1. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2022/07/09/no-17-up-where-it-belongs/Keith's big day. Show good fundies.
2. One night in Flushing and the world's no longer Jake Reed's oyster. The reliever goes to Syracuse after his two shutout innings so Chris Bassitt can continue to breathe on his teammates.
3. Seasons used to start with 28 on the roster.

5. I was, at least for the first few years I was paying attention, surprised any Mets were in the Old Timers' ceremonies seeing as how new the Mets were. It was gratifying to see them included as more and more of them began to trickle into the eligible demographic, but I really did get a kick out of the veritable pageant of uniforms you'd see when the Mets would invite players of all stripe back. I saw Lloyd Waner swing the bat at age 70, which seemed, to the lad I was, impossibly old for a person to be doing anything remotely athletic. Did I mention I was much younger then?
6. Edgy MD wrote: I hope the booth brings this up tonight. I'm guessing no. Wayne brought it up. A little on the sympathetic side for what players perceive as the inconsistency of the rule in terms of reporting positive tests (some players therefore don't miss time). Howie suggested Chris might want to walk back his comments somewhat, stressing the impact on other people and all we don't know.
7. We value candor, but “feelin' good, guys, ready to strap it on” would have served him better. Also, don't breathe too heavily on Carlos Carrasco.
8. He's feeling good, though not about testing for COVID.
9. Graham Ashcraft could also be the name of Guy Who Just Bought a Boat.
10. Not his brother in captaincy Carter. Not his brother in boothdom Cohen. But Keith's actual brother Gary Hernandez. That he credits his brother with at least a portion of that success is no throwaway kindness; perhaps no one had more of an impact on Hernandez's mental state throughout his career than Gary -- his older brother, mentor, travel companion and closest confidant. So, when Mets officials asked Hernandez whom he would like to catch his ceremonial first pitch on Saturday during his number retirement festivities at Citi Field, Keith did not hesitate in naming Gary. “I kind of consider myself his reality check,” Gary Hernandez said. “To me, he's my younger brother. He's not Keith Hernandez the superstar.” On the eve of the retirement of No. 17, Anthony DiComo profiles the oft-referenced older brother in California. https://www.mlb.com/news/keith-hernandez-mets-number-retirement-brother-impacthttps://www.mlb.com/news/keith-hernandez-mets-number-retirement-brother-impact
11. R.J. Alvarez ghosts to Syracuse as Papa David Peterson returns from paternity leave.
12. Point to the sky and see Hansel Robles, designated for assignment by the Red Sox.
13. So it doesn't get lost on the previous page, Scherzer back, Shreve DFA'd.
14. Chasen Shreve is DFA'd to make room for Max Scherzer. Not a bad tradeoff.
15. Peterson to paternity list, Holderman returns.
16. Jonathan Villar joins Noah Syndergaard and Aaron Loup in Anaheim.
17. Edwin Diaz is your National League Reliever of the Month.
18. R.J. Alvarez, No. 71, takes the IL'd Chris Bassitt's roster spot. (Locke St. John is outrighted to Syracuse.)
19. Dale's nine outings previous to the hanging of this banner were not pretty: 17.1 IP, 8.31 ERA. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=murrada01&t=p&year=1979#352-360-sum:pitching_gamelogshttps://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=murrada01&t=p&year=1979#352-360-sum:pitching_gamelogs Yet Montreal picked him up for the stretch drive.
20. Edgy MD wrote: Hebner was fine. Miserable, maybe, but fine. We probably won the Hebner/Espinosa trade. Hebner was also popular among organized Catholic youth — and his popularity was deemed a bigger story by the Daily News than the farewell to a Shea Stadium institution. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/wp-content/uploads/25EB957C-78C3-4017-B3BD-03676B0E8022.jpeg>
