  1. BTW, I hope future (annual) inductions take the approach being taken with the upcoming class, with several generations represented at once to both make up for lost time and make it extra special for fans who can connect to different parts of their lives and the franchise's life. “Pick one” is fine as a Metsullectual exercise, but “pick a bunch at a time” is how I hope the NYMHOF committee proceeds.

  4. DeGrom doesn't get the loss. Small (minute) victory.

  7. I wonder if the last-out World Series celebration will be interrupted by an umpire checking whoever threw the final pitch for substances.
  8. DeGrom tonight evoked Randy Johnson in Game One of the 1999 NLDS vs us. Shockingly hittable — 4 runs in 4 innings, including homers to Fonzie and Oly — then virtually untouchable until the ninth. Showalter stuck with him maybe an inning too long, leaving him in until he loaded the bases, setting the stage for Bobby Chouinard to give up the decisive slam to Fonzie. NFL Films would have framed the Mets as the winners, but Johnson as a champion. I wouldn't have argued, https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/ARI/ARI199910050.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/ARI/ARI199910050.shtml Of course deGrom was actually untouchable once he locked in. And no way he was gonna see the 9th tonight.
  9. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Dickey deserves a Mets hOf enshrinement Is there a minimum # of years as a Met to qualify? Because if three year Mets are eligible, then Dickey for sure, and also Olerud. As far as I know, there is no minimum on seasons played. The fewest of any player inductee is five — Gary Carter and Tommie Agee.

Bobby Bonilla invites you to celebrate his special day with an Airbnb stay at the Mets' Citi Field This Bobby Bonilla Day, Bobby is heading up to the plate to host an Airbnb stay at Citi Field, in the ultimate Mets doubleheader For just $250, this Amazin' overnight will be available to four lucky guests Starting on July 8 at 12 pm ET, Mets fans can request to book one night at Citi Field on July 28 It's Bobby Bonilla Day -- and for the first time, the New York Mets are inviting fans to take part in the July 1st excitement! Today, Bobby is back to work, this time as the Host of a stay at Citi Field like never before, available on Airbnb. Bobby and the Mets are inviting four lucky Mets fans to experience a night at the ballpark that will leave them with that bottom of the 9th, walk-off homerun feeling. “As a born and raised New Yorker and a longtime player in the city, there is a special place in my heart for Mets fans and it's wonderful to see the faithful back in some green seats in Queens,” Bobby said. “This year, I'm joining in on the fun, trying on a new glove as an Airbnb Host and hopefully giving a few folks the night of their lives at Citi Field.” The team has curated a major league-quality experience for guests at Citi Field that will have them yelling “Let's play two!” That's right, guests will be able to watch both a day and a night game, while belting out Take Me Out to the Ball Game from their own VIP suite and enjoying limitless ballpark hotdogs and drinks. And there are more than a few extra innings to this experience. That practice may be needed, because you'll also step right up to the mound and throw the ceremonial first pitch before our night game on July 28. You may be sleeping in a ballpark ready to welcome 42,000 fans, but you can rest assured that your stay will be private, and in accordance with our Safe at Citi guidelines. Any fan of the Amazin' Mets who wants to spend a night at Citi Field can request to book this one-night stay beginning on Thursday, July 8th at 12:00PM EST at airbnb.com/mets.* And for those who too have their own unique space to share, learn more here about how you can join Bobby in becoming an Airbnb Host. 13. Was perusing the standings this AM, noticed an L1 in the streak column for the MFYs, was confused since I knew they had a large lead before resuming action in the Colbert time slot last night. Maybe their game got suspended or…THEY LOST? SEVEN IN THE NINTH? OH BEAUTIFUL! There was a conga line scene outside Fenway in “Fever Pitch” for such a dramatic turn of events. Though I had no rooting interest then, it brought me back to a long ago January Sunday when I got out of the car with an AFC playoff game hopelessly one-sided at the half; engaged in a family function sans TV; got back in the car with the afternoon's next playoff game underway; and heard the announcer refer to the Bills having defeated the Oilers and assumed he misspoke. No way the Oilers blew a 28-3 halftime lead. But, of course, they did (from up 35-3 to having lost 41-38). BTW, I did not expect to have so much fun just now typing “Oilers,” a much-missed football nickname. Just one more happy byproduct of an epic MFY loss.
  14. I hope David Peterson's right side didn't watch the rest of the game. It would only get more sore.
  15. CORRECTION: That's Almora.
  16. Luis Guillorme about to wreak Schaefer ballot havoc by pitching.
  17. I saw the movie Moneyball last week on cable TV. I'd seen it before. Maybe twice. And last week, the scene that stuck out for me was when an A's player was acting ubpeat and happy in the locker room following an A's loss. The Billy Beane character (Brad Pitt) walks by and has a fit when he sees this. He throws stuff all over the place and browbeats the player. "Is losing fun? No? Then why are you having fun?" And I couldn't relate to Beane. Maybe it's my age. But Beane's reaction made no sense to me. I don't see how one thing neessarily has anything to do with the other. I don't see how listening and grooving to your music means you don't care about the loss. At that moment, Beane's reaction felt idiotic to me. The other night, Conforto (I believe) talked about what a good sign it was that the Mets never get down, that even when they lose, they still have the music on in the clubhouse. Made me wonder if that's a specific reaction to the Billy Beane/Jeremy Giambi scene.
  18. Thomas Szapucki: a pitcher Don Rickles would've loved.
  19. Stephen Tarpley also going in for surgery, per the pitcher's Instagram.
  20. Betances out for season — shoulder surgery.
  21. Mets playing the Braves and MFYs back-to-back as the season's midpoint approaches, sporting a better record than both. Circa 2000 me would have killed for such a scenario.
