  2. ="Bret Sabermetric"] Only Vic and I, as I recall, were furious that the cheap bastards had decided that Mientkiewicz would be their first baseman. Ahem Welcome back. Later
  3. Hillbilly wrote: Nice! Isn't it 'can of corn' since they used a pole to knock the cans off the top shelves? In the olden days that is. Hi, Hilbilly. Never had the pleasure of your acquaintence, as some of the others have. Never heard that explanation about the can of corn. But I guess it makes some sense. Later
  4. Maybe that's one of the reasons why there have been three managers and three GMs. Later

  6. Nobody knows. They'll have to carbon-date him to find out. Later
  7. I'm guessing some of that money Omar is reportedly trying to save by moving some players is to have enough to enter into serious negotiations with (Pelfrey's) Agent Orange Scott Boras. After all the articles about his giving up lots of the best Mets pitching prospects in deals so far, Omar would look like the south end of a horse heading north if he couldn't get Pelfrey signed in time and lose him to the next draft. He's a good player and too bad to lose him (I saw him at two levels) but the Mets have a lot of players like him and he's neither the best nor the youngest. Thanks for the info about his school. What other players to the Mets have on the farm "like him"? Later
  9. Dante Brinkley is the PTBNL. http://mets.scout.com/2/476743.html I liked him . He can rake. He was a little old for each minor league stop because he signed late. Never found out of it was because of college, military service or jail. Later

    Victor Diaz

I disagree. I'd like to keep Diaz. And Nady, too. I still think Victor can be a full time player, while I can't picture Nady doing the same. While every fly ball to Diaz is still an adventure, I don't think Nady (based on seeing him play- limited sample size) has the range nor the arm to play right field over Diaz. And, we saw what happened last year when we really didn't have a player on the bench who could fill in and produce for an extended period of time if a regular got hurt. If we traded Diaz, and then Nady (or Floyd) got hurt (an historic possibility in the case of Floyd), I don't think I'd like to see Julio Franco or Woodward (or even Tike) playing a corner outfield spot for an extended period of time. Victor Diaz

This post still doesn't answer my question. http://cybermessageboard.ehost.com/getalife/viewtopic.php?t=1791&start=40 Later
  13. JD, re: your list If Nady AND Diaz both ride the pine as bench players, who are you saying would be the "regular" right fielder, Tike? Who else? Later

  17. Or Mariner's reliever JJ Putz. Back to topic. The Mets did lose two players in the secondary (minor league) phase of the draft: ]B-Mets SS David Bacani was selected by the Red Sox, and B-Mets RHP Celso Rondon was selected by Tampa Bay in todays Rule V Draft No other Mets were selected Too bad about Bacani. 19. It is given every year to a player who performs outstanding community service. The presenter this year will be Johnny Bench. Here's the write-up. ]In recognition of his charitable efforts Biggio was named one of The Sporting News' Good Guys in 2004. He and his wife Patty are active in The Sunshine Kids, a support organization for children with cancer and their families, raising $1.8 million dollars for the group by hosting the annual Sunshine Kids Celebrity Golf Classic. The Biggios also hold an annual baseball party at Minute Maid Park, at which more than 100 children with cancer play baseball with Biggio serving as pitcher, and a holiday party at the Sunshine Kids house that the Biggios helped restore and furnish. I like it when nice things happen to good people. Later
  20. Don't forget Jose Valentin. Later
  21. The best news is that we won't have to face Wilkerson on a regular basis. For a while there (although he may have cooled off last year) he was a pain in the ERA to Mets pitchers. Later
  22. My friend the Chisox fan says Valentin has a very good "baseball mind". If he did not catch on as a player, the Pale Hose were going to offer him a minor league managing job. Later
  23. Good writer. I recall his stuff in the Sporting News when he covered (it must have been ) the KC A's. Later

Since I found out I was Diabetic, the one food I gave up that I miss the most is Pop Tarts.
