Unfortunately with our GM situation haveing been unresolved at the start of the offseason we just didn’t have enough time to lay the groundwork for such large investments. That being said we feel very confident about the moves we made. We feel very lucky to return great veterans like Bartolo Colon and Jose Bautista. We think 2019 is going to be a great year.” You forgot to announce the early April "David Wright [crossout]money grab[/crossout]Day" and "Jose Reyes Sleeveless White T-Shirt Day"
  2. do wife-beaters get work visas? i remember Korean player Jung Ho Kang had a hard time getting back to the US after a drunk driving incident
  3. "No Thanks" has been my attitude towards his presence on this roster all year. He was here, or is still here, at least in part because of his "Mets Legacy" - if we're saying that legacy doesn't matter or can't be acknowledged because of the abuse charge, why is even still here?
  4. I wonder why, with the magic of internet, the Wilpons felt the need to announce a press conference nearly a week out. Wouldn't "Jeff will speak tomorrow" have been enough for a quorum of talking heads with press passes to clear their calendars?
  5. Public Service Announcement: MFYs being no-hit through 6 innings by Jake Odorizzi,
  6. needs tommy john surgery on his pitching elbow, but hit two homers yesterday. this is going to be a TOUGH decision. he has hit so well in his first season here and only 23 years old. would he have to miss a year to continue the 2-way dream? could he remain a hitter without the surgery and just keep going?
  7. Edgy MD wrote: It's been a while since we've seen a good Nymr drunk post. Two typos is a drunk post? You have very high standards for the internet my friend!
  8. Given the Sept 1st roater increase he could be added just to punch hit with no loss of a spot, but we know that wont happen because of insurance money
  9. Reyes under .200 and still wasting plate appearances.
  10. The biggest remaining question for the Mets this year is "when deGrom accepts his Cy Young award, will he also be handed the NL MVP?"
  11. Frayed Knot wrote: So Drew Smith, after throwing one inning/20 pitches -- one scoreless inning I might add -- needed to be removed from the game in order to make room for the Jose Reyes clown show? the babying of pitchers in today's game is nuts. a shortstop can come on and throw 48 batting practice softballs but relievers can't go a 2nd inning?
  12. Edgy MD wrote: Hard to think of a Mets middle infielder who did as credibly with as little mobility. Jeff Kent!
  13. would love to see the Mets try to win, but the return above is infinitely better than treading water. I wouldn't be too angry sure, 'all the time' but it's still a crazy low percentage. Unless you're getting like, top 5 picks that are already mashing in the upper levels, it's a crapshoot. Keep the talented guy, fill in around him. Tatis is 19 and playing very well at AA, he borders on that
  14. Because this is how negotiation is done. This how you maximize returns on an asset. By making sure everyone has a chance to bid. If you don't understand that then you are not in a position to have an educated discussion on the subject. that just isn't true. there are other ways to deal. you can take the used car dealer approach "this Familia is available now for these prospects but don't walk off the lot! i've got another guy ready to buy and Familia won't be here if you come back later!" which is to say artificially inflate the value and make the need to act now seem pressing before the other GM has the chance to call all the others sellers and see if he can get a better reliever for the asking price. i am not saying the Mets executed that strategy well, only that it is one of many strategies that someone (not them) could successfully employee.
  15. Edgy MD wrote: Back to you, NYMR. nope, i'm not going to strongly attack or defend the deal, lets see what they do with the bonus money. i was just commenting on another reliever trade that happened today. i can't get too worked worked up about the return on a 3 month reliever rental or the Mets not eating salary.
  16. yeah, yankees "catcher" prospect Jesus Montero never came together. you need to talk about the trades now though. right now, the Mets dont look so hot based on what the 'experts' think of the guys they got back. maybe the experts are wrong and the Mets scouts are right. we'll see.
  17. didnt realize that!
  18. Not sure if anyone here has subscribed to the Athletic, but per MLBTR, Jim Bowden of the Athletic claims that rival teams interested in Familia told him "they didn't know why the Mets didn't approach them one final time to give them a chance to top Oakland's offer." Bowden called the trade "the most lopsided trade so far this trade season." And Ricco is speaking about the trade. No mysteries to reveal. He says the A's offered what the Mets wanted. Story --> https://nypost.com/2018/07/22/why-mets-pulled-trigger-early-on-this-jeurys-familia-trade/ I think there is one relevant quote in the article though at the very end concerning the role of Minaya here - “I realize we’re a couple of weeks into the signing period. A lot of the big-money players are off the board, but one of the things we have now with Omar back — we’ve been aggressive in the international market — but Omar has a track record of going out and finding talent in that arena, and we want to give him the opportunity to go out and do that.”
  19. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Mets have pitchers. Generally speaking, I'd risk losing Wheels or Matz and gamble on Dunn or Peterson next year. someone will get hurt. or suck. or both. bring Matz back based on this year and if Dunn/Peterson earn their spot there will always be a spot. or you can make via trade then.
  20. Padres trade reliever Brad Hand to Cleveland for TOP PROSPECT catcher Francisco Mejia. just saying.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: From the "Show us the plan" file, I don't think we're ever going to really hear how money is going to be re-invested. The best you can do is look at the next purchase, and consider the outlay coming in part or whole from whatever was saved or returned in the previous non-cash-neutral deal. when it comes to international signing bonus dollars, we do actually get to see where they spend the money (unless the prospect comes from Venezuela, things are so bad there that Baseball America isn't posting signings out of fear of kidnapping of prospects' families)
  22. Methead wrote: Those dicklords are gonna postpone deGrom, aren't they I am surprised they didnt call it off as of 9 AM in typical Yankee style
  23. Edgy MD wrote: Tebow singled and scored the eventual game-winning run yesterday, but ended up leaving the game later with a wrist issue. Stay tuned!! Surely TIM TEBOW hasn't been jerking off too much??
  24. bmfc1 wrote: Tim Tebow (1 for 2 so highest average) It will be an infield single in the last game of the year to help the Mets avoid 100 losses. Because Tebow hustles and plays the game the right way even with nothing to play for. And you will hear about it ALL OFFSEASON
