  1. 1. I sure hope MLB has better camera angles than SNY because those were really lacking. 2. This is absolute crap by MLB. They need to explain what they are seeing.

  3. Lindor SS Taylor RF Nimmo LF Martinez DH Alonso 1B Iglesias 3B McNeil 2B Alvarez C Bader CF Manaea P This is the first time since September 2020 that Alonso has been lower than 4th in the lineup.
  4. Edgy MD wrote: The Mets would be fools if they don't send their three starters for the Rockies series directly there from Anaheim to spare them the brutal turnaround. This was addressed during the SNY broadcasts this weekend (I admittedly forget which game). They are sending Severino ahead to Denver for Tuesday's game but not the starters for Wednesday and Thursday; the training/sports science staff recommended spending less time at the high altitude of Denver than more.
  5. 3 games of the last 4 have been pretty crappy for our Mets. Not good
  6. Changing the call on the field before going to review is an odd process.
  7. Wait. Why did the Mets get a second challenge?
  8. Once again MLB failing everyone by not providing an explanation for the replay decision.
  9. McNeil very confident when he came up that the replay should overturn it.
  10. Marlins defeat Braves, Pittsburgh is up on Arizona. A win would be key tonight.
  11. That runner shouldn't have scored on that play.
  12. Reyes singles, Cameron walks, Floyd homers.
  13. Best part is Marlon blowing the bubble as he rounds second base.
  14. 6:40 is a positively lovely time to start a game on an August Saturday night if you live in Seattle. This is a trip where the Mets should set the floor at 6 wins. Given the quality of opponent, more should be possible, but 6 is the minimum of what they need to stay in this wild card race.
  15. A medical concern so the Reds took Dilson Herrera instead.
  16. In review: Quintana, Severino, Manaea, Blackburn, Peterson, Butto Diaz, Maton, Brazoban, Stanek, Ottavino, plus at least one lefty (Alex Young, Danny Young, Matt Gage). Open question if the last spot goes to Zuber or a second lefty. Megill probably back to AAA, along with whichever of the lefties don't stick. Dedinel Nunez, Garrett, and Reid-Foley all potentially coming back from injury too.

I mean to suggest that recounting failed outcomes from past years isn't particularly instructive to what is the wisest move to do today. Not to me, anyhow. That's water over the dam, under the bridge, down the toilet, and passed on through other places water goes to. It would be more relevant, perhaps, if we compared the decisions they made in past years — along with those moves' outcomes and ultimate impacts — to decisions they may or may not make in 2024. Ok, sure. There's a few books that could be (have been?) written about that history. But given that history, you don't think there's at least some added imperative to try to win in years when they're already set up for the potential success, as evidenced by actual concrete wins?
  18. It's unclear how exactly Blackburn would be an upgrade over Tylor Megill, let alone David Peterson.

  20. Edgy MD wrote: I believe in the Mets I got. Nice sentiment, but the Mets have 9 playoff appearances in their 63 seasons of existence. It's long past time to upgrade the team given that these chances don't come around very much. Go get Flaherty and Tanner Scott.

  22. Edgy MD wrote: It was actually Gelbs introducing the stretching-out thesis. Didn't mean to shortchange Steve. Only listening via radio here so either Howie came up with it independently or needs to a better job with attribution.
  23. Howie speculating (and I agree) this may be part of stretching Butto out for a return to the rotation.
  24. Leading 10 runs is a very odd time to be using a key bullpen weapon (Butto).
