  1. FOX reacts: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/fox-and-mlb-release-statement-on-exclusion-of-tony-gwynn-tribute-during-all-star-game-031640507.html Later
  2. My kid went 5 for 5 last night, with two doubles and one RBI. That brought his season's average over .300 (.313) for Kingsport. Later

Checking a comprehensive list of ... one player, I note that Willie Mays started the 1972 All-Star Game and played five innings at 41. I'm going to guess he's not the only guy who can put the lie to that claim. Let's try, I dunno, Pete Fuckin' Rose. Started the 1982 game at 41 and played five innings. Both older at the time than Jeter is now. Both better at the time than Jeter is now. And I have few charitable thoughts for Pete F. Rose. Wainwright is my MVP. Also important is what they didn't say - no mention of Tony Gwynn or Don Zimmer. Later
  4. Edgy MD wrote: Screenplay by Mark Bomback. How can I resist? Had to check this out to find out if he went from pitching to writing (like Jim Brosnan) . Its a different guy. Oh well. Haven't seen the movie yet. Later
  5. At least they gave the MVP to Trout. There is still some semblance of logic in the baseball world. Later
  6. Zvon wrote: Boooooooooo. A.L. wins 5-3 Murphy was in a position to do damage. Shame. Dat'sAbaseball folks. Did they give Jeets the MVP or a group BJ? Or both? Later
  7. I'm not going to speculate or contemplate. But if they do trade ol' Jelly Belly, I'll kinda' miss him. He looks like a slow pitch softball player out there. Later

We just took a vote. Its you. Shortening the break by a few hours, Noah just got the save in the Futures Game. Later
  11. Keep 'em coming, Edgy. You're on a roll. Later
  12. G-Fafif wrote: Jim Brosnan, 84, Redlegs pitcher and Bouton before there was a Bouton when it came to the ballplayer diary. I have his two books and still can remember passages from them (especially the first one - The Long Season.) They were the first "inside the clubhouse" baseball books and still probably the only one actually written by the ballplayer (as mentioned in the linked second article.). Later ones, like Jim Bouton's Ball Four were dictated, then actually written by other writers. RIP, Broz. Later
  13. The box score shows that Lagares got three hits and an RBI. What did he do that has someone writing him off? Later
  14. Birds beat the MFYs in 10. Early in the game, a high hopping ground ball went off Jeter's glove. Naturally, it was scored a base hit. Listened to the in-game scoring summary, but not the call itself. He even gets the calls his way on the road. ECHHHH! Later
  15. Frayed Knot wrote: "Partial tear" of UCL on Tanaka. Rest & rehab for now, TJ surgery possible. Listened during his last game. Ma and Pa Pinstripe were saying that in Japan, Tanaka only pitched every seven days. He had been pitching every five or six days with the Yanks, and this was his second start on a four day rotation. Suzyn said his arm looked "tired". It was on radio, so I can't describe what Suzyn's face looked like. Later
  16. Now we get to find out who plays shortstop when they pinch hit for Tejada. Later

Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: In all seriousness, Paul Lukas took a break from insulting members of the armed forces to bemoan the new All-Star Game caps to say: "Is this really the cap anyone wants to see Derek Jeter wearing in his final ASG?" http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/10001610/uni-watch-proliferation-camouflage-unis I don't take it as an insult to members of the military as much as it questions if camo unis are a valid tribute, and are being overused to the point of becoming trite. Later
  18. Omar Quintanilla threw a scoreless inning for Las Vegas the other night. We always knew he hit like a pitcher. Later
  19. He was off to a fast start this year in more ways than one. According to the NY Post, he got arrested for drag racing. I guess he misunderstood what it is to be "fast tracked". Later
  20. Its weird seeing the name Jerry Hinsley. I remember him being called Jerry Dean Hinsley. Later
  21. Edgy MD wrote: Tack-on runs are just among the most beautiful things on earth. Tejada! Later
  22. 49 pitches through 3 innings? Just throw strikes, kid. The bullpen's been very busy lately. Give them a break. Later
  23. If they're going to give me a free Jeff Wilpon gift, they're going to have to give me something else to even out the deal. Later

    Cyclones

seawolf17 wrote: Spent the afternoon at Coney Island and caught the first five innings of Cyclones/Ironbirds before heading home. The Ironbirds scored sixteen runs in the first five and won 18-2. The Cyclones had five errors but they could easily have been credited with at least eight (we saw three uncredited misplays just in the five innings). It was ugly. Wasn't it Seinfeld night? Was he there? Later
  25. That was clever. Is that a song parody? What song? I was thinking Me and Julio Down By the School Yard, but got off track. Later
