  1. No argument from me. Dickey is pitching at a level where you have to try to maximize the innings you can get from him.
  2. The problem with nearly all these grounders was not the actual turning two part, but fielding the ball cleanly in the first place. That's not really something a major-league instructor should need to teach.
  3. Honestly, I'm surprised anybody thought he was worth a claim. The Jays must be very short on AAA depth.
  4. Anybody hear of this guy before today? Here are his stats for the year: http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=468517 We'll see him on Friday.
  5. I don't mind the rain when we're winning. Something tells me this game is over.
  6. It's easy to forget that Olerud had some obscenely good seasons. In 1993 with the Jays, he had an OPS+ of 186.

  8. I need to avoid watching Met games with my highly cynical father. One guy gets on and he says, "We can't win this." Acosta's first pitch to Kearns was a nice strike on a curveball. Had he thrown that pitch to Hanley, he'd have already been in the dugout, and we'd be complimenting him for minimizing the damage and keeping the team in the game.
  9. Francisco has a history of running hot and cold, which presumably Alderson understood when he signed him. I'm not necessarily enamored of the guy, but he'll have his good stretches too, and 13 innings is hardly sufficient to pass final judgment.
  10. Looks like they had plenty of space to add more seats.
  11. The Mets might not have that many home runs with two outs, but I think we've done well enough as a whole in those situations.

  13. Best Mets win of the year so far.
  14. Awesome. I get the feeling that Valdespin won't see another low inside fastball any time soon. He totally crushed that one.
  15. The sooner we see him, the better. He doesn't even have to be that good to be a vast upgrade.
  16. Rube will be evaluated today. The chances are good he will be put on the DL, in which case Valdespin can be recalled. If he doesn't need to be put on the DL, which would be good news in the long term, I guess we see Quintanilla. Cedeno was supposed to start a rehab assignment today. The plan was to activate him on Friday, but I suppose circumstances may alter that plan.

  18. "It goes way back. Paul Revere was the first sign-stealer." Best Ralph-ism ever?
  19. He shouldn't be off the table, but it seemed like we'd have had to sell very low on him in the offseason and I don't know if teams' attitudes on Murphy have really changed in a month. I personally think he's worth way more than a stopgap, and wouldn't settle for less than a legit #3 starter I'd have under control for as long as Murphy. If an offer like that doesn't materialize, don't panic and do something you'll regret in a month.
  20. The glass is half full: We're 2-2 in that stretch in spite of it.
  21. They still have Rhiner Cruz, who they took from us in the Rule V Draft. He has a 2.08 ERA after 8.2 innings -- not bad for a guy who hadn't pitched above A-ball -- but he's dealing with an ankle injury at the moment. F-Mart is at AAA, and so far swinging the bat well (.318/.379/.518).
  22. Did Parnell play in AAA before his first call-up?
  23. I figured I'd update this since it's been a while. His time in Buffalo last season was an unmitigated disaster (6.11 ERA over 18 starts), and he's back in Binghamton to start the year. The 2.50 ERA in 18 IP after 3 starts is good, but he has only 7 Ks so far. I think it will take a dramatic reversal of fortune to see him in Queens at this point.
  24. Just watched the last pitch. Honestly, the fact that Ryan even thought about swinging at a pitch that was several feet out of the strike zone should have disqualified him from arguing about it. I'm happy for Humber. He's overcome a major injury and all sorts of adversity to get to this point, not to mention expectations that for a long time kept getting revised downward.
  25. Beaten to the punch! Pablo Sandoval is up to his old tricks (.333/.396/.563). Even with him, it's a pretty sorry infield. Is the outfield any better?
