  1. Billy Williams. Bonds doesn't deserve any votes .... not even in our poll. (well, if you asked us to name the biggest douchebag of his era....) Later
  2. I voted here before I saw the right field list(Only been around the infield so far), so Dawson was a right fielder to me. Whether Dawson was there or not, I voted for Al Oliver. He's a borderline HOF-er, and if he won't ever get enough votes there, he got mine here. Later

  4. Edgy DC wrote: I measured with my own formula, and Simmons again comes out as one of the most sorely underappreciated players of my time. I've got him number one and Carter number two. I'll call it even after defense is factored in. I thought the same way, and even voted for Ted. He had a higher career BA and more career RBI. But then I checked out the GP behind the dish, and Ted moved away from catching toward the end of his career. Maybe, I shouldn't have been as hasty. Why not Piazza? Because he played only a little over half his games in the NL East. Later
  5. The vote came out the way I figured them, Mike and then Chipper. I'm late to the voting, but I'll vote anywayz to see who the rest of you picked. If I'm way off base, I'll tell you why I voted the way I did. Later
  6. I hope we get Oswalt for one reason: So he can go on Francesa's show and tell him, "It's OH-swalt, you dope. Not OZ-walt. I've been in the league for ten years, get it straight." Man, that just gave me some old radio flashbacks. I remember when Mel Allen kept saying "Leroy" Face, when the best closer of that time's name was El Roy Face. He never got it right. And Stan Lomax, a fixture behind the WOR sports desk for many years would pronounce All-Star pitcher Cam -meel- ee-oh Pas-kwal as Cam-Ill-oh Pas-kul. Of course, these days we have Jon Miller constantly trying to proove that he can pronounce names correctly. He comes off as just constantly trying. Later
  7. Edgy DC wrote: I thought it was because he was like a preacher thieving hearts in a travellin' show. And selling a couple of bottles of Dr. Good. Later
  8. I did a Yahoo search on Mets scouts. The second link to pop up surprised me:(the second group of links) http://wwwwp.find-assist.com/search?qo=scout.mets.com&rn=0trD8gOEVEUEA2_ I wonder what he is doing these days? Later
  9. I dunno. A site that folks here say is gay (see several other threads) should love a swish- a- licious call. Later
  10. I voted "back in the swing" as a hope. Later
  11. soupcan wrote: Short for 'Zipperhead' right? Actually, I believe it was because the principal Japanese fighter plane the Allies faced was code named the "Zero". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A6M_Zero and Zip is another way to say zero. Later, it became a word used for all Japanese. Later
  12. Uh, not for nuthin', but I remember when the World War II war movies used "Zips" as a derogatory term for Japanese (So was "Nips"). I realize he meant two games in which he gave up no runs, but somebody should eat a lot of sushi for that headline. Later
  13. Lutz put on the DL with a fractured foot. The one bit of good news, if there is any, is that the injuries in Brooklyn during 2007 and 2008 were in the RIGHT foot. This is the left foot. Is that better or worse? I guess it's not a winning combination no matter how you slice it. Later
  14. Bobby Abreu? Later
  15. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Guess I'd rather have an asshole on the team who smacks the heck out of the ball than a nice guy hitting .170or where GMJ is at these days. What he said. To carry the doctor thing along a bit, I wouldn't want him to be my Proctologist, constantly striving for the perfect , er, insertion.. Later
  16. Junior Griffey. Later
  17. Talk about your basic delusions of grandeur for Paul. Now he thinks he's Craig f'n Biggio. What next? Centerfield? Later
  18. I'm guessing the Post will have "Jeter Needed the Rest, So He Made It Rain". Later
  19. The amazing thing is that now that Dickey seems to have finally mastered the pitch, he could pitch until he is as old as Moyer is today. (Although he feels a lot older after the Mets hit him for 5 runs last night) Knuckleballers, if they are any good, pitch to the age of 40 and beyond - Wilhelm, Wilbut Wood, the Niekros and Wakefield. Dickey is a mere kid at 35. Who knows? Later
  20. Edgy DC wrote: I can't think of anybody who's been unstoppable for 7-10 years at a run. Maddux? Seaver? Walter Johnson? That reminds me. Somebody should interview Jamie Moyer about what it was like to pitch against Walter Johnson. (Yes, that was me calling someone else old.) Later
  21. Barajas and Blanco were seen flipping a coin. The loser gets to catch tonight. The results of the coin toss aren't available yet. Later
  22. Steve Phillips on WFAN: 'I would trade Strasbourg for Oswalt. I would not take Mejia for Oswalt'. I wonder if he would have traded John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander. Later
  23. batmagadanleadoff wrote: I'm still mourning the trade of Mora to the O's. Even before the trade, Mora was already showing 20+ HR power if given regular playing time. I'd bet that Davey would've lobbied to trade Rey instead of Mora. Twenty HR's from a SS in one season is nothing to sneeze at. You don't have to go that far back to find a should'/coulda' deal that involved trading an infielder who could hit for one with better defense. what about Ty Wiggington, who has turned into sort of a poor man's Dan Uggla, for Jeff Keppinger? Hey, IMO, Jeff Keppinger would even be better than Cora. Later
