  1. This year I expect him to start changing his "good field - he might hit" tag to a "Good field - looks like he can hit" tag. After that, maybe part of the Mets DP duo (with Tejada) for many years to come. LAter
  2. Could also have said, "Former Mets minor leaguer Shawn Bowman". Later
  3. Bad news coming in twos: 1965-68 Met Greg Goossen -- catcher, first baseman and Casey Stengel anecdote staple -- found dead at 65. And, no, in ten years he has no chance to be 75. Are you trying to make us laugh or cry? RIP, Greg. Later
  4. Another boy of summer. Somewhere in my garage I have a Duke Snider model Rawlings glove. Last time I saw it, it was next to my Jim Hickman home run ball. Later
  5. Frayed Knot wrote: Somebody on the radio this morning pointed out that the Mets are holding Latin Appreciation/Jose Reyes Poster Night on August 6th ... one week After the trading deadline. That could get awkward. You're right. But then again this is the team that saluted Mike Jacobs on Jewish Heritage night, then learned he isn't Jewish. I don't think the rest of the front office will hold off on making a trade because a promotional event has been scheduled. Nor do I think the promotional department checks in with the front office when scheduling an event. Later
  6. When do you start to get interested in Spring Training?
  7. Another tall Dutch guy came to a local team yesterday. Dan Gadjurek, the 6' 11" center acquired by the Nets is from Holland. (via UCLA) Later
  8. Since we can't shift into Backman Turner Overdrive, Murphy Turner will do nicely, thank you. Later
  9. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Kitchen has all new, state-of-the art appliances, but no range. I'm torn. On one hand that line makes me wish we still nominated, and voted for, BOCs. On the other hand, why go through all that work ? That one would have won hands down. Later
  10. For those of us wishing he'd take a long walk off a short pier*, he's got one of those, too. Later * = old expression I haven't heard in years.
  11. I think that because of his high OBP against righties, he will be moved to the #2 spot in the batting order after the AS break, with Pagan being dropped down. When lefties pitch (I wish he would get a chance to show whet he can do against them), Pagan resumes the #2 spot. Later
  12. MFS62 wrote: OK, here's my JP trivia question. Someone on those teams with J.P. played high school ball with a famous Mets first baseman. Who was it? Who was the first baseman? Later It was his manager Danny Monzon, who played on the Monroe High School team with Ed Kranepool. The person who was to later become my wife attended Monroe then, too. And, as I may have mentioned beore, I briefly played with Monzon on a sandlot (outside of school) team sponsored by El Toro Bravo (a beer company). After Monzon's major career, he became a manager. I followed his teams when he managed in the Mets organization. That's why I knew many of the players in the original question in this thread. If Edgy had asked about some other Mets minor league teams/ years, I might have known zilch. Later
  13. Due to the underwhelming response, I'll keep the questions out there and post the answers on Sunday. Later

  15. Edgy DC wrote: Our final Met had a nice little career, but was a Met only ephemerally. That clue just blew the fuse of the Jeapordy computer. "Epemerally"? You mean not as a player but a coach/ manager/ exec? (If it is, that was part of MY trivia question.) My mind has to re-boot. Later
  16. I hope someone gets the last one, so I can ask my trivia questions about him. Later
  17. Prefix - DeWayne Vaughn? Jeff Bettendorf? (I'm stretching here. I used to confuse him with Jeff Bittiger, so I'm guessing they were on the same team.) Later
  18. OK, hinty time. Of the three un-named Mets: One was traded along with one of the already named Mets; Ronn Reynolds The other two have prefixes on their first names. LaSchelle Tarver? Later
  19. Jeff Bittiger. Later
  20. Lloyd McClendon Later
  21. Thanks, FK.That confirms what I've heard/ read about him from other sources. Later
  22. When some of my adoptees have made the majors, I kicked them out of the house. Now there's room in the house. So, I adopted a new baby boy - Cesar Puello. He's a (gasp) righthand hitting outfielder who seems to have a lot of potential and a long way to go to reach the majors. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=puello001ces Welcome to the family, kid. Make us proud. Later

Why are the Mets saying tomorrow and other people saying Wednesday? Don't I trust the Mets date over WFANs? I understand how you feel. The Super Bowl was broadcast on Fox this year, so I didn't believe the final score until I verified it on another station. Later
  24. Edgy DC wrote: Joel Sherman published the following cryptic tweet: All Ollie Perez stories must cease now until one begins: The #Mets today released Ollie Perez ... #notinteresting Which was cryptic enough that folks misinterpeted it to read that the Mets had, in fact, released liver Prez, which they of course had not. It was a small seismic tremor in the blogosphere. You could feel it if you were on a high floor. Joel Sherman must love messing with the heads of Mets fans, sending a message that could be so easily misinterpreted.. Later
  25. He'll make the team, then surprise everyone when he pitches so well that, if Omar were still here, he'd give him a contract extension. OK, so I'm taking the last of my pain pills. Never mind. Later
