  1. Then what does it have to do with? Later
  2. That comparison is silly. A box score contains facts. Three HPB are three HBP, and will forevermore be counted in official baseball statistics- whether they were intentional or not and whether anyone got injured or not. And my post was an honest and emotional response to it. A movie adaptation may not. If you are telling us that movie adaptations contain factual information, it had nothing to do with the game. My comment about the box score did. Why are you making fun of my post? Are you still an editor and is it part of your DNA? Or haven't you had that job for years? I don't think you should use your post on any future job application as an example of your editorial prowess. It was just some sound and fury. And if you think you were being smart or funny, you weren't. Later

The ump should have warned Darvish after the second hit batter and tossed his ass after the third. Buck should have played the game under protest until MLB reviewed tapes of the game and shown the ump [CROSSOUT]incompetence[/CROSSOUT] non-performance. No offense, but all that is absurd. Two guys got nicked on the foot by breaking balls (I hope Brandon's shoelace is OK) and Pete was hit on the hand mostly because he was swinging at the pitch and rightly shouldn't have even been awarded 1st base. There was ZERO grounds for protest, and what was he going to protest anyway, that three of his guys were awarded 1st? That's more than got on base any other way last night. Throw Darvish out? I'd protest THAT if I were the SD manager.

  6. Chad, that was beautiful, man. and yes, a hearty welcome to m8644. Later
  7. My favorite couldabeen was an infielder named Enrique Cruz. They signed him as an amateur out of the Dominican Republic after he had led his CR league with 47 home runs in around 250 at bats. Let those words sink in 47 home runs in around 250 (IIRC, it was 257) at bats. He played shortstop and I thought that even if he was a grotesque fielder they'd find some place to play him. He never developed as well or as quickly as I had hoped, was selected by another team in the Rule V Draft. He made it to the majors with Milwaukee (60 games in 2003), filtered through the Texas organization and emerged for one game for Cincy in 2007. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cruzen01.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cruzen01.shtml Also, in 1963 MLB held a special draft to help out the expansion teams they had screwed over the year before. In the major league portion the Mets got starter Jack Fisher. we knew what we were getting. But they also drafted a slugging first baseman named Bill Haas, who had torn up two lower level leagues in his first two years. I had high hopes for him and we got bupkis. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=haas--001wilhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=haas--001wil MAN, those scouting reports for both guys looked good. Sigh Later
  8. Since I saw them homer in the same game, I'll pair them as my answer: Victor Diaz and Craig Brazell. Later
  9. The local airport is John Wayne Airport. There's a bigass statue of him in the rotunda. Anybody flying into there (fans and players from visiting teams) can't miss it. A Cowboy-style uniform* paying homage to the big cowpoke would have had a closer connection than to surfing. Later * = not gun related like the Colt 45s, but maybe faux fringe?

Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I like the look of that Angel's set--very much evocative of that 60s surf culture they are trying to emulate-- I just feel it's a stretch to suggest Anaheim is a surfing town If that player hadn't been holding a surfboard, I wouldn't have looked at those unis and thought "surfing". 12. Last night he pitched two hitless innings in his first start since coming back from a brief stint on the IL. That continued his streak of not giving up more than two hits in any game he has pitched. His line for the year is now 8G, 8 GS, 31 IP, 11 H, 19 BB, 51K, 2.90 ERA, .968 WHIP. Later

  14. The extra inning runner is a curiosity that isn't an affront to the sensibilities like the DH. It is an interesting experiment that won't, IMO, effect my enjoyment of a game. It is fair to both teams and is a pleasant change that may bring back fundamental baseball instead of the current boring homer or nothing hitting approach. I'm willing to see more of it for a while. 16. Francisco seems to have made adjustments to the adjustments the pitchers made for him after his blazing start and has rebounded nicely. His numbers are now .274/.342/.514 with 12 2B and 10 HR with 28 RBI in 45 games. Later

  18. =nymr83 post_id=94742 time=1654404301 user_id=54] its LA, they don't need an invitation to leave early
  19. So, you think a guy on the IL couldn't get hurt? Think again. Max Scherzer got bitten by a dog on his (non throwing) hand. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/mets-max-scherzer-suffers-dog-bite-injury-on-non-throwing-hand-191144169.htmlhttps://www.yahoo.com/sports/mets-max-scherzer-suffers-dog-bite-injury-on-non-throwing-hand-191144169.html You can't make this stuff up. 20. Keeping with his philosophy of "one game at a time" (I can't find the link from a few days ago), he will smile when the Mets win the World Series this year. Later
  21. It always seemed (my impression) that the Mets struggled the first time they faced a pitcher. It sounds like this new machine will address that problem. They will have the opportunity to see his stuff before they face him. Or, they'll be able to work on hitting deliveries from pitchers against whom they have struggled. Sounds interesting. Hope it works. Later
  22. =Gwreck post_id=94558 time=1654268905 user_id=56] Phillies fired Joe Girardi. Rob Thomson interim manager.
  23. Going back to watching fly balls hit by Mets batters die at the warning track in Seals Stadium, I recall entire West Coast road trips when Mets hitters couldn't do dick. I hope this isn't going to be one of them. Later
