  1. I've read about that prediction of an arm injury for Wheeler before. (subscription site) It stems from his motion, in which his pitching arm and his glove arm both have the elbow higher than the hands. It is called the "inverted W". I don't know why it isn't just called the M. Mark Prior is the latest example of pitchers using that motion experiencing serious arm injuries. Later
  2. My kid is a toolsy outfielder who has been in the organization for several years. Now 22, it looks like he is finally putting it together. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=RF&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=501571 Welcome to the family, kid. Later
  3. Hoorayy! According to Inside Pitch (subscription service), Satin has been promoted to Buffalo. Later
  4. As per ESPN.com: Buffalo center fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis underwent season-ending shoulder surgery on his left, non-throwing shoulder to repair the labrum. Later
  5. It must be his age (26 yrs old) that is keeping that on-base streak going. Every decent Mets prospect aged 25 and younger is injured. Later
  6. As the Summer heats up, so does he: May - .281/.330/.438 ~ .768 June - .330/.374/.540 ~ .914 July - .409/.435/.636 ~ 1.071 Later
  7. He's been on the field less than Rudy. Later
  8. Zach Lutz is suffering “concussion-like symptoms” after getting beaned on Friday. That’s just too bad. My kid’s hitting .326/.417/.551 in 27 games in AAA. Later
  9. Guess he was just anxious to show them what he could do. He went 3 for 3 with a dinger in his first game after promotion. Later
  10. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Well... I haven't seen his birth certificate, so I have to assume he was born in Kenya. ... where he was scouted by Kenyasaw Mountain Landis. Later
  11. And 8 of his 20 ER (he gave up one in his start last night) were in one anomalous start..throw out that 3 2/3 inning debacle and his ERA was 1.49 in the other 13 starts with only 3 HR given up (compared to 2 in that game). You got yourself a promising lookin' kid there, Edgy. Later
  12. Edgy DC wrote: I'm kind of surprised to see him in the Sally League. A guy --- especially one with a college pedigree --- knocks down buildings in Brooklyn, I expect him to open in St. Lucie the next year. Savannah seems like a lateral move. I think this may have been a reaction to the flak the prior regime took for promoting some of their top prospects too quickly. That said, I expect he will be promoted to PSL after the SAL All-Star break. Later
  13. FK, your kid has been lighting it up this year. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=RF&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=519377 That OBP is off the charts. The questions I'd read about him concerned his ability to catch up to a real good fastball. He seems to have answered that question at this level. Can't wait to see if he can continue to do it once he gets promoted. Later
  14. He's going to have to improve his fielding. Last time I checked a box score for one of his games, I noticed that he already has 12 errors this year. Later
  15. Well, he'd better buy one real quick. He got called up to Binghamton today. Later
  16. I have Flores, Puello and Lutz. Once they make the majors (even for a cup of coffee) they're on their own and off my adoptee list. Later
  17. Edgy DC wrote: Vic Sage wrote: A Stranger Among Us (1992) this Hasidic take on WITNESS was a disaster.) It's like he asked himself, "What's the greatest challenge a director of actors can give himself? Melanie Griffith, undercover cop. No, wait. Melanie Griffith, undercover cop among the Hasidim. There we go." I guess it wasn't your beshert. Later
  18. Pretty good start to the new season: 7 IP, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 0 HR, 8-4 GB-FB I rate it as "pretty good" until I find out if he also sold tickets and helped sweep out the stadium after the game. Later
  19. Many of the projections I've read about Wilmer changing positions have been based on his size - listed as 6'3" and 185 pounds. The writers anticipate that he will add weight to his frame, limiting his range and quickness. But he hasn't added that weight yet. It will be interesting to see if he stays at short if he keeps the weight off. Later
  20. Thanks, FK.That confirms what I've heard/ read about him from other sources. Later
  21. When some of my adoptees have made the majors, I kicked them out of the house. Now there's room in the house. So, I adopted a new baby boy - Cesar Puello. He's a (gasp) righthand hitting outfielder who seems to have a lot of potential and a long way to go to reach the majors. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=puello001ces Welcome to the family, kid. Make us proud. Later
  22. Edgy DC wrote: His foot has apparently never felt so good. Just ask Yogi Lutz. And he never once asked the dad how he got that nickname? (Or did I miss it?) Thanks, Later
  23. That's my boy! Thanks. Later
  24. When I was a kid, I loved the old serial films, both on tv and atthe movies on Saturday. Each "thrilling episode" ended with a cliff-hanger, to be resolved atthe start of the next episode with either a diffferent camera angle or some downright revisionist history. SW III was the logical extension of the Flash Gordon movies, just as Indiana Jones was the logocal extension of Time Tyler's Luck, with a little Zorro and Gene Autry's Radio Ranch thrown in for good measure. When I saw the first Indy movie, I loved it, and couldn't help think where a director might have ended an episode and how the situation might be resolved next week. But SW III brought back some great memories. Years later, when I joined my present company, I looked around the Customer Service department and thought they could have cast the bar scene there. Later
  25. He's gone 0-7 in his first few AFL games. Later
