  1. I had a chance at a http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2006/05/26/how-will-i-know/Buckner ball that (probably) wasn't in 1988. I managed to pass.
  2. And wears a mask, so his responses are a little muffled.
  3. This guy thought we were Pittsburgh, where he had the same job. No offense to Pittsburgh, but we're not.
  4. From https://www.itsabouttv.com/2020/11/this-week-in-tv-guide-november-21-1970.htmlThis Week in TV Guide, 1970. Thanksgiving Day on the West Coast starts at 7:30 a.m. PT with my personal favorite of the era, The CBS All-American Thanksgiving Day Parades, three hours of fun featuring CBS personalities announcing four department store-sponsored parades: Macy's in New York, with Peter Graves and Julie Sommars; Gimbels' in Philadelphia, with Harvey Korman and Vicki Lawrence; J.L. Hudson's in Detroit, with New York Mets pitcher Tom Seaver and his wife Nancy; and, taped in Toronto,* the Eaton's Santa Claus Parade, with Mike Connors and Amanda Blake. For many years Bob Keeshan and the Captain Kangaroo gang hosted the overall coverage, but I don't know who (if anyone) was doing it by 1970.
  5. Yonder Alonso has announced his retirement via Instagram, as one is prone to do.
  6. The limited history of Mets named Sam: Two joined in 1962 — Sammy Taylor and Sammy Drake. Then none until 2019: Sam Haggerty. Plus a couple of Samuel(s) as last names — Amado and Juan (the former was referred to in his time as Sammy; the latter is best referred to rarely if at all). Sam Perlozzo coached a few seasons. Charlie Samuels prowled the clubhouse forever. Joe Sambito is over there with McEwing, Pignatano and the regular Joes.
  7. Our new righty Sam McWilliams is a tall drink of water, towering over batters at a height of six feet, seven inches.
  8. Exorcise the woe-is-us demons. Make Bobby Bo lovable again. Or for the first time. Alternatively, the fans can fling whatever leftover pretzels they didn't rain on the late Whitey Ford.
  9. The Stork! Via the Son of The Stork!
  10. Steve Cohen approval, indeed.
  11. Special assistant, advisor, what have you Terry Collins says he's retired. https://sny.tv/articles/former-mets-manager-and-advisor-terry-collins-says-i-m-retired-https://sny.tv/articles/former-mets-manager-and-advisor-terry-collins-says-i-m-retired-
  12. First Mets Opening Night since 2016 in KC, also for ESPN purposes. First NL Opening Night for the Mets since 2011, when new skipper Terry Collins led his minions into Your Name Here Stadium somewhere near Miami.
  13. Cano won't play second and Cohen won't play coy.
  14. Not all suspensions looming over an upcoming season are created equal.
  15. Van Wagenen's gotta go.
  16. =bmfc1 post_id=50903 time=1605721443 user_id=73] He didn't walk, he used a Hoverboard and went to a newsstand near the Clock Tower.
  17. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2020/11/17/a-rainy-goodbye/Would've been 76 today.
  18. Just learned the late Marty Noble is a finalist for the Spink Award. He not only deserves it, he deserved when when he was alive.
  19. My objection to the Secret Weapon headline is Tomás Nido has been in the big leagues since 2017 and is hardly a secret to anybody paying attention.
  20. Lindy McDaniel, MFY closer pre-Sparky Lyle and a longtime Cardinal before that, 84, claimed by Covid.
  21. Honest to Jackson Todd, when I first saw “Crane Pool,” I assumed it was a reference to this cartoon, the image of which I recently tracked down anew to accompany my http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2020/11/13/18-and-life/Eddie Kranepool essay on FAFIF (the finale to our A Met for All Seasons series), but the memory of which has stayed with me for 45 years.
  22. The soon to be former White House press secretary is not only married to a 2015 Met, she is the niece of the 1977 Expo who intersected with the most surprising of 1977 Mets. We spoke for an hour and one minute, and the entirety was punctuated by Lenny's contagious laughter. The call was not so much as an interview as it was a conversation between old friends, though he was beyond gracious in answering any questions I had come up with to gather info for this story. As I went back the following day to review the recorded call and document details and quotes, I was impressed by his ability to speak about anything and everything off the cuff with no need for notes or reference other than his razor-sharp memory. I found myself saying “um” and stuttering often when trying to formulate thoughts on the fly by contrast. I had a few pages of notes to ask questions on, including the time in 1977, when he hit a walk-off home run in the 17th inning off Expos' pitcher Will McEnany to end the game and snap a nine game losing streak. If the pitcher's name seems familiar, it might be because you are familiar with his twin brother Mike's daughter, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany The name is more familiar from the 1975 Reds, but an interesting telephone visit with Lenny Randle here:
