  2. Just my comment based on a consulting gig I did for the Vanderbilt Estate in Asheville (the Biltmore) a few years ago. They wanted some ideas about turning the place from an attraction to a destination. We teamed with some consultants who had done similar work for Disney. Not saying the same factors we uncovered wouldn't play in Nashville (see what I did there?), but they could. As I said, I'd have to see the numbers they ran. Later

  4. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Would be a fun place to roadtrip to That's why I don't think it would be financially successful - it is a tourist destination, too many other things to do in the area. I'm not sure how many tourists going to Nashville to enjoy the music scene would want to spend part of their trip/ vacation at a baseball game. I'd have to see the numbers MLB would run before landing a team there. Later
  5. =whippoorwill post_id=39989 time=1594067214 user_id=79] =batmagadanleadoff post_id=39871 time=1593873185 user_id=68] Name the baseball player who ate seven cheeseburgers during a famous 4th of July MLB game.
  6. The Atlanta Varsity, to pay homage to a restaurant catering to sports fans that has become a city landmark. I ate there before a game at the Ted. It is across the highway from Georgia Tech. https://www.thevarsity.com/locations/detail/1/The_Varsity_Atlantahttps://www.thevarsity.com/locations/detail/1/The_Varsity_Atlanta Some of the best onion rings and chili dogs I ever ate. 7. When you don't have a real event to show, everything is an event. Later

Edgy MD wrote: I didn't feel a particular imperative for the Braves to give up their nickname, or ever the screaming face in their logo, but my wife reminded me that without the name, and the logo, we wouldn't have the stupid, stupid, tomahawk chop. Right as usual, Dear. What came first-- the Tomahawk Chop or the Seminole War Chant? Pretty sure the Braves just ripped off the collegiates on this. The Native Americans were here first. Anything that followed is just copyright infringement by unwanted immigrants. Later
  9. Both correct. Anyone else want to post some? Later
  10. Everyone have a happy and safe 4th of July. Here are some interesting trivia questions: On July 4, 1976, which Phillie lost a grand slam because he passed a runner on the bases, resulting in a 3-run single? What pitcher, primarily known as a reliever, threw a no-hitter on the 4th of July? Later

District of Columbia Craig Anderson. (Okay, that last one doesn't sound quite as cool.) Does Michigan really want to be known for Al Moran - on any list? Later
  13. =G-Fafif post_id=39712 time=1593637372 user_id=55] He's being paid until 2035 for all he didn't do in 2000.
  14. =Ceetar post_id=39694 time=1593629097 user_id=102] Bonilla was intentionally walked 9 times for the 1994 Mets.
  15. According to The Atlantic (dang paywall) the Red Sox have been paying Bruce Sutter for 30 years. Bobby Bo ain't alone. Later
  16. Did we ever find out who those "five players" were? Later

  18. Oh [CROSSOUT]quack[/CROSSOUT] crap! We were looking forward to seeing some AA ball in Hartford this year. Later
  19. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Yes, apparently so! Tim Britton reports that the Mets report to Citi Field on Wednesday for training camp and that Jed Lowrie is still day-to-day (really!). Was is Vegas giving as odds on the race as to who will arrive first, Lowrie, Godot or the Iceman? Later
  20. The Mets have reportedly come to terms with second round draftee JT Ginn for over the slot money. No $ details yet. Later

  22. =Ceetar post_id=39512 time=1593448938 user_id=102] desperate enough to dig into his stats, but I don't really see anything that makes me think most of us will remember Hunter Strickland was a Met in 6 months.
  23. No Tim Tebow on the 45 man roster. Good. Let's end this charade. And the New York Post, as in "All the News that's Shit, They Print" made that their headline when talking about the roster, instead of something about the players who will be on it. They're still trying to keep that flame burning. Later
  24. I agree with LWFS over the overblown importance of Marlo Thomas. On the overrated scale, She was the Derek Jeter of television. Yes, her father was a popular comedian and a great humanitarian and she carried on his tradition of raising money to help sick children. But the public reaction to his daughter when her show was on could have made a billy goat gag. The height of foolishness to me was when she would be the cover story in women's magazines, interviewed for tips on parenting when she had no children. She was put on a media pedestal for no apparent reason. People even overlooked her awful nose job (it was so bad that my wife said Marlo's surgeon should have lost his license). I'll climb down off my soap box now. Later
  25. Looks like that right fielder is going to get a lot of glare and/or have problems finding a fly ball among the girders during day games. Later
