  1. Only huskey wore 42 (Also 10) so wasn't ever a 32
  2. =G-Fafif post_id=100702 time=1658606844 user_id=55] DVB will wear 32 if the nameplate above his locker isn't lying.
  3. I get it. I don't see anyone else getting a statue or a street named after them any time soon. Right. And for now, even though much is changing, it's actually the dawn, of that day in 1988, and lasted until 2016--or a period almost half of that of the entire lifetime of the franchise, where the only guy who achieved the "super premium" highest-ever level... is Tom Seaver. Who it oughta be.
  4. I'm a little confused. I like the idea that statues are the new retired numbers. That's a novel yet interesting thought. Where I'm mixed up is the part about the Mets Hall of Fame. Is inclusion there also analogous with a Met having his number retired? Because it's way easier for a Met to get into the Mets Hall than to have his number retired. And way easier to get your number retired than to get a statue. So if I'm reading this correctly, and I many not be, I don't see how the Mets HOF is the equivalent of a Mets statue. It's not. It's just that, there were 2 levels (either, Hall of Fame, or Number Retirement), and that, more or less concurrent with the establishment of a super-premium third level: Statue, that the Mets also realized that guys who previously had "topped out" at what now is the lowest of 3 levels, actually, are being "promoted" to the next level, which was previously the top level. So their numbers are retired, but they don't get a Statue. And that means, or* *could* mean, that *everyone* in the Hall of Fame now, is essentially a candidate to be one day, "promoted" themselves and have their numbers retired. Because Koos and Mex were, only to discover, there was still another level.
  5. Sure. But the Mets haven't been able to consistently score runs for a while now, and I'm still glad they did something different even while I might already expect they paid too high a price. At the risk of sounding like a certain former president "what else do they have to lose."
  6. Lefty Specialist wrote: Hitting .150 this year, which is actually below his .175 career average. Oy. I pointed out, and a guy confronted me, with this: His career OPS of .550 is higher than that of both Nido and Mazeika. The same is true of his 2022 OPS of .526. McCann barely edges him out with .543. That was here by the way, where I'm obviously still pursuing this "baseball disruption" thing that's been happening in my head: https://www.mbtn.net/?p=3545https://www.mbtn.net/?p=3545
  7. What an abject humiliating performance for the Bosox. Gurriel initially seems to be resigned to have flown out, but when he knew he was mistaken he busts it. Duran makes a mistake that's a nightmare for any outfielder but you see it happen sometimes. His reaction is to sit there. That makes the game 10-0, and Jays go on to score 18 more runs. It was also a Big Game for the SHoX and the SHue Jays. Sox had a team they knew that they had to beat, at home, first game after the break following a disappointing first half. Their best guy was on the mound. Jays obviously have one of the most dangerous clubs on earth but they started the second half also out of the playoffs and knew they too needed a boost. Baseball being what it is, the massively divergent paths they begin on will probably end up less meaningful than we think. But geez, imagine how it feels this morning to be a SHoX fan or a SHue Jays fan
  8. The Red sox organist on Twitter remarks, the Sox' 18,825- game streak of allowing fewer than 28 runs in a game is now over.final score is 28-5
  9. Eggo hit it it hard, but wrong spot. So here it is Cahna Banana for the whole Magilla
  10. He was quite excellent even earning himself two stints on the CPFs best Fantasy Baseball Team, the FU Yankee Blue Jeans. You gotta figure it would not be long before the club makes a trade to replace him, because when he was here he was good. I mean a good trade for the Pirates where he's expected now to start really scoring some points for the FU Yankee Blue Jeans, so really a great trade all around
  11. He's one of those guys who's like, even his hair is fat
  12. Zimmo Marte Lindor Alonso McNeil Escobar Guillorme BLANKENHORN DH Nido That 8-9? That's pretty SHaMmy, right there.
  13. Well here we are, and the lineup is posted, for SHaM opening day! Here's something. It's Darvish against Scherzer, and Travis Blankenhorn is the DH, who replaces Dom "maybe we should traded him sooner after all" Smith.
  14. =Ceetar post_id=100571 time=1658493099 user_id=102] true of literally every pitcher though.
  15. I have to say that I admire Mushnick's ability to say things so out of touch in a way that also relays that he believes what he says
  16. He still may as well not exist, till he's on the mound and pitching in a real game that counts. And even then, after continuing to get hurt, suddenly and mysteriously, for 2 years or more, who will ever trust that if that day comes, that it lasts? Cuz me, I just don't anymore. But my opinion means shit, of course. It's what the organization makes of it. And I believe they too need to pretend that deGrom is no longer a relevant member of its plans, just a sort of a lottery ticket in a drawer somewhere and they don't recall when the numbers get drawn. And act like that is the case, whether they say it or not.
  17. I liked the part when Winn Hawkins sold his truck right there on the lot for a fraction of what it was worth, then, laid every dollar down on himself, beat up a bodyguard, AND won the arm wrestling tournament, which not only won him the big bet, but the love of his estranged son!
  18. =kcmets post_id=100442 time=1658353747 user_id=53] The latest buzz I heard is that the extra day off after the all-star break still sucks bhmc.
  19. Who knows. One of the things Ive adjusted to as a fan, over the years is the idea that when athletes get hurt, especially pitchers, anticipation of when or if they ever come back is such a waste of energy, and that it's just better to imagine that they have been traded away or died. I was reminded of this the other day when Wayne on the broadcast said ".. and Trevor May is expected back soon.." and it occurred to me I'd nearly forgotten we ever even had him. It's also why I've been keeping up the Luis Castillo Watch.
  20. My interpretation of the little i'd read about this Parada Palooka, is that he's just a hitter who happens to play catcher
  21. With Blade and Jett, the Mets might actually have mistakenly thought this was the American Gladiators draft
  22. https://theathletic.com/news/all-star-game-home-run-derby/4iPWxhiKJmLK/https://theathletic.com/news/all-star-game-home-run-derby/4iPWxhiKJmLK/ Just seeing this. Allegedly, if tomorrow's game ends in a tie, it will be settled by a home run derby? If we didn't all of us suspect, this is actually an experiment disguised as a show, I'd almost be okay with it vs other lame solutions, maybe? But nobody trusts baseball.
  23. =Methead post_id=100200 time=1658178555 user_id=61] I'd like to extend a warm welcome to 10th round selection Zebulon Vermillion.
