  1. I read into the "met not being able to hit" line in the article you linked, and thought it was your way of restating what some have said about Hernandez. If you had done it with that in mind, I would have commended you for your cleverness. But since it was just a tv alert, its ok for it to be in this thread. EDIT: when I started this thread, I was only thinking of the CWS. But why can't this be made a sticky, to be used for future Metly TV alerts? Its in keeping with the RMSFT (read more, start fewer threads) philosophy. And, with that in mind: Mets Spring Training TV/Radio Broadcasts ------------------------------------------------- March 03 Cardinals (7pm / WFAN) March 05 @ Dodgers (1pm / WFAN) March 05 Puerto Rico (2pm / ESPN) March 06 Indians (1pm / ESPN) March 11 Florida (1pm / WFAN) March 12 @ Baltimore (1pm / WFAN) March 16 Braves (7pm / SNY) March 17 @ Dodgers (7pm / SNY) March 18 Atlanta (1pm / CH11 & WFAN) March 19 Orioles (1pm / CH11) March 21 @ Orioles (1pm / SNY) March 22 Dodgers (7pm / SNY) March 23 @ Marlins (7pm / SNY) March 24 @ Cardinals (1pm / SNY) March 25 @ Houston (1pm / CH11 & WFAN) March 26 Baltimore (12pm / CH11 & WFAN) March 27 Dodgers (1pm / SNY) March 28 @ Marlins (1pm / SNY) March 29 @ Braves (1pm / SNY) March 30 Cardinals (1pm / SNY) March 31 Cardinals (1pm / SNY & ESPN) Later
  2. Edgy, What has this got to do with the CWS? Or is this a wry comment that Hernandez "can't hit anything"? Later
  3. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article_perspectives.jsp?ymd=20060207&content_id=1307889&vkey=perspectives&fext=.jsp Dis this just build the bandwagon for other publications to jump on? Has anyone else seen any predictions yet in other publications or websites? Later
  4. Opinion: That weight must explain the large, brown, grassless spot in left field in RFK stadium where he played as a member of the expansion Senators. The rest of the outfield was nice and green. Fact: Although Greg Jeffries was twice voted minor league player of the year as a shortstop, he never played that position in the majors. Later
  5. Did anyone else see the game last night? Hostteam Venezuela won the series by beating the Dominican Republic in extra innings. Anderson Hernandez got a hit and scored a run. And, unlike almost all of the other players (maybe the stereotype about Latin American players is true) actually took some first pitches in his at bats. But he also made one of the best fielding plays I've seen in a few years. Playing second base, he ranged to his right, tracked down a grounder on the shortstop side of the bag, got to his knees, and threew the runner out at first. If that is an example of the way he can play second base, I want him as the starting second baseman for the Mets this year. With a glove like that (especially since Delgado doesn't have great range) he would only have to hit a weak .250 or so to stay in the lineup. Later
  6. Idiots. Every sports fan knows you have to have a team to dislike. And its not like the kids who end up on that team will all become captains of industry. Let them learn to know rejection. Later
  7. I edited my post. You were right. Happy now, bubeleh? Later
  8. And if you never ate at his ribs place in Manhattan, let me get you drooling by telling you that the ribs were so tender that the meat practically fell off the bone. Better than Virgil's. EDIT: Hopefully made more understandable as a result of Bret's vaild comments. Later
  9. Too bad the Mets don't have their farm team in Williamsport anymore. Later

Edgy DC wrote: I can't fix that. Yancy has done some vodoo on the field where I stick in the levels with the links. Is that anything like voodoo? Or is it some new techie term? Later
  11. "Head problems"? Is Anna Benson going to be on the show? Since when was head ever a prob...., er, never mind. Later

I always thought McAndrew was a wimp. The guy couldn't go 9 with a ten run lead? It was an August game, for goodness sakes. Was Gil saving him for the upcoming playoffs? Oh, OK, nice job. It was good seeing those names again. Thanks, Later

Ahhhhhh! That's nice. Thank you. Now, can you help me remember all the great stuff I was going to post? EDIT: Yipeeee! I'm my favorite Met - (L'il) Al Jackson. Later
  16. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2005/09/13/hoping_his_power_translates/?page=full And he has a sense of humor, too. (note the Ted Williams comment) (Not sure where I read this - it was a Gammons comment) I'm not sure whether he can play in the US until 2007 because he hasn't yet established a permanent residence outside of Cuba. Later
  17. Saw something that said that Matt Ginter has signed with the Sox (didn't say Red or White) on a minor league deal. And Bob Keppel will be a non-roster invitee to the Snakes' training camp. Later
  18. Grant Roberts' quest to make it back to the majors is probably just a pipe dream. Later
  19. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Grant wasn't involved with the Yankees at that time, or any time. Oops. You're right. Never mind. Later
  20. When you look at Grant's reaction to the Cleon Jones incident, you have to look at Grant's reaction to when several Yankee players destroyed the Copa in that famous brawl incident. (My uncle told me that he was present when several Yankees later did the same thing in the Oyster Bar at Grand Central Terminal) Does anyone remember remember how (or if) Grant punished them? Later
  21. The happy recap. http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060202&content_id=1305589&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Later
  22. There is a poster on other baseball boards who's screen name is Dr. Dooby. He is German. He is a Mets fan. He is a Lawyer. He is also Commissioner of, and player in, a semi-pro baseball league in Germany. International Baseball Fever. Catch it! EDIT: Had to like the name of the Lithuanian guy in there: Virmidas Neverauskas. If I had to guess, I'd say he's in charge of their "don't ask, don't tell" policy. Later
  23. Since I couldn't find the "Retire Clemente;s Number"or a prediction thread, I'll post this here: I predict that in a few years, as MLB tries to become International and establish teams overseas, someone will try to get Masanori Murikami's number retired. And to promote good will for the new teams, MLB will do it. Jackie broke the color line. But Murikami was the first player to break through the Pacific Rim when he played for San Francisco. Just a thought. Later
  24. I have heard from some friends in Florida that part of the reason for the name change is pressure from some fundamentalist groups. They wouldn't have group outings to the games or buy things with a logo that includes the word "Devil" Has anyone else read or heard that? Later
  25. Then I'll restart with Wolf's post. Opinion: Mo Vaughn weighed a higher number of pounds than Art had hairs on his head. Fact: Greg Jeffries won two consecutive Baseball America "Minor League Player of the Year" Awards. Later
