  1. Really? Bay, Beltran, Wright and Reyes are all very good-to-excellent players. If healthy and playing (reasonably) well, the Mets should be ok.
  2. This April against the Dodgers. Mets won both games.
  3. Well, um, thanks for sharing. I know full well these aren't exactly popular games but I'll offer them here before just tossing 'em in the trash.
  4. Game called. DH Wednesday, first game is at 4:10 PM.
  5. Free tickets available (PM me if interested): 1 for tomorrow, 9/28 2 for Thursday, 9/30 Claimed!

  7. 50/50 that they play tonight. Forecast is rain and more rain.
  8. I would only consider giving Tulowitzki a first place vote if his team actually makes the playoffs. Votto seems a pretty clear choice to me.
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Connie Mack never won a division title. He won 9 pennants, though.
  10. Fuck you, Papelbon.
  11. The Second Spitter wrote: Btw does anybody know off-hand the longest serving MLB manager without a Division title? Currently? Jim Leyland, DET, 5 seasons Bruce Bochy, SF, 4 seasons Bud Black, SD, 4 seasons John Russell, PIT, 3 seasons Dusty Baker, CIN, 3 seasons Jerry Manuel, NYM, 2.5 seasons Obviously Baker and either Bochy or Black is coming off this list very shortly.
  12. Put it in the books! Last series we won in Philadelphia: July 2008.
  13. KABOOM!
  14. Howie ripping Castillo on the broadcast for Luis' unavailability to pinch-hit yesterday late in the game when he was in the clubhouse instead of the dugout.
  15. Winning our final series in Philadelphia this year would be nice.
  16. Excellent win. I am a huge fan of Beltran trying to send a return message.
  17. These morons' magic number is down to 2, and Atlanta did their part by winning today. Just delay the clinch please.

  19. Armed Forces Radio, probably.
  20. Centerfield wrote: Meanwhile, they maintain an incredible competitive advantage because of their payroll/resources. This is some serious mis-management that goes beyond bunting too often. Ok. But how many postseason appearances should they have had in the past 10 years? Serious question.
  21. G-Fafif wrote: It had a little more going for it when there were eight-team leagues and finishing fourth was viewed as an accomplishment for the likes of the Philadelphias and the Washingtons and the perpetually put-upons. It also was the dividing line between which teams got postseason shares and which ones didn't, and at that time, that extra money was a pretty big deal compared to what salaries were.

Apparently-- as Spitter found-- BetterHalfer was yelled at Springsteen's tour manager (and snarked at by Scialfa), and NOT Nils Lofgren (as I'd sworn). This is much less exciting than "cursed out by a member of the E Street band," sadly.
  23. I've constructed this from memory and crosschecks. Who am I missing? Homers by a Metly Rookie 1) Darryl Strawberry, 1983: 26 Ike Davis projected to end of season: 22.13 2) Ron Swoboda, 1965: 19 3) Ike Davis, 2010: 18 T4) Jay Payton, 2000: 17 T4) John Milner, 1972: 17 T6) David Wright, 2004: 14 T6) Benny Agabayani, 1999: 14 T8) Steve Henderson, 1977: 12 T8) Carl Everett, 1995: 12 T8) Gregg Jeffereis, 1989: 12 Jeromy Burnitz, 1993: 13 I'm not sure if Eric Valent still had rookie status (he was under the AB limit, but not necessarily the service time limit) when he hit 13 homers in 2004. Kevin Mitchell, 1986: 12 Victor Diaz, 2005: 12
  24. What if it turns out far worse than that?
