  1. And yes. Familia here makes total sense.
  2. Also, why is Lugo in this game? Use whatever scrub is on the LV shuttle. Let him throw 100 pitches then send him back down.
  3. Literally every first batter for Lugo.
  4. I think it’s safe to say the Mets rotation is in serious trouble.

Isn't that what we heard in ST? I know. Mickey hasn't been nearly as out-of-the-box as he indicated he would be. Yes. Formulaic and predictable. In that Washington game, Familia needed to come in and put out the fire much earlier in that 8th inning. If he does that, then you coast to the win in the 9th. That he went to Lugo and Blevins and then Ramos and finally Familia smells an awful lot like a manager reserving their "closer" for the save situation. And bringing in Blevins to face a guy who murders him because of lefty-lefty. Just idiotic.
  6. I'm ready for Peter Alonso. Guy is mashing.
  7. My kingdom for Rene Rivera.
  8. Our catchers hitting .100 and throwing the ball away is just killing me.
  9. Defense aside, that's 3 blown saves in the last 10 days for Familia. He's blown 3 of his last 5 chances. Every closer goes through a slump, but this isn't going to cut it.

Otherwise you have to rely on bullpen magic and late-inning heroics, which are nice when they happen, but are not a sustainable game plan. Yup. How quickly the optimism surrounding this year's starting pitching morphed into the familiar exasperation that surrounded last year's. And the thing is, everyone is healthy. Well, at least when Vargas gets back they will be. We really needed to get a good, reliable #3.

  12. "Big, big save opportunity here." --Armando Benitez
  13. For those of us at work, can anyone explain how DeJong doubled to SS?

  15. You know that if Montero's elbow hadn't fallen off he'd be starting by now.

  17. Made necessary by the failures of the Three Sucketeers. Vargas will help some. But he's a 35 year old who pitched to a mid 4's ERA last year. So he'll probably only be back end help. Lugo and Gsellman are always options, but you hate to mess with that bullpen. How did Corey Oswalt look? Didn't watch the game, but it looked like he gave up only that 1 HR last night. Chris Flexen has a 3.79 ERA in LV. Here's an idea. Let's give Paul Sewald his first ever professional start. I'd be willing to see if he could Dillon Gee it for a little while. You figure there won't be any pitching help on the trade market for months.
  18. A home grown Hall of Famer. Wins multiple championships and spends the majority of his career with the Mets. Goes in to the Hall undisputed as a Met. Would help if he wasn't a dick.

Wheeler has never been good, Matz has been wildly inconsistent, and Harvey, well, you know. Of the three I thought Matz had the best chance to turn it around, seeing as how they addressed the nerve thing. Incredibly disappointing. Illustrates how badly we needed to sign a top line starter this winter.
  20. Jake Arrieta. 3-0. 1.82 ERA. 0.932 WHIP. 32 years old. The Phillies have him on a 3 year deal at $25 per. Had the Mets signed him instead of Vargas, their payroll would be about $173 million. 7th in baseball, $11 million behind the Nationals.
  21. Matt Harvey is a dickhead. JCL was right from the beginning. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt as long as I could, but seriously, fuck that guy. It won’t happen but I would be fine with releasing him now.
