Lou Piniella? Clyde King? Gene Michael? Dick Hoswer? Bob Lemon? Tommy Lasorda? Jeff Torborg? Tony LaRussa? Tom Treblehorn?
  2. I think since the clincher Willie has decided to pull a Billy Martin and just draw random lineups out of a hat!
  3. Not to mention the little detail the "ARod comes up small in the big games" folks tend to overlook: ARod was part of a systematic failure of the entire MFY offense in both the 2004 ALCS after Game 3 and the 2005 ALDS against the Angels
  4. Ahhh, love that bottle! Shame it comes from SF and not NY or Chicago (setting of the Untouchables of course)
  5. ="Edgy DC"]I have no doubt that he'd be playing if it was playoff time, but would he be playing well? Paul O'Neill, by the way, invented playing hurt in the playoffs. O'Neill gets a Lifetime Achievement Award for playing same day his father dies! Different strokes or whatever gets you through of course, (not to mention the difference between a handfull of games left in a year as opposed to right in the middle of the season or something) but I've seen O'Neill's situation used to bash Barry Bonds taking a few weeks off after Bobby Bonds' passing

  7. I could have sworn I heard on ESPN Radio that we've got the New Orleans Zyphers
  8. RealityChuck wrote: ="NYGAMEUSED"]The insertion I made has nothing to do with the questions you ask. I stated it was a collectin hobby yet you keep referring to the business aspect of it. I dont understand why you can't comprehend the difference between someone just collecting something and a business saleSo? You haven't given any evidence that the hobby existed, either. I'm merely suggesting evidence that would prove it did, but if you can come up with something else, that's great: the name of a 19th century collector, for instance. Or any document from the time (e.g., a private letter) that talks about getting a "game-used jersey." Let's see some proof. You made an assertion, but keep changing the subject whenever I ask you to back it up. Chuck, Barry Halper once had a collection of GU jerseys of EVERY HOFer, that means even Pud Galvin, Billy Hamilton, Hoss Radbourn, Al Spaulding, ect Does that mean there were dealers back then or Barry bought them from family/estates who knows, but there is a reason those keepsakes were kept
  9. ="Frayed Knot"]This "backing in" stuff is mostly nonsense. If a team really suxx down the stretch and gets in the playoffs only because other teams suck even more, then THAT'S backing in. But it's NOT if the mathematical moment of clinching comes via a persuer's loss simply due to the order and timing involved . Yup. Just something to snicker at for a day, but not a true judgement of a season Especially when it will be long forgotten come October
  10. Very true, especially from the Knights In The Pressbox
  11. Either JD is getting them confused with the late Barry Halper who was a minority partner in the original Steinbrenner purchasing group or he has heard Brandon Steiner mention that he is in fact a Yankee fan
  12. cooby wrote: ]I never said thats the kind of return you will get back from Watson or Warthen just stating a fact the memorabilia can go up pretty nicely in value So it's kinda a bait 'n' switch Uh no, just a come on for someone to buy the merchandise. A bait and switch would be saying "I got this GU Jones jersey" and it turns out to be Chris Jones, not Cleon Jones
  13. NYGAMEUSED wrote: some even buy the Jerseys because they have the same last name I don't see myself picking up a Rogers #73 for very obvious reasons! Got any Expos Rogers from the late 70's-early 80's? =
  14. Oh and most of the stuff would be exactly what you can find at this guy's place. GU stuff (sometimes autoed actually) like BP and ST jerseys, bats and whatnot from "nobody" players BTW, I don't see the words GUARANTEE anywhere, just "they do go up in value" I.e. that 2001 or 2002 Jose Reyes GU ST jersey has probably gone up a very big percentage since 2002 But a 2002 GU ST jersey of a AAA player who would never spend a day in the majors, will not go up in value, just a pretty spiffy piece of Met memorabillia (and pretty cheap as well if you don't mind the unknown name on the back)
  15. BTW, the Mets used to have an actual Game Used kiosk on the Field Level at Shea. I wonder if they still sell such memorabillia at the Team Store
  16. NYGAMEUSED wrote: ="SteveJRogers"]BTW, I'm pretty sure the "impossiblities" are Spring Training gear, clearly not marked as such in order to get a higher mark up price, such as Benito Santiago I found this post pretty interesting - If you can read I do state in each description if it is a Batting Practice or Spring Training by putting "BP" or "ST". I would also assume you would want to see the item before you purchase it which would clearly tell you what kind of Jersey it is and would SO CALLED PREVENT ME FROM MARKIING IT UP - unless you just by things without looking at them!!! Okay, I meant in generally, you're right I quickly glanced in order to answer someone's post saying that it was "impossible" for you to have it.
  17. ="Edgy DC"]Can a batting practice jersey be "game-used"? Actually yeah it can fit the definition as they double as Spring Training jerseys
  18. ]You guys can love everything I do, as far as being called a spammer I have to laugh at that!!! I just found this site as I mentioned, I do sell Mets Game Used items, so since I found this METS site wouldnt this be a great place to post items you have that might interest the members. How else would you have liked me to post? True you did not provide a link in your post to your ebay store or online store. But advertzing your wares is the definition of spamming, especially if its the first post you ever do on a board. If you imbedded it in the midst of your post about something, then it'd be different. I.e. "Boy those clubhouse gear looks neat this year...blah blah blah...Hey FYI I have my own memorabilia shop online, and a spot on ebay..." Or even if you posted in the Ebay Babules thread (you'd have to search for it, I think its now somewhere on the 4th or 5th page of the main forum)
  19. BTW, I'm pretty sure the "impossiblities" are Spring Training gear, clearly not marked as such in order to get a higher mark up price, such as Benito Santiago
  20. ="Valadius"]I love how the dude just singled FK out for no reason. I also love the super-frequent spelling errors and obvious impossibilities in terms of merchandise. Well FK sniffed him out as a spammer. Clearly the guy needs to know about RMPL! on this forum
  21. I like how this spammer is having give and take, most spammers just post once and thats it BTW, I have a game used Steve J. Rogers # 1 Scarsdale Raiders baseball pullover shirt, worn as a manager/statistician for the 1994 season. Wonder how much that is worth? =
  22. Edgy DC wrote: A guy retires and makes the Hall of Fame, I can't see the Yankees or their supporters failing to underscore his tenure with them as the defining part of his career. The guy at one point threatened to boycott his own Hall of Fame ceremony if his image didn't have a Yankee cap. I'm not so sure about that though. I'll give you that with Dave Winfield, but time will tell. I think the way he left still has something to do with it, Yankee cap or not. I don't think MFY fans or supporters will be clamoring for the Yankee logo on Rickey Henderson's cap!
  23. ="Frayed Knot"]Some NYY fans have a tendancy to credit Munson for the years he would have had had his career (and life) not ended so tragically - and then judge his H-o-F credentials with the tacked-on career numbers those years would have provided. But, of course, you can't do that for so many reasons, not the least of which is that Thurman was already sliding downhill offensively and had wrecked knees to the point where his catching days were likely over anyway. Don't forget the usual Yankee HOF credential of "Well look how many rings he has" as well as his MVP and ASG apperances I have a feeling there are still lingering resentments of those who put Johnny Bench over Thurman Munson as well! I think I can sum up the Martin fandom with the fact that they had "Man On The Street" interviews with fans on the Martin tribute video and one featured a man with an eye bandage saying he loved how Billy was a fighter and said that made Billy the same as one of them, cause as you could see he (the fan) was also a fighter Same reason MFY fans always loved David Wells and never truely took to Roger Clemens (his un-retiring should kill any chance of him having anything warmer than a tempid "Yeah you were an all time great player" response at Yanqui Stadium ever again)
  24. Word! I am awaiting the day MFY fans make the argument that Jorge Posada belongs in the Hall based on being better overall than Thurman Munson! Actually check that, I've been starting to hear such arguments made!
