  1. Clemens can hit him as hard as he wants and it won't matter, major league hitters, especialy bonds, wear too much armor on their arms now. Even if he hit him, the umpire would call it a HBP despite the arm being over the plate. There should be a new rule in light of all the stupid armor...if a pitch hits the armor it is a Ball not a HBP.... either that or enforce the strike zone as it is written in the rulebook.

] "Either 42 is retired by every team or it isn't" It isn't, not yet anyway: hence Mariano. yes, it is. if the Mets were to retire #5 for John Olerud tommorow, David Wright would be grandfathered in and allowed to keep it, but if Wright went to Baltimore (who already had 5 retired for John Doe) he would not get to keep 5. Rivera can keep 42 because he had 42 before the yankees (along with everyone else) retired it, if jose lima had remained an astro he could have kept the number as well, but when he went to another city where that number is retired he's out of luck.
  3. i can't be too impressed with a 27 year old's numbers at Single A.

Either 42 is retired by every team or it isn't, if it isn't then get it off the wall at shea before you put it on anyone's back. if it is then you don't get to wear it unless you have been continuosly wearing it since before the number was retired (ala rivera)

i don't think he should be grandfathered back in after switching numbers, he wore it with the astros, fine, and if he had continued wearing it after that it would be fine too....but he hasn't worn it now for awhile, there is no reason to let him go back to it.
  6. i have no problem stopping at 18 people but if any additional members of the board want to join now is the time to speak... i think we've saved Duan's spot long enough (i private messaged him almost 3 weeks ago with no responce)
  7. the draft is set for: Sat Mar 4 6:45pm EST before we make any changes bear in mind that we can't get a weekend date any later into march than that, i've already checked. so would a majority rather have it on a weeknight or are we a go for then?
  8. oh they will definetaly be heckled....i might even have to start refering to them as "closet yankee fan" on the board
  9. in a 4x4 league the "middle man strategy" mioght work, but in a 5x5 league, especialyl one with 20 teams, you'll finish last in Wins AND strikeouts giving you a "1" in 2 of the 10 categories....even if you win WHIP, ERA, and SAVES you'd need insane hitting to win the league, and you're spending two high draft picks on closers to be the winner in saves.
  10. Hernandez and Keppinger should have been 5 and 6 on the simple basis that nobody below there stands to see any significant time in the majors in the next few years while either of them could conceivably see 400 ABs this year if Boone gets cut and Matsui shows he can't hit in April/May
  11. 162 game max is a given.... we'll discuss an innings min/max for pitchers once we decide on starter/reliever positions....it has been my experience however that minimums are unnecessary in a 5x5 league (and very necessary in a 4x4.) a maximum is something i think you NEED to have with daily transactions to prevent the "start cycling" that i hate, though in such a large league that shouldnt be an issue anyway.
  12. ] I've been told by management, for the most part, that we're going to play the best people. Obviously, you've got to consider stuff like contracts -- that's a reality of the game. But still, when it gets down to it, we're going to try and pick the guy that deserves to win the job." i find the honesty about contracts refreshing. going into this year i'd divide the 2B playing time: 75% Matsui, 25% whoever makes the team as the backup... if the backup plays better his time increases and same for matsui, if either one is sucking up the joint their time goes to the next guy in line at AAA. I think Matsui deserves the chance to start the year at 2B but he hasn't earned himself much rope, if he's doing poorly and someone else is doing well i'd make the switch quickly.
  13. i still think a DL is a good idea but as long as the bench is 6 men its not as big a deal as it would be if the bench was smaller... i'll go along with the "no dl" crowd provided that its a 6 man bench... any further thouhgts...??
  14. its "Belle" not "Bell"... Derek hasn't done anything wrong.
  15. nice job Narron! go home fatso! ...hey, if you spent most of last year on the DL and you arent willing to work hard over the offseason to be in shape i think sending you home is the right move for an organization.

  17. what happens when multiple guys get hurt at once though? i don't mind a DL-player on the bench but to force someone to carry one in their active lineup just so they wont have to drop him seems pretty absurd to me.
  18. Zvon wrote: Is it just me or does Kerri Heilman look just like Katie Holmes? i didnt see it, but i'm definetaly a big fan of both.
  19. KC- we were saving a spot for you but we definetaly have enough people as is, no worries. Patchy- go to the fantasy baseball subforum and check out the signup info there.
  20. i think even with a large bench you need 2 DL spots because while a guy out 15 days might come off your bench its pretty unfair to have to bench a guy who is out 2 months (and at the same time bad for the league if its a good player who gets dropped).... 6 and 2 sounds fine to me
  21. you three still need to sign up on the yahoo site, if you don't plan to let us know so we can let others in...
  22. before we make a poll how about some discussion on bench/dl size because there are so many options... i'd like to go with a 6 man bench (making the rosters 25 men with our 19 starters) i'd also like a large DL, i hate guys getting screwed by injuries.
  23. 3 it is, i'll adjust the setting when i get the chance, next up will be a poll on bench/dl size and one on starters/relievers
  24. we wont wait forever here either...going daily.
