  1. Juan Lagares - CF David Wright - 3B Yoenis Cespedes - LF Juan Uribe - 2B Travis dArnaud - C Michael Cuddyer - RF Wilmer Flores - SS Eric Campbell - 1B Bartolo Colon - RHP
  2. Lupica, Madden, F. Bondy all out at Snooze. Would be great if it was for being overwrought hacks. Sadly, it's for budgetary reasons.
  3. Wright 2.0 Conforto 1.0 Goeddel 1.0 Parnell 1.0 Stauffer 0.5
  4. It's as much a reflection the lineups of their day as it is to what Peerless Yo From (south of) Manzanillo is doing, but Cespedes's 17 HRs to date, all accumulated since early August, would have led a dozen different Met clubs in that category over a full season. A few more are within (for him) easy reach as well.
  5. Tim Rohan on how the beast became a Met. My only objection is the inclusion of the COO as the tough-talking, signer-offer on the big deal. Would love to pretend a giddy dowager still owns the team.
  6. Nice article in the Times on how the Mets are Taking Back New York. Area fan quoted a couple of times therein.
  7. Go Rockies. Chris Rusin vs. Brett Anderson. L.A.'s record is a half-game better than that of the Mets, should that be of parochial interest.
  8. On August 6, 2006, the New York Mets' record reached 66-44, the last time it rested precisely 22 games over .500...until now. On September 14, 2015, the New York Mets' record reached 83-61, or 22 games over .500, don'tcha know? In the course of this renaissance season, the Mets have established current standards that have brushed aside those from 2014 (one game under to four games over .500); 2012 (five to eight games over .500); 2010 (nine to eleven games over .500); 2008 (twelve to nineteen games over .500); 2007 (20 and 21 games over .500); and now this one from the division championship year of 2006. In case you're wondering, the high-water mark of 2006 was 35 games over, last achieved on September 13 of that year (90-55).
  9. Phillies ultimately unhelpful, but Papelbon blowing a lead in the tenth to his old team when he came back to town to announce he was pretty much the only Phillie who had cared about winning was a moral victory for the soul, if not an additional tick off the ol' magic number.

  11. I think I twice preceded a winning streak with a loss, so you're welcome.

  13. Two in a row -- Yoenis Cespedes gets the NL honor for the past week.
  14. Meet your new team on the side, the Philadelphia Phillies. Oh hell, you know them. But did you know you want them to win their next three games? Monday: Nola vs. Zimmermann. Tuesday: Buchanan vs. Strasburg. Wednesday: Morgan vs. Gonzalez. For the uninitiated, Nola is a city in Louisiana, Buchanan was an ineffectual president from Pennsylvania and Morgan had a sister who was known to traipse to the pitcher's mound and steal a kiss. GO YOU PHILLIES! (Bleech.)

  16. For eight years and one day, the last time the Mets were 21 games over .500 was 9/12/2007, at 83-62. New 21 Games Over marker: September 13, 2015, 82-61. Next stop on the Since Express: the division-winning year of 2006.
  17. Centerfield wrote: What do we call a day like today? Mets win. Nats lose. Toronto sweeps a doubleheader against the MFY's. Even better if the Dodgers lose.

  19. By defeating the Atlanta Braves on September 12, 2015, the New York Mets (81-61) are precisely 20 games over .500 for the first time since September 14, 2007 (83-63), which was the night the Mets lost the first game of a three-game series to the Philadelphia Phillies at Shea Stadium to reduce their National League East lead to 5 1/2 games with 16 to play. With the Magic Number at 11, the division title was still in the bag. Soon the bag would be in the river, but never mind that. It happened a long, long time ago.
  20. Gary Cohen has compared Cespedes's hitting style to that of Mays. I can see it.
  21. Whoever's playing the Nationals won't be facing Drew Storen. Dude broke his thumb in one of those locker-slamming tantrums after he gave up Yo's HR Wednesday night, meaning Cespedes literally ended his season. Jose Fernandez one of our two favorite pitchers in the world tonight. Tanner Roark goes for whoever's playing whoever's playing the Nationals.
  22. I like how Cespedes offers protection to the rest of the lineup. [fimg=250:3bgvp1xn]http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7135/1256/1600/townhallbodyguard1.jpg[/fimg:3bgvp1xn]

  24. By defeating the Atlanta Braves on September 11, 2015, the New York Mets (80-61) are precisely 19 games over .500 for the first time since September 19, 2008 (86-67). That was as high as the Mets rose above .500 in 2008. Next in sight? A couple of "since" stops from the year before 2008.
  25. Jarred Cosart and the Marlins attempt to pick up where Jacob deGrom and the Mets left off tonight in Miami. Gio Gonzalez goes against our very temporarily beloved Fish.
