It might be semantics but I will always think of October 19, 1999 and September 30, 2007 as the ugliest starts in Mets history. I guess last night is more of a "frustrating" start because there was less at stake and there was far less concern about whether they'd win or not.
  2. Teixeira can't run. How about a triple play?
  3. How could they put Wheeler back out there? How could he issue ANOTHER leadoff walk???
  4. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: You suck, Wheeler. Can't even allow us to enjoy a good old fashioned beating of the MFYs. And shave that stupid beard. Exactly
  5. I think he's done too, Ron
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: Yeah, that's what you want to do after your team gifts you with two more runs - walk the leadoff hitter! And the next guy too. Not good, Zach.
  7. We're gonna need some more runs.
  8. Kaboom! Nicely done, Curtis.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Maybe, but what a waste of energy and lack of perspective arguing over "WHO'S TO BLAME?!" --- treating a season as a blameworthy writeoff at 18-19 I would submit it's perfectly reasonable to appreciate that the team is competitive and enjoyable, etc. while simultaneously recognizing that the last five seasons were awful.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: I'm thinking that the team is 18-19, with help hopefully on the way, the concern shouldn't be about assigning blame at all, but about root-root-rooting for the home team. They aren't mutually exclusive.
  11. Recognizing that around here there's little interest in reading Megdal, but I thought he had a every effective rebuttal piece to Rubin's blame-assignment-to-Alderson: http://www.capitalnewyork.com/article/media/2014/05/8545203/reminder-mets-problems-come-very-top

He got lit up in start #3 in Anaheim, start #6 in Colorado, and start #8 last night. Start #2 in Atlanta and #5 against St. Louis were very good. The other three were middling.
  13. I'm ready to try Valverde as closer again.

I'll admit to looking that one up. I remembered Easley hitting one but after checking it was at Shea (the Tyler Clippard game, I think)
  15. Boom. Not dead yet

  17. I also am confused why Meija was so quickly yanked out of the rotation but we keep putting Colon out there every 5 days unquestioned.
  18. The Solarte sequence was really poor. Your team just got the game tied and then you went and shut the bed. Just poor, Bartolo.
  19. That was really crappy, Bartolo.
  20. Boom. Your stupid minor-league sized ballpark works both ways.
  21. Beltran, Roberts, Jeter, McCann, Soriano - we'd be in real trouble if we were playing the Yankees in 2006.
  22. Excuse me while I vomit at the sight of Beltran in a Yankee uniform.
  23. Couple of takeaways: 1. No other reaction but to laugh when someone from the Mets goes on the record that they are "definitely not selling." Yes, it's David Newman this time (Dave Howard having since departed) but they don't have a long history of credibility on this issue. 2. As always, anything leading to a sale of the Mets to new ownership has to be seen as a positive sign.
  24. (Duplicate, can be merged with the other thread)
