  1. You never know what's going to happen with the penciled-in starters. He'll shuttle between relief and starter roles. 8-7 3.47 47 games. Later
  2. The only thing that may be more repulsive than a flat-cap-wearing MFY fan-type punk is the cap-to-the-side-with-upturned-brim face-making type punk. He has no place on my team (or my planet, for that matter). Later
  3. Great guy, but I think the productivity will take a downturn. .235 - 17- 50 in 120 games. Later
  4. ... just say it's because it puts the players at ease. In Flores' case, being at ease is worth a lot, and it means he may have a higher ceiling than the raw numbers indicate. As I said, the more he plays, the more comfortable he gets, and I feel, the better he does. That BP writer seems to agree. Later
  5. Let him have his one fucking Charley Pride moment already, then forget about this folly. Later
  6. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Harv was probably out too late snorting coke off a model's ass in his Escalade last night. What do you mean "probably"? The video has gone viral. Later
  7. About David Wright- if he is on the DL from day 1 of the regular season, is his salary covered by the insurance policy as a continuation of last years' end of season DL stint? Or does the clock have to start (before insurance kicks in) all over again? Later
  8. It just seems like yesterday when they picked him in the Rule V Draft, then kept him on the major league roster as a reliever all season. He was pretty good that year. Then, (it was said) they would be able to send him to AAA to re-stretch him out as a starter. He's not good enough as a starter to replace any of their top tier starters or prospects. And he hasn't blossomed as a lights out short reliever, either. He doesn't seem to be as advanced as they might have thought he'd be, so I see him bouncing up and down between the majors and AAA until he can prove himself in one role or the other. Or until they find somebody better. Later
  9. Some of us have bigger antennae than others. Later
  10. d'Kong76 wrote: I have to re-read the thread over the weekend but really this speeding up the game thing (to me) is somewhat of a mirage created by the marketing people at MLB that think they need to make the game more attractive to people who don't like base- ball as much as they'd like. Stop fucking with the game. . Beautiful, man. You could have stopped right there, and we would have stood up and saluted. Later
  11. Frayed Knot wrote: And not once during that entire time did his left arm even come off the rail where it was resting pre-aerial assault. Not as it was flying towards him, not as he was snagging it, not as he was casually tossing it back whence it came. Derek Jeter would have hid behind Joe Torre. Later
  12. That's really scary. We're within one year of age (I'm older), both Diabetic and I've been taking Kidney medication for years. I wish him well. Later
  13. Too early to predict. I'll revisit this thread once the health of Wright and Duda become clearer. I guess the new slash lines don't take at bats into account, so I'll say .275/ .320/ .465. But his numbers improve the more he plays regularly and decline when he is jerked in and out of the lineup. Later
  14. Gelbs is in midseason form. Later
  15. He seems to be Rafael Montero lite. Good, but not overpowering stuff. Can he find decent control as he rises through the organization? He'll get a chance to prove he can at Las Vegas. But I don't think he'll even get a cuppa' with the big club this year. Later
  16. 41 saves, 2.23 ERA after his (hopefully only) 30 game suspension. Later
  17. He has a career BA of around .255, including last year's apparent outlier .335 at Binghamton. Maybe he just "got it" at 23, but it will take a repeat (or close) to those number before I see him above AAA this year. Also - I recall reading that he didn't draw his first walk until close to mid season last year (maybe hyperbole on the part of the writer, maybe not). One thing in his favor. Judging from his fielding pct., he plays third base pretty well. Later

I may have been on a third grade playground the first time I heard a version of that line. (boner was a "naughty" word back then) But it still makes me laugh. Later
  19. Vic Sage wrote: But i'm pretty sure that only one of those Newmans has a top 40 single. short people got no reason short people got no reason short people got no reason to live..... He wrote another one (my fingers start to cramp in anticipation of typing this) I Love L.A. Grandma Luba and Grandpa Michael were able to say, "My son Irving, the Doctor". Later
  20. Can't speak for everyone, but I do. Later
  21. Centerfield wrote: SIGN KELLY JOHNSON. I think that ship has passed In 2013 and 2016 he was pretty inconsistent, only hot when the weather was. In 2014 he was awful. In 2015 he was consistent the whole year. Its time to let him fade into Mets history. Of course, he does hit lefty, and has played first base, so ..... ah, I don't know. Later
  22. Minor league meal money will help him reduce that butt. 10 non-crucial appearances in the majors (after 45-50 games at AAA), with a 4.60 ERA. Options, smoptions. If he gets claimed on waivers, no biggie. Later
  23. Oh yeah. The Tet Offensive. That's something that we should really "celebrate" about 1968. Later
  24. If they want to speed up the game, why not just enforce a rule that is already on the books? According to this NYT article, there is a rule that limits the time between pitches to 20 seconds. IIRC Charlie Finley installed such a clock at Municipal Stadium in KC when his A's played there. MLB made him take it down. It was one of the ideas mentioned in the article, but at least he had ideas. http://www.nytimes.com/1986/05/20/sports/scouting-the-pastime-according-to-charlie-o.html I wonder if the rule is still on the books, but is ignored?
