  1. According to the Daily News, its a three car private train. I think all spring training trips are by bus. Later
  2. Will our throwing goat entrails by a full moon help the odds any? Nice job. Later
  3. Here's a true softball story from the playbook of the "sneaky bastard, let's bend the rules" folks. The game was played under the following league rules: Rule 1) There is no such thing as a balk in softball Rule 2) a runner leaving the base before the ball leaves the pitcher's hand is out. Situation; bases loaded, no outs The play: The pitcher goes into the windup, arm moves forward and the pitcher holds onto the ball. The outcome: Every runner took off, anticipating that the ball would be released. The pitcher held up the ball to show the umpires, who had no other choice but to call all three runners out. TRIPLE PLAY! (I guess scored 1-1-1) After a lot of arguing and name calling ("cheater, cheater") the umpires repeated their decision that it was indeed a triple play. But that's the kind of thing you can only do once. After that, they usually change the league rules on ya'. Later
  4. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/349800p-298444c.html Apparently Willie is letting his perception of the player decide a player's future rather than looking at the results. Aaron has been borderline spectacular the last half of the season, but Willie thinks it may not last. Funny, hitters didn't catch up with changeup pitchers like John Franco, Stu Miller and one of the Jones boys (Todd? Doug?), and they didn't have 90+ fastballs to complement that pitch. Later
  5. Those boxes are new since I last saw a baseball game in RFK. But I saw where they were on tv. Your kab...er comment was very appropriate. Later
  6. Padilla 2 Piazza 3 Wright 2 Jacobs 2 Heilman 1 Later
  7. So, Edgy, were you there? It was hard to tell from tv, other than it headed toward the upper deck. Did it go in, or bounce back down? Later
  8. We had 'em all the way. (Whew!) Later
  9. Pinch hit for a guy who already hit a homer in the game. So he's a young lefty hitter facing a veteran lefty pitcher. But they have the lead. Why not see what the kid can do? Willie should be boiled in oil. Later
  10. Zvon, I mentioned a while ago (before you joined the CPF) that "later" means I hope to "see" you again. And at my age, that's meaningful to me. "Good Bye" seems too final. Later
  11. With all the euphoria surrounding the fact that the Mets have scored four whole entire runs, let us not overlook the fact that they have managed only four hits today. I agree with Edgy - the last thing you need for a win is a closer. And the last thing you need to have a winning team is also a closer. You don't need a closer when you're ahead 13-2 in the ninth inning. Omar, get us an offense. Later
  12. Mike Stanton - still hurting us. (Although I feel if he was not overworked, he would have been a valuable member of the staff) Later
  13. Kase,You're a big guy.How did a "little" kid kick you in the chin?Sounds like there's a story there.....Later
  14. Ok, so maybe their bitterness about Pedro is at least part because he's no longer there. And deep down in their hearts they wish they still had him. And you know they really need him.But is that any different from the way Mets fans discuss Jeff Kent?Do you think the team would have been more, or less, successful on the field if they had kept him?But bash away they do.What do you think? It it the same kind of feeling, or not?Later
  15. I wonder what Jae's brother is doing these days. The Mets signed both brothers atthe same time, and they were teammates on the same minor league club for a while.IIRC they had the same first and last names but different middle names (Something like Huang and Hwan)Later
  16. Just realized he's my adoptee.I don't want him to sue me for non-support.Welcome to the majors, kid.Stay a while.Later
  17. That Seattle kid pitcher Hernandez has only allowed two baserunners, both walks, through six innings. Later
  18. Not watching on tv. Isn't Vargas a lefty? And Willie is giving Jake a start against him? I'm impressed. Later
  19. "get the head of the Hagerstown Suns fan club on the forum NOW! "Sarapple8,We don't know that person's name, much less their contact info.Apparently you do.Why don't you invite'm?Later
  20. I'll cut Delgado (or whoever positioned him) some slack on his defensive location. Yes, we've all heard to "protect the line" in late inning situations. (and Tim McCarver even questions that strategy). But in the 12 th, there was a runner on second. That runner scores on a single; it doesn't require a double down the line. So Delgado was positioned away from the line, in a place where more balls are likely to be hit (according to whatever scouting chart the Fish had on Jacobs) to try to at least knock down a single to keep the runner from scoring. Of course we were thrilled the way it turned out, but don't blame Carlos. Later
  21. I'm in for giving him a try behind the dish. But I'd also like to see Roberto get his chance in one game, too. Later
  22. Back to the "chum" thingie. If you're a fan of The Sopranos you'll remember Pussy's final boat trip. When he got on board, he was a pal. Once he "left" the boat he was just (a) chum. BA DA BUM! Later
  23. Blatt, Giambi was sick. Very sick. And his smaple size in 2004 was much smaller, too. whether or that has anything to do with the "S" word is possibly a separate subject. Later
  24. Home runs or saves I just remembered, I won't be able to participate in the next gut-wrnching installment. I'll be on the road through Friday. Have fun, kiddies. Play nice, and remember to share. Later
  25. I mentioned Zane Smith on th elast page of the thread. It was wrong. Dick Ruthven Oh no, Could one be John Franco? Later
