An inch or two in either direction and the ball hits Kinsler and he's possibly headed home. As we first heard when we were kids, all together now,"Baseball is a game of inches". Later

  5. Edgy MD wrote: How so? I mean, he clearly wouldn't represent deGrom (or Syndergaard or Céspedes) anymore. Any kickback he'd get if he signed one of 'em to an overly generous contract would clearly be illegal and hard to hide. Aside from my attempt at humor, his firm still would. Are those players (or some of them) still under contract with that firm? IMO, it would be like when Dick Cheney left Halliburton to become VP. Then, three major NO BID contracts were awarded to Halliburton when Desert Storm started. It might not happen overtly. And every time as GM he signed a player represented by that firm instead of another player, the fans, and the press, would have a concern. Any decision by a GM is subject to scrutiny. Why add another level of concern? I'd pick someone else. Later
  6. Hiring the agent for one of your (star) players is like hiring Bonnie and Clyde to guard your bank. Later
  7. HahnSolo wrote: I wish I knew a bit more about Ng. I know where she’s worked, but what’s her expertise? What is she best known for? Contracts? Personnel? Scouting? From Page 1 of this thread: by MFS62 » Mon Aug 06, 2018 9:00 pm Here's a candidate that checks off a lot of boxes. 1) Front Office administrative experience 2) MLB/ Commissioner's office experience. 3) "Minority" candidate (TWO EEO boxes checked) 4) Fred Wilpon's love for everything Dodgers 5) Highly respected 6) Probably will take a low salary to just get a chance 7) Has been discussed here before Only thing is, not much experience in the player part of the job. A candidate worthy of serious consideration? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Ng Hope that helps. Later

  12. bmfc1 wrote: I voted for Boston. Normally I'd select the NL team but the Dodgers annoy me, especially Bellinger. And they have Utley. Every BOS success upsets MFY fans so there's the schadenfreude factor (why isn't that a game show?). I'd rather watch a Scottsdale Scorpions game but this is all we have at the moment. This, except "annoy" is too mild. Later
  13. I usually would root for the National League team in the World Series. But this time I'll pass, and wait for some Mets news. Later
  14. All other contests pale by comparison. How did you get Rambo to show up? I thought he was on a book tour. Later
  15. Baseball's been eating those worms for a long time. One of the radio talking heads said John McGraw would warm up two pitchers prior to a World Series game and decide on the starter just before the first pitch. Later
  16. G-Fafif wrote: Drew Gagnon became the first Mets pitcher to drive in a run with a sac fly in his MLB debut. What can be said about Jose Bautista? Jose Bautista was acquired by the Mets on July 30, 2004 and traded away the same day. I agree with Blevins about not liking Field of Dreams. But my friends and I would say,"Let's go out and have a catch". Not what he said. What should I know about Luis Guillorme? Later

  19. Ceetar wrote: There are others, i think they're doing more this week and I can't tell if the rumors of a "candidate we don't know" were subsequently leaked or not. The free agent fishing season starts when the World Series ends. They can't do diddley squat (no pictures of Bo Diddley, please) without a GM. They'd better make a decision quickly, or it will be an off season of frustration as free agents sign elsewhere. Later
  20. Centerfield wrote: But the Mets are not entertaining candidates from any of the big hitters. Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Cubs. Now, there could be a million different reasons for this. Ng worked for L.A. before joining the MLB office. Later
  21. Ceetar wrote: of course the Marlin is humping the M. probably giving it herpes too. Or at least a gift basket. What? No "the immovable sculpture in the Marlins' outfield was Giancarlo Stanton" jokes? Later OE: I was typing my comment when FK posted his. Great minds think alike.
  22. A player the MFYs gave up on doing well for the Mets would be fun. I'd have to find out more about whether he was hurt or it was a "can't handle New York" kind of thing. But an interesting idea. Later
  23. Copying the Brooklyn Dodger Sym-phony at Ebbets Field. Later
  24. Tuned in mid-game, mid sentence, and the radio guy was saying something about Justin Turner having the third best post-season OPS in history behind Lou Gehrig and someone else (I forget who). Anybody else hear that and can confirm it? Later
  25. Got home too late for the ceremonial first pitch by Bob Uecker. Was it just a bit outsiiiiide? Later
