  1. =ashie62 post_id=193266 time=1747770376 user_id=90] Its anecdotal but players just don't run out balls as much anymore as ago. I appreciate its a long season and such but how hard is it to make the commitment to be professional and leg things out on a consistent basis
  2. =Centerfield post_id=193257 time=1747764653 user_id=65] The rest of the guys have been awful. None of these losers have an OPS above .700: Nimmo, Vientos, Taylor, Marte, Acuna, and Siri. And they all play fairly regularly. 741 plate appearances between the six of them.
  3. Matt, Tommie and Ronn Reynolds. Later
  4. =kcmets post_id=193223 time=1747742883 user_id=53] [bLOCKQUOTE]I have never insulted anyone. I simply describe them, accurately.[/bLOCKQUOTE] How's the air up there high atop Mount MFS, btw?
  5. I's think Williams will be in AAA after mid season, with a chance for a brief stay at the end of this season. He has been tried in centerfield, and if he can play there, he will definitely have a chance this year. Clifford, although recently hot, is still climbing to .250. He may need more time at AA. But any improvement would accelerate that. He may be ready just about the time Alonso's two year contract is ready to expire. Later
  6. Last Sunday I saw the Binghamton Rumble Ponies play at Hartford (AA). We sat next to the third base dugout. I went there to focus on a few highly rated players. Jett Williams - ss : There is small, there is tiny, and there is Williams. We're talking Freddy Patek size. But the kid can play. He got three hits, stole a base and carried himself like a major leaguer. He got his uniform dirty in the first inning and he wore it proudly. Ryan Clifford - LF (also plays 1B): Big lefty hitter. Has a nice swing, He had two hits ( including a double off the centerfield wall) and didn't seem fooled on breaking pitches. I'd need to see more of him to decide if he has a chance. He pulled a pitch over the roof in right field, just foul, so the power they traed for is apparently there. Kevin Parada - C: He was at DH and seemed to have a nice swing, but looked bad on some pitches. Former #1 pick, but so was Greg Goosen. I wanted to see pitching phenom Jonah Tong, but he had pitched before. And My daughter's friend's son, reliever Trey McLaughlin, never got into the game. Neither did former 5 tools prospect Alex Ramirez who is still struggling at AA. Later
  7. If the hitters are in a slump, trying to pull everything toward the Green Monster isn't going to get them out of it. Later
  8. They used to call the pitcher who comes in mid game and is expected to pitch several innings the "long man". I see no reason why that isn't still good enough to use. In The Long Season, Jim Brosnan had that role described to him (sometimes starter and sometimes reliever) and he said "my arm still hurts". Later
  9. All I remember is that his last name sounds like the noise my cat made when he threw up a hairball. Later

  14. Frayed Knot wrote: He was the longest odds going in, I think. What did a bet to Show pay? And I wonder how many Mets fans placed that bet just for kicks. My wife commented that they never showed the win, place, show payouts. I was rooting for Gosger, and the horse led most of the way and got nosed out at the end. Later

  17. Two guys named Schmidt, Mike and Gold, have been Met tormentors over the years. I hope third time is a charm and we can tame this guy. Later

  21. Tong is scheduled to pitch tonight, so I probably won't have a chance to see him in action on Sunday. Later
  22. =kcmets post_id=192794 time=1747424373 user_id=53] I like to watch at least one of these games on YES so I can see and hear Michael Kay. He's just simply horse- head and shoulders above all the major NYC sports guys.
  23. From SNY: Former MLB All-Star Rafael Furcal turned himself in Wednesday at the Broward County Jail on two felony charges: aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle. The incident occurred on Monday, but details remain limited. The warrant was issued by Sunrise police. Furcal, a 14-year MLB veteran and 2011 World Series champion, has prior DUI arrests from his playing days. He was released on a $7,500 bond. Later
