  7. I always root for the National League team to win the World Series. I will this year, too, even though they play in the American League. Go Astros! Later
  8. Thankfully, so did the MFYs. I meant after the game. Later
  9. I hope they announce their choice late Saturday night or Sunday morning, to steal headlines and column inches from the MFYs (no matter the outcome of tonight's game) Later
  10. This isn't for OUR Autumn. This is an Eternal struggle, for all mankind. BTW- who's Bruce? Later

He lasted 10, 4, 6, and 2 seasons at his four stops. During that time, I'd be willing to bet that we have seen more TV close-ups of him, as in REALLY close, than we have seen of all the other managers combined. At least during that time, he has gone from spitting sunflower seeds to chewing on a toothpick. Its less disgusting. Later
  12. 41Forever wrote: Looks like Dusty Baker is suddenly available. Just like he has been available each time he has been let go, or not rehired, by a major league team. There must be reasons. And they might be different, or the same, at each stop along the way. Pass. Later
  13. 3-0 Houston in the 5th. Later

There's a picture of two youngins holding up a placard that says, 'HEROES GET REMEMBERED BUT LEGENDS NEVER DIE!' -- whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean. They're like 5 years old. Sad. There was an opinion piece in one of the papers today about what the writer would do if we get an NY-LA World Series. I'm still hoping against hope it won't happen, but if it happens I'll post it. It was barfaricious. Later
  17. 7-0 LA in the third with Kershaw pitching with that lead. Looks like that's all she wrote, boys and girls. The nightmare is getting closer. Later

  19. And Yahoo sports is reporting that the Red Sox will name Alex Cora as their new manager. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/report-alex-cora-named-red-192217338.html Sigh. Later

  21. A "Phil Regan win", where a reliever gives up the run that ties the score, then picks up the victory when his team scores the winning run(s). Also referred to as a Vultured win.(which was Phil Re gan's nickname) Later

  23. Frayed Knot wrote: And if they could pay at least part of his contract because Wright retires, that would be a win-win. Plus, he's got that local guy thing going for him (Toms River, NJ). I'd be for that. [?]So basically, David Wright is going to say to the Mets: 'Y'know that money you owe me, I'd much rather you give it to Todd Frazier instead.'[/?] No. Two independent events. But the first would make the second easier on the overall team budget and allow spending on other needs. Yes, I know insurance would kick in at some point. That's why I said "at least part". But it would also free up the roster spot come draft time.(As detailed in other threads) And, if he retires, it would address the potential arguments of "why sign him? David could still come back." But if Flores could play a full (healthy) season and develop his defense at third, that would be even better. Later
