And I said those options because many Japanese pitchers have slow or deliberate deliveries (I'm not sure if Shohei's is significant enough) and that may have been the edge a speedy runner needed to improve his chances on a steal or making it to third on a hit and run. Later
  2. What got me was Team USA (down 3-2 in the top 9th last night) not trying to move the runner over (steal or hit and run)after the leadoff batter walked. Then you get two shots to tie it up. They wouldn't expect a high salaried All Star like Betts to do something like that. Instead, Betts hits into a DP and Trout strikes out. Japan wins the title. Don't they teach fundies any more? Later
  3. Time for my second annual, prematurely bordering on maturely, panic stricken Spring Training post. They still haven't fucking hit. Later
  4. Edgy MD wrote: Vientos is getting Baby'd into the corner by allayouse. Also, I'm'a not sure why Escobar has now twice been asked to put his glove away in favor of the rook. I'm thinking it could be either giving time to prove he can play third or showcasing him as trade bait. Or both. Or neither. Later
  5. =G-Fafif post_id=120246 time=1679413747 user_id=55] Mrs. Payson sat in a nice box seat, among the fans.
  6. Started and couldn't get through it. I like action. I like sci-fi. I like family stories. But they couldn't make chicken salad from this chopped up chicken. Later

  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Yogi was still a Yankee in 1962. His first association with the Mets came in 1965 when he was briefly a player but also became part of the coaching staff. But you said from the unis this was 1964, so it could have been at the all star game. Later
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I would guess that it was the Mayor's Trophy Game in 1964. It was the only year (in the 1960s anyway) that Berra was with the Yankees and the Mets were at Shea. Could have been at the 1964 All Star game that was played at Shea that year. Yogi was a 1962 Met, but may have been asked back as some sort of honorary AL coach, which would explain his MFY uni. But as I type this, I'm more and more thinking you're probably right. Later
  10. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I didn't see anything in that article that said how old Bubby is. Baseball-Reference says he's 30. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rossmbu01.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rossmbu01.shtml Later
  11. =kcmets post_id=120164 time=1679323942 user_id=53] Haven't been to metsmerized in awhile. Holy pop-up inundation, Batman!
  12. The Mets have signed righty reliever Bubby Rossman (his 99 mph fastball and his orchestra) off the roster of Team Israel. https://metsmerizedonline.com/team-israels-bubby-rossman-signs-with-mets/https://metsmerizedonline.com/team-israels-bubby-rossman-signs-with-mets/ Later
  13. Oh Fuck! Time to blame the new bases. He's holding the back of the leg. Hope its just a cramp and not a hammy.. Later
  14. Other than the Diaz injury, back to what's happening on the Florida diamonds - I know some key players are at the WBC, but the guys left behind haven't hit worth shit. The only ones doing ok are Tomas Nido and Brett Baty. If any of the other regulars should be out for a period off time (gasp!) I have no confidence that these guys can step in and do reasonably well. (This is my annual spring training post) Later
  15. I'm not sayin' he gonna' Wally Pipp the Polar Bear. But there's more than enough at bats for someone who has that kind of power, even if he as to wear a glove only occasionally. By year's end, that WAR figure could be doubled. Later
  16. My Pepitone story: One year during high school, I was a counsellor at a summer camp. One of the six-year-old boys asked me if I thought Joe Pepitone was going to be in the Hall of Fame. I told him that since he had hit under .250 in his only year in the majors, he had a long way to go. Thinking back, I should have tried to turn that MY fan-to-be away from the dark side to the Mets. 17. Latest report says it IS nothing - he'll make his next scheduled start. Later
  18. =metirish post_id=119726 time=1678719135 user_id=72] That's not a lot of Greene backs
  19. I'm liking Omir De Los Santos more and more as a prospect. Later
  20. The first roster cuts of Spring, tra la : the Mets optioned right-handed pitcher José Butto to Triple-A Syracuse while sending four pitchers (right-handers Connor Grey, Grant Hartwig, Eric Orze, and left-hander Josh Walker), catcher Kevin Parada, and outfielder Alex Ramírez to minor league camp as their spring roster decreases to 55 players. https://metsmerizedonline.com/mets-make-first-round-of-cuts-saturday-night/https://metsmerizedonline.com/mets-make-first-round-of-cuts-saturday-night/ Later
  21. When I heard this I thought it was because the baseballs used in Japan are a different size than those used in the US. And I thought if the US ball is larger, then he could have stretched the ligament trying to throw his forkball. But the US ball is smaller than the Japanese baseball, so I don't think that was the cause and this won't be an issue going forward. Later
  22. Youngest of the three Alou brothers who manned the outfield together vs the Mets in 1963. I remember that game. The fans in the outfield started yelling, "Hey, Alou! Which Alou are YOU?" RIP Later
  23. These guys are gone, but not forgotten. Their careers hang on for one more year on somebody's Strat-O-Matic card. Later
  24. He didn't show up for his court appearance. A New York Mets prospect angered a Syracuse judge last week by not showing up for a scheduled court appearance. The player's lawyer tried to explain the circumstances behind the player's absence but the judge didn't agree. When told that Mets' minor leaguer, Khalil Lee was in Florida at Spring Training, City Court Judge Ann Magnarelli responded, "I don't care that he is a Syracuse Mets player," according to Anne Hayes of syracuse.com. The court appearance stems from a May 7, 2022 incident where Lee is accused of domestic violence by an ex-girlfriend. https://wibx950.com/ixp/78/p/mets-prospect-a-court-no-show-syracuse-judge-threatens-warrant/?utm_source=tsmclip&utm_medium=referralhttps://wibx950.com/ixp/78/p/mets-prospect-a-court-no-show-syracuse-judge-threatens-warrant/?utm_source=tsmclip&utm_medium=referral Later
  25. That https://twitter.com/Mets/status/1632144638323884038second one nearly cleared the batters' eye at the Marlins spring training park. Quite a shot. He "pops it in the air to enter field"?? What game was he watching? Later
