  1. There will be football at CitiField apparently. The New York Sentinels of the UFL will play one of their three home games (the other two are at Giants Stadium and UConn) there on November 4. No word on whether Shake Shack will be opened for the festivities.
  2. ESPN gets heavy rotation during college hoops season for me. And I still like Baseball Tonight over the MLB network shows.
  3. I found this link: http://theproducers.weei.com/sports/boston/dennis-and-callahan/will-people-ever-learn/ Is it not in good taste to question Steve's, uh, taste?
  4. 4. Dee Gordon, ss, Dodgers (Tom) Still learning the game, but he hit .301 and led Midwest League with 73 steals. That expression always gets me, and lots of writers/analysts use it. Shouldn't one expect that a professional in his field doesn't need to learn the game? And furthermore, if the point of the article is to tell us about these second generation ballplayers, wouldn't the game have passed down from dear old dad? I guess we'll find out if Dee has learned from his father. So if we see Dee choking against the Red Sox in the postseason, or spends time on the DL every year, we'll know his dad has been influencing him.
  5. Angels could really use one of those 4 singles, 2 BB, 3 SB, 5-run innings. We're ready when you are, Halos.
  6. And Weaver gets out of the inning unscathed!
  7. Hunter DP ends bottom first. Now Yanks have 2 on nobody out in the second, and Weaver needs outs badly.
  8. And, since Monday's game in Anaheim is an afternoon game, they won't want to play Sunday night in New York.
  9. Gentry also drove in 2 runs early. Ryan entered the game with a 4-run lead, granted the bases were loaded. Agee 4.25 Gentry 3.5 Ryan 1.25 Grote .5 Kranepool .5
  10. On Grote's bloop double, Buford was so deep he was playing basically by the warning track. No LF would ever play that deep these days, and the ball probably would have been caught.
  11. Koosman 5.25 Clendenon 1 Weis 1.25 Taylor .75 Charles .5 Grote .5
  12. Seaver .5 Weis 1 Clendenon .75 Cardwell 1 Taylor 1
  13. Weis, in 5 games (4 starts): 5-11 (.455); 3 walks (.533 OBP; 1.290 OPS); , 2B, HR, 3 RBI (one was a game-winner, one a game-5-tieing) Clendenon in 4 games: 5-14 (.357); 2 walks (.438 OBP; 1.509 OPS); 3 HR, 4 RBI, 2B, 4 runs scored); his HRs accounted for Mets first runs in games 2, 4, and 5. Koosman in 2 games: 2-0; 17 2/3 IP; 7 hits, 4 runs all earned, 4 walks, 9 Ks; 2.04 ERA, .623 WHIP. Looks like it should have been Kooz.
  14. This game proves once again how the MLB replay rule is a joke. OK, review for home runs that are questionable, fine. But how many times do we have to see blown calls that would obviously be overturned? This play, the play in the WS last year when one of the Rays (Baldelli?) was called out at 3rd on a dreadful call, Matt Holliday sliding and never touching home, Inge hit by the pitch. These all happened in the last three seasons. I don't give a %$*& if the umps don't like it...I don't like having to look at dopes like CB Bucknor and Angel Hernandez make a joke of my favorite sport. Oh, and while I'm here: As Buck Showalter just pointed out, the ball not only hit fair, it hit the left fielder's glove. So for both reasons it was a fair ball. And Carlos Gomez: happy trails my friend. So glad you no longer wear my team's uniform.
  15. I got 22 before giving up. The three I missed were all from different eras. Nice job, Elster.
  16. Not much to add here, but I'd like my kids to grow up with Gary, Keith and Ron much like I did with Lindsey, Bob, and Ralph.
  17. How bad must Luis Alicea have been at his job to get canned while these other guys kept theirs?
  18. Ron Gardenhire certainly belongs in "Manager of the Decade" conversations.
  19. Orlando Cabrera ("Winning player"--Mainstream Media) singles in the go-ahead run after a Span single and two wild pitches. Still batting, top 10th.
  20. Former Wookie Jon Rauch now pitching for the Twins.
  21. They go bottom 9 in Motown tied at 1. Twinkies squander a leadoff double by Casilla in the 9th, and bunt into a double play to end the inning (thinking it must have been a failed squeeze).
  22. Any reason why HoJo should not be in trouble?
  23. Shouldn't Murphy have been hazed last year?
  24. Tuned in to see Rusty go over the fence to grab a foul ball from Pops.
