  1. I'm in. Live draft is the only way to go. H2H would be fun, but whatever the commish wants is fine with me. How much would it cost us to upgrade to a paid league? What would be the advantages?
  2. Didn't Estalella get cut by the phillies? Great -- reject Phillies.
  3. The Mets couldn't bring him back for $2 million to split time at Catcher? Why the F not??
  4. What does it say about the group that "not a question" gets 3 votes??
  5. Don't believe everything you read in the Voice. Or on the Voice blog. For my money (tickets) I don't care who'se paying. Let's just have a better park!
  6. Can't figure out how to format this. Sorry. Sanchez, although briefly becoming the Dodger's best option for closer (after Gagne was injured and Brazoban forgot how to throw strikes), his minor league numbers are not particularly impressive. Of course, you need a middle man who can come in and get you a few outs in the 6th or 7th, and maybe this guy can, but his numbers are not impressive. Seems like we should have been able to get more for Seo.
  7. With a lefty as your closer, having that lefty set-up guy becomes a luxury that you can use in the 7th or even 6th inning. If you get to a key situation in the 8th, you can bring in Billy the Kid. I like Heilman as the set up guy, who can stay in and get a save once in a while. Don't mess with him and put him back in the rotation. He was doing fine in the pen. Like Shades, and would rather see kids (Ring, Strayhorn) get a shot at those middle innings jobs rather than overpaying for some "veteran" who wasn't good enough to keep his job somewhere else. HATE Taverez. Like Bradford, even against lefty hitters in a 6th or 7th inning slot. Lots of grounders. Love the idea of talking about the '06 season already . . .
  8. Love the story. Details seem exaggerated, but Mitchell being angry enough to decapitate the cat with a kitchen knife? I buy that. (Robie Cano was the YANKEES' rookie of the year -- a small detail)
  9. What type of media player do i need to see this video?
  10. Very nice. I wasn't able to participate live, but just reading the thread is very nice. Great of Steve to stay up late with us! My father had a similar experience with Keith Jackson. Top notch guy. Next -- can we get Bobby V to come visit???
  11. Sure you don't want a pair of game worn Mo Vaughn pants, Scarlet??? Holidays are coming.
  12. I voted for roto, but i've never been in an H2H baseball pool. It might be fun. So what the heck. But, whatever the majority wants
  13. as much fun as an auction would be, it would require a whole day and we'd have to all get together for it. No possible way.
  14. I understand the free agent acquisition argument. It's a free league, so what the heck. Can we have some kind of waiver system so that if more than one owner claims the same player on the same day then there is a priority? Otherwise, having a FAB solves some of that problem by forcing bids on a player, and when you use up your budget, you're done. But I'll go with whatever the commish wants
  15. I favor weekly transactions. I just don't have the time to make daily roster moves. Daily moves allows an owner who has the time to manipulate the lineup daily to gain a real advantage. Once a week is plenty. I also favor larger rosters, so the draft is deeper, and rewards owners who do their homework and know the sleeper picks and minor leaguers who will come up during the season. Gives more flexibility to make changes, and with weekly moves, that's important.
  16. I'll be flexible here, but my preference would be to either use a 5x5 "standard" roto format (.avg, HR, RBI, SB, R for hitters, and ERA, WHIP, WINS, S, Ks for pitchers) or, even better, use a more comprehensive set of stats. One league I've been in uses: OBP Runs Doubles + Triples HR RBI Net Steals Errors and Net Wins ERA WHIP Ks Saves Would be nice if bases on balls for hitters counted for someting (e.g., use OBP, not .AVG) and if doubles and triples counted. Plus caught-stealing was a negative, and losses hurt a pitcher. But, whatever the commish wants to use, I'll play by
  17. Even if the pot is $5 per head, there is some value in having a prize at the end. If not that - we could chip in for a perpetual trophy, to be awarded to the winner.
  18. position eligibility should be based on 2006 games played, not 2005. 20 games played in 2006 should be sufficient to qualify for a position. For initial placement, can use "good faith" rule or 50 games played last year. I'd go for no free agent acquisitions at all, or a limited FAB. We can draft a 40-man roster and make trades if we have injuries. Or perhaps allow free agent draft half way through the year. Having to keep up daily with free agent availability is a pain.
  19. I worry more about the stat categories than the player positions. My preference is to make it as "realistic" as possible -- require 1 player for each defensive position, maybe 4 OF, and add 2 DH's (any player). Total of 10 or 11 hitters should be fine for each team. I like the idea for pitchers of requiring 5 starters, but depending on how the web site tracks pitchers, could make a difference. Having a minimum innings pitched number for the season is a default -- if you have a 1000 innings pitched requirement and you have a max. of 7 or 8 active pitchers, then you'll need to have 4-5 starters active most of the time or you'll fall short of your innings requirement.
  20. I'm in, as long as I don't have to be commish. I've been in fantasy leagues for the last 18 years or so, and I've seen lots of variations, but never seen a league ban players from particular teams. Would be interesting, especially if (a) your guy gets traded to the Yankees, or ( if the Yankees trade away a stud during the season and he becomes a free agent. Seems like it would be hard to deal with, but if I'm not in charge, I'm all for it.
  21. No comment
  22. I can vouch for Scarlet's big moment. Classic. Steve was sitting back-to-back with her all night. Only a matter of time. Lots of fun. Rusty was really gracious, as was Al. Tim McGraw was also a great host, signing balls and cowboy hats and taking pictures with everyone. Gotta love it.
  23. Cameron's stats last year offensively were about the same as Nady's, in about the same number of at bats. Nady was a highly tauted prospect a few years ago, but has never gotten the chance to play as a regular. Maybe because he was not as good as his hype. I think the Mets could have gotten more for Cameron, but on the other hand he's damanged goods after last season, so perhaps the market was small. If we're not paying any of Cameron's salary, then it's probably a good deal.
  24. Yea, like I said -- the fighting sea turtles
  25. What I want to know is why the U. of Maryland (nickname - the fighting turtles) has a newspaper called the "diamondbacks.com" Curious. Hey -- if you pin up Yankee booster crap on the outside of your dorm room door, it's going to attract (at least) graffiti. Don't bitch. Keep the stuff in your room if you want it to stay pristine. And if you want to watch the game at the local bar without being hassled -- don't wear your Yankee uniform. geez!~
