  1. Seen on another website: ]she is way over a replacement level player wife. Later
  2. Over the weekend I heard this comment on the radio (forget whether it was Jody MacDonald or Ed Coleman): (I paraphrase) If Matsui has any defensive strength, it is going to his left. And with Delgado at first, they will need a second baseman who can help cover the 1B/2B hole. Reyes has enough range to cover balls hit up the middle. If that is true, could be they will give Matsui another chance. (or if it was Eddie C, he's singing the house tune in case the Mets can't get anyone better/ move Matsui). Later
  3. I'd like to know who the "other" minor league pitcher is. Later
  4. Discussion in the LoDuca thread got me thinking. Does walk value decline as a batter moves lower in the order? Is the walk component of OBP that critical for a batter who will hit sixth or seventh in the order (as LoDuca is expected to do)? Those are still, in my mind, more like RBI spots, where batting average may be more important. I have never really dug into the OBP stat as much as many of y'all might have. So I'd like to see your analyses. Later
  5. There is one, a kiddie zoo, in Flushing Meadow Park. (Where the World's Fair was held) Later
  6. Nein! There had to be another picture you could have used that didn't have a Montreal cap in it. Later
  7. Paul Byrd has reached agreement with the Indians on a two-year, $14.25 million contract with a club option for a third season, reports FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. He'll make $14 million for the next two years. The third-year option is worth $8 million and includes a $250,000 buyout. Byrd is passing up a reported three-year offer from the Royals. He'll join C.C. Sabathia, Cliff Lee and Jake Westbrook in the Cleveland rotation. Later

  9. Current Met Heath Bell. Don't know of any past Mets, because I never thougt it important enough to look up. Later
  10. Mark Healey wrote: Isn't he on Broadway, starring in the Odd Couple? Heals, Forget about leaving us. You're welcome here any time if you can keep coming up with lines like that. LOL! Later
  11. Wasn't Eric Valent a Rule V pickup? Later
  12. Here is Baseball America's list of players they think might be taken in the Rule V Draft. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/news/051202rulefive.html I guess they don't think too highly of the players we were afraid we might lose. (McGinley, et al.) Later
  13. Knot, how do those numbers look if you use Valasquez' last two National League years and forget his Yankee/AL year? Later
  14. I used to draw baseball stadia in good ol' pencil. A sports caroonist named Willard Mullin had a book of his hand drawings of all the stadia, with cartoons that showed famous moments in each. Mullin's books got me interested in drawing them myself. My favorites to draw were Forbes Field and Candlestick park. I never could get Crosley Field right. I stopped doing it when all those oval multi-purpose places looked alike. Edgy, if you draw that, they will come. That was beautiful, man. Later

  16. Castillo should hit very well on the carpet at the Baggie-Dome. Later
  17. Maybe they just have limited seating on the major league lifeboats for when that ship finally sinks. Later
  18. I never would have even thought about rooting against a team from delaware until I noticed the name of the manager. I wonder if Harmon Killebrew still would be able to DH for the Idaho team? Later
  19. This is scary: "...that Minaya doesn't really want to deal Milledge to Boston, because he wants to have his most significant chip to get the player he desires almost as much as Ramirez." So, it doesn't mean he won't trade Millege. It means he won't trade Millege for Manny, but would trade him for someone else. I wonder who that other player is? Any guesses? I hope they don't mean Soriano. Later

I always wanted to hear a Mets/ BoSox game in which Kiner had to announce a double play with Nomar Garciapara at short and Arquimedez Pozo at second. I think Kiner's ancestry is Polish, so he might not have a tough time with Grudzelainek. Later
  21. Aside from how can someone named Buster have any credibility, I just read the 11/22 Olney item posted by Irish. Olney's credibility takes another hit in MHO. He called Johan Santana a "power pitcher". All you have to do is watch Santana pitch one inning to realize that his best pitch is the changeup. I realize that you need a decent fastball for the changeup to be effective. But I've never heard or read of anyone else calling Santana a power pitcher. To me, that is somebody who relies on hard stuff, fastball and slider, to get hitters out. Later
