  2. If they had hidden cameras in all the rooms in a clubhouse, maybe there wouldn't be so manyunanswered steroids questions. You'd think a player with 13 "steals" would get some appreciation from his teammates. Later
  3. FK, this morning's Daily News said one would be a regular first rounder and on ewould be a sandwich pick (between the first and second rounds). Later

  5. I still vote "no". The only possible mitigating circumstance, under which he might sign once here, is that he would really (as in strongly) want to be reunited with Rick Peterson. But Boras would keep that up his sleeve during negotiations anyhow. Later
  6. I would have taken the 1962 outfield of Richie Ashburn, Duke Snider and Gus Bell .... in 1956. Later
  7. Does anyone know if the guy catching for SF is a relative of theirs? Later
  8. Chorizo is a spicy Portugese sausage. I didn't know it was eaten as a "stand alone". I've only seen it used as a flavoring ingredient in other dishes (Like a paella). Later
  9. More about Jaws. A few years ago, there was a poll taken. The question was (I paraphrase): "If you are clicking through the channels and you see a movie is on, which one will you always watch to the end, no matter where you come in?" The overwhelming majority said Jaws. Later
  10. To be frank, this new guy just doesn't cut the mustard. Later
  11. Vic, your mention of Magnificent 7 made me ponder a while. Have you noticed that if it wasn't for (having to save) kids and small animals in action adventure/ western movies, many of the characters wouldn't have been killed? Just a thought. LAter
  12. Yancy Street Gang wrote: That has nothing to do with symmetry. Wrigley Field is symmetrical and distinctive. Not exactly. I believe ther is a two foot difference between the left and right field line distances at Wrigley(or there used to be). So it's not truly symmetrical. But I get your point. Later
  13. ]Actually, I just don't like stadiums that are not built into the fabric of the city as much, one of Shea's great failings that will be continued in the new venue. WP, by fabric, do you mean style or location? The retro, Ebbets Field-like exterior of the new Mets park may address some of the style concerns. There's little they can do about location in a different neighborhood now. I like the asymmetrical parks, especially after the "all purpose" monstrosities build a generation ago. At least if you're kidnapped, blindfolded and dropped into a baseball staduim(a personal fear of mine), you can pretty much figure out where you are in the asymmetrical ones*. In those cookie cutter parks, you couldn't. * (EDIT: After they remove the blindfold) Later
  14. ScarletKnight41 wrote: The worst example of that is the stupid hill in centerfield in Houston's new stadium. One day someone is going to get hurt on that thing, and there's absolutely no reason for it to be there. And it isn't even traditional for Houston. The famous old centerfield hill was in Crosley Field in Cincy. Later
  15. Just noticed this on the Mets' site: ]Pitcher Friendly: Distinctive asymmetrical outfield walls, along with generous dimensions (LF - 335'; LC - 379'; CF - 408'; RC - 391'; RF - 330') make for a traditional pitcher's park. Since they're starting from scratch, I wonder why the lf/rf dimensions aren't the same. Anybody know? Is it because of the shape of the building lot? Later
  16. Yancy, those names may be changing shortly. I used to work with someone who's family came here from Iran. She told me that when the US was pals with the Shah, they were proud to be called Iranians. Then the Ayatollah Kumeini took power and there was the hostage incident, Iranians started to refer to themselves as "Persian" to avoid any stigma. When animosity toward Iran moved to the back burner, they started using Iranian again. Now, with the :Axis of evil" speech, recent developments in the Middle East and nuclear arms threats, they may start using Persian again. Later

And if you have to drive to Shea from far away, check out the public parking a within a few blocks from the Main Street Flushing station. Then, you are only one subway stop from Shea. And after the game when you return to Flushing, try one of the excellent and varied Oriental restaurants near Main Street. Later
  18. Major kudos to SNY. Most of the other tv stations on which I've seen games have done something that drove me nuts. It involved the timing of showing individual player stats during an at bat. It seemed that when a player came to bat for the first time in a game, during the first pitch the first camera shot would be a full face closeup, no graphics/stats shown. The season stats would then be shown on the second pitch. And it seemed the announcers wouldn't tell you the stats until they flashed on the screen during that second pitch. But if the batter put the ball in play on that first pitch, we never were told how they were doing. This was very irritating early in the season (for rookies we didn't know about) or later in the season if we hadn't seen that team play for a long time ( to know who was hot, not and shot). And to compound the problem, many stations didn't repeat season stats when the batter came up later on the game. If they showed anything at all, it was usually what the batter had done earlier in that game - only. SNY shows us those stats on the first pitch. NOTE: Of course, we already know all the information we need from our fabulous KTEs. But, good job anyhow, SNY. You're doing it right. Later
  19. Yancy Street Gang wrote: How come you didn't put the words "All-Purpose" in front of the thread title, by the way? That seems to be in vogue lately. I try not to do that. I think the title, as written, conveys the theme of the thread. Later
  20. Didn't say whether they should or shouldn't. I just find it amusing that some announcers get into verbal gymnastics trying not to say it and was looking for some memorable/funny examples y'all have heard. Just trying to start something we can enjoy on an off-day. Later
  21. Poor Alamo. He would have received a full 6 points if the Mets had been able to win it in regulation time. But some points had to go to the relievers and the folks who produced the winning run. Later

  25. Let's face it. At Valentin's age, he was getting tired and wanted to go home and take a nap. So he ended the game. Later
