  1. Khalil Lee has been sent down. Yoan Lopez has been recalled.
  2. Monday, I learned today, is a federal holiday: Juneteenth, officially marked Monday since this year June 19 falls on a Sunday,
  3. Regrets? Gregg Jefferies has a few. More about his St. Louis days, but some thoughts on being a Met who did his way, perhaps to his detriment. It was hard for Jefferies to retire and it was hard for him to join a veteran-laden, talented Mets team in the late 1980s. “I made a lot of mistakes. I had a terrible temper,” said Jefferies. “And I came in replacing one of the team favorites, Wally Backman. “I wore my heart on my sleeves. I lived and died every good-and-bad game. And you can't play baseball like that,” Jefferies said. In a recent New York Post story by Joel Sherman, some of the Mets from that era apologized for the way they treated Jefferies. “He was not allowed to thrive in the way he should have. In retrospect it is a black mark on the team,” said pitcher Ron Darling. “It was nice for them to admit that,” said Jefferies, “but I've never put the blame on them ever. For them to come out and say, ‘We treated this kid wrong,' was nice to hear. “They easily could said Jefferies was a brat or he was a punk, but they didn't.” https://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/gregg-jefferies-wonders-how-good-he-could-have-been/article_9e1519b7-8ec1-5adf-88f7-ed96274fc31f.htmlhttps://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/gregg-jefferies-wonders-how-good-he-could-have-been/article_9e1519b7-8ec1-5adf-88f7-ed96274fc31f.html
  4. Shaquille O'Neal knows what to wear to the Governor's Ball.
  5. Pete takes pride that 1971 Topps portrayed him in the field.
  6. Saturday night's blowout may have been a lost cause, yet those last four runs in the ninth to make it cosmetically better — 11-6 rather than 11-2 — gave me heart heading into tonight. Usually I'd shrug off losing by a little less than a whole lot, as it was still a loss by plenty, but it felt like a reminder that this team doesn't give up and was gonna be back in its usual form. Also, four of the five losses on this trip were simply lousy games (offset by some very fine wins), not games that got away or came oh so close. Given that they happened on the West Coast and from the vantage point of a still substantial lead, it feels as if there was no bullet and no dodging. Five and Five and ready to rev it up again.
  7. “Winning the game was really important for the Mets tonight.” “That's true, because every game you win is also a game you don't lose.” “The Yankees have won so many games, and the Mets have won many, too.”
  8. Edgy MD wrote: Mets running into a lot of lefties on this West Coast swing. It's good to have Alonso and Marte back to help face them, but I don't really think of them as back back quite yet. I haven't personally felt Marte's quad, but I would've expected him to come back in the DH slot, initially. Wayne relayed Buck's thinking last night that Marte is better off staying loose in the outfield than potentially going cold between DH ABs. “Also,” I added in my head, “the DH is a candy-ass position.”
  9. =Gwreck post_id=95108 time=1654574845 user_id=56] Keith making a Grapes of Wrath joke was pretty funny. But generally this broadcast is a reminder that Gary/Keith is the weakest of the potential 3 SNY combos.
  10. Holderman to the IL with right shoulder impingement. Jake Reed up in his place.
  11. You can disdain a distaff announcer without dismissing all who are practically pioneers. Katie Nolan was awful. She didn't make woman announcers look bad. She made announcing look bad. And the game sound worse. Wayne was wonderful. Pence filled his goofy recently retired player who knows a few things seat more than adequately. They could have stopped there.
  12. Stephen Tarpley joined the Long Island Ducks on April 22.
  13. The Mets, in the form of a digitized version of this oil painting… http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/wp-content/uploads/A7F812FE-825F-4F7A-B386-D997D49317E5.jpeg> …are headed for the Moon. 14. Leon Brown had a world of speed. We blinked and he was gone.
  15. For one year, Jose Valentin was the power-hitting second baseman we weren't expecting.

  17. Prospect: Dave Schneck. Established Star: Roberto Alomar. Midseason Pickup: Tom Paciorek. Recidivist: Jeromy Burnitz/Roger Cedeño 2.0.
  18. My gander of your Gonder goosed my attention. According to his SABR bio, Jesse Gonder made the 1969 Padres out of Spring Training but never got into a game and was gone after a couple of weeks, à la Jerry Moses with the 1975 Mets. Learn something new about a veteran catcher every day!
  19. Edgy MD wrote: My PetCo Memories (and Probably Most Other MetFolks') 1. Bartolo's homer 2. The Cameron-Beltran collision in 2005 3. Wright's barehand grab i seem to remember Pedro Martinez working late into a game there with a no-hitter going. But I may be conflating, because I remember Gerald Willliams in the outfield That was indeed at Dodger Stadium on the next stop.
