief pitcher, and more likely would have spread this around on a pu-pu platter of hit or miss bullpen/bench guys. So if that's the case, I'd rather try Walker. We get our power-hitting second baseman back on a short term commitment. I'm cool with that.
  18. I think I lost half my points. System is rigged!
  19. 2000 Jeff Kent, 2B
  20. I'm trying to think of the ramifications of this. Probably doesn't affect the Cespedes, money, but if he walks probably makes someone like Fowler less likely. I think we can kiss goodbye any thought of an elite closer.
  21. Accepted per Rubin on Twitter. Shocked. I wonder if this means his back is fucked. Or wait, if his back were fucked, then he'd look for the multi-year deal now. I don't know. Anyway, really surprised he thought there was no market for him.
  22. 8 minutes! It's crazy that I feel this much anticipation when I'm not sure which way I want it to go.
  23. He had said a few days ago that he was going to wait until the very end. Sure. But like the last 59 minutes very end? Does he think a multi-year deal will come in before 5? What if he loses service! What if the Mets put him on hold? I picture a desperate Neil Walker around 4:53... "Your call is very important to us. To continue in English, press 1..." Meanwhile, Hellickson accepts.
  24. I wonder if going down to the wire makes it likely or less likely. The big guys have already declined.
  25. Her son's half birthday.
