  2. Yesterday I saw the centerfielder for the Connecticut Defenders - a kid named Timpner - make two outstanding plays. I was at their game against the New Britain (AA) Rock Cats. If anyone would like, I'll post a game report ala our occasional poster Scrapple8. Later

  4. Heard from someone that Floyd has been activated and Lastings optioned out. No link yet. Anyone heard the same? Later
  5. Jeff Keppinger has gone 6- for 9 in the recent two games for Norfolk against the Yankees' Columbus team. He is now hitting over .310. I read an item (Daily News early edition, no link) a few days ago that he has been working out in centerfield. The quote went on to say that this will "improve his value to the Mets". So, what do you think this means? Is he: * Going to be brought up to be the regular second baseman and hit in the #2 hole? * Trade bait? * Going to be brought up as a reserve? * Staying at AAA until lost in the minor league draft? * Something else? But I've had reactions, yes. And it's not fun. Looks like you got the allergy under control by being very careful. Good news ]Makes me want to kick the parents in the fucking teeth. Now you might want to concentrate on those anger management classes. Later

  8. I watched the end of the Norfolk - Columbus game last night. He got two hits and the Columbus announcers joked that his average was now "alllll the way up to .180"I saw Joe behind the plate. He looked terrible, not only for someone with the reputation for being a good defensive catcher, but for just about any catcher you've ever seen. There was one bad pased ball, another pitch that he missed, but the runner didn't advance, and a marginal pitch that hit the dirt in front of him that he didn't block. It was scored a wild pitch, but seemed very stoppable.Scarlett, things aren't looking too good for your kid.Later

Mr. Zero wrote: My feeling is that National teams are at a huge disadvantage when playing in AL parks since they do not have a gargantuan DHs on their rosters and basically have to improvise with pinch hitters and regulars who are now forced to adapt to the DH lifestyle. It's unfair I tell ya! Though I do not have any statistics to back up this theory and it doesn't explain the total dominance by the AL this year. Good oint. Does anyone have any numbers that break down the IL records by AL and NL home ballparks? Later
  10. seawolf17 wrote: ="Gwreck"]Only good thing is that Wright hits about .700 in the cleanup spot. 30 for 69 (.435), 5 HR. .512 OBP, .768 SLG. Nice. But anyone have any numbers on how he does as a pinch hitter? His role tonight will be similar to that - four (hopefully six) times. I'd guess because he has been a regular since he joined the team, he probably doesn't have much more then 10 at bats, and that may have been in his first year. He may be one of those players who needs to play the field in order to get his juices flowing. Later

I like your linked gallery. The Kent Falls pic brought back nice memories. Thanks, Later
  12. So far in 2006, the Al has won interleague play by approximately 125-75. As for the AL Central, the only lineup that overpowers opponents is the White Sox'. And they have a well balanced pitching staff. Detroit has good pitching and a "do what they have to do" lineup. The Twins have two ace pitchers, two hot hitters and ????? The standings don't surprise me. Later

  15. OK, Now that he is apparently on the way to recovery I can mention this: In today's article about him in the NY Daily News, it said that when his wife told him that the Red Sox had beat the Mets in the first two games of the series, "he smiled". So, may all Mets fans join with me in saying a hearty "fukk you, Peter". Later
  16. My current concern is that the team still seems reliant on the home run to score. I don't see good situational hitting skills throughout the lineup, or the ability to "build runs". In absence of the long ball, it seems like most of the big scoring innings have been the result of walks and errors rather than stringing together a series of hits. Just my impression, though. Later

  20. Seems I can't get away from those guys. I was just reading a Computerworld Executive briefing on Voice over IP. It contained the following comment: ]Softphones on laptop PCs allow the Boston Red Sox to save $3000 per user per month in long-distance phone charges (to/from their various farm teams, including their baseball academy in the Dominican Republic). And routing local phone calls to the press room via VoIP saves the team another $40,000 annually. Interesting. Later Please move this to the Non Baseball Forum if you think it belongs there.
