  1. ="Iubitul"]Why? If the Cards score enough to make the Mets bat in the ninth, Wagner isn't pitching another inning any way... Yes, but my thought was that if the Cards scored enough to tie/lead, Wagner would've been pulled before that happened and we'd have burned him and another reliever getting there.
  2. Great fun at Shea tonight. Best crowd of the postseason so far. First pitch was Matt Dillon. Maybe they'll use Tim Robbins tomorrow? Was disappointed that Willie didn't double switch when he brought Wagner in. Pitcher's spot wsa due up first in the bottom of the 9th. He should've taken Valentin out and switched in Anderson Hernandez, our best defensive infielder (except perhaps Reyes). Bradford again got up in a real hurry in the 5th when Maine was facing Spiezio. If they were going to bring him in to face Pujols if a runner was on, they should've been prepared a lot quicker -- Bradford didn't start throwing until after Eckstein was retired. It's not like they didn't know who was batting next. Strange. Reyes took the curtain call, as the Jose-Jose-Jose-Jose chant continued long after the homer. Curtain call for a solo homer in the 1st was a risky proposition (ie. inviting a pitch to the rear end), I thought. Let's go Mets!
  3. I'm bringing the CPF mojo to Shea. Let's GO METS!
  4. Could Green be hurt? He's looked particularly bad going after the balls these last few days -- worse than in the DS, worse than at Shea, worse than I've seen him since he came to the Mets in late August.
  5. Valentin 1 R Hernandez 1 Mota 1 Bradford .5
  6. Somebody needs to pound a fastball into Albert's backside. This is where I miss Duaner especially. Pedro would've done it too.

  9. I think Seattle is the most likely landing spot for this pitcher. Word from Seattle is that ownership has already comitted to personally put up the "bidding money" out of their own pockets as a special expense, separate from the team payroll budget. In that scenario, I think only Steinbrenner could/would potentially outbid them.
  10. 0-2 in the regular season as well, both times getting him to ground out (into a key DP in the 8/22 game). I don't think I'd lift Wagner or Heilman for Bradford if Pujols was up in a critical spot, but any other reliever, sure.

  12. Willets Point wrote: ="Gwreck"] Games 1/5: Oliver Perez No that's just not going to happen. On a related topic, do we have ANY other starting pitchers to add to the WS roster? Bannister? Pelfrey? Soler? The Mets just seem to be short a starting pitcher. I didn't say it was going to happen; it's just how it sets up. As discussed elsewhere, they can add Orlando Hernandez or Dave Williams to the roster by subtracting any player. (This also applies to Royce Ring, but he's not a starter). Adding Bannister, Pelfrey or Soler would require removing a player currently on the roster (read: Trachsel) due to injury.
  13. Yancy Street Gang wrote: If the Mets advance to the World Series, hopefully the rotation will work out so that Perez doesn't get more than one start. With the rainout today, the rotation for the WS sets up like this: Games 1/5: Oliver Perez Games 2/6: Glavine Games 3/7: Maine Game 4: ?? If Perez starts NLCS Game 7, he would move to the WS Game 4 slot. Clearly this would be subject to roster changes (El Duque? Williams?) and whoever starts NLCS Game 7, if necessary.
  14. I wouldn't necessarily mind seeing Williams and El Duque added to the roster. Drop Trachsel and Hernandez. No need for the extra player, with the DH in 4 of the 7 games.
  15. A minute too slow. Great minds, blah blah blah...
  16. ="metirish"]So then if El Duque is ready do they need to drop a pitcher to get him on the roster? No. They can just drop A. Hernandez if they want. Anyone who was on the 25-man as of Aug. 31 can be moved on/off without a problem. Anyone who was on the 40-man (but not 25-man) and isn't already on the roster needs an injury to get on.
  17. ...but for the WS (continuing the discussion from above) they don't even need to claim an injury for Williams to replace Trachsel.

  19. Two drinks, Gwreck? I was holding Steve's because he was taking the picture.

  21. After the '05 season, I'd have said that David Wright was on his way to being a Mets captain. After this year, I'd say that Reyes would be more appropriate captain.
  22. At this point, there's really no reason to not have LoDuca out of this game.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: It's just a soccer-style chant where they sing 'Jose' over and over again. It's been going on much of the year at Shea, at first when prompted by the PA system and then later on it started popping up spontaneously. Thought it was the other way around. In the playoffs, the PA system has been catching up with the fans, rather than the other way around.
