  1. offhand i think schottenheimer's kid was on his staff in san diego
  2. we were favored to win the division, and probably the NL, last year. whoops.
  3. one look at his stats screams "Pass." I guess it can't hurt to have him in AA or something as an emergency replacement.
  4. even if they both get in the percentages will still be telling. When Clemens gets 85% and Bonds 75% or the other way around that when you have to ask what 10% of the writers were smoking
  5. Russo made a great point about the hall today, if Clemens and Bonds both don't play this year they'll be up for election the first time together. both were locks to receive 100% of the vote absent steroid issues, so we get to ansewr some questions by comparing what happens to the two of them.
  6. its about time, but we're still a month and a half from the real games
  7. what a load of crap. there isnt a scintilla of evidence that Bush has or intends to have anything to do with this.
  8. nice chart. fat fucks.
  9. ]White folks can't wait to forgive Clemens. maybe Yankee Fans can't wait to forgive him, but he's been roundly criticized by everyone else. stop playing the race card jackass.
  10. i don't think the HOF is necessary nor do i think being a hallf of famer means you deserve your number on the wall (unless you spent your whole career with a team, i can't conceive of a circumstance where a hall of famer spend their whole career on a team where they should not retire his number.) that said i think Seaver is the only player the Mets need to have retired right now. Add Robinson (who is a unique individual case, there should be no similiar retirement for a hispanic, an asian, or anyone else) and thats it. I don't mind that Hodges is retired but wouldn't really do it myself. a number for Payson (along with Shea who will no longer have the building named after him) would be fine but i wouldn't care much about it. thats it.
  11. if Clemens did it and doesnt want to say so his best bet would be to pulla mcgwire, you dont face perjury charges for saying "my attorney told me to shut up" i think pettite erased any lingering doubts anyone might have had, and boy did he come out of this smelling like roses... clemens should learn a lesson here... perjury is worse than confession both for public opinion and your chances of a conviction down the line.

  13. there are more people in this thread than there are teams signed up, come on guys! edit- if you're having trouble signing up let me know and i'll try to help
  14. I remember reading Hoch's site religiously back before MLB shut him down. I can't speak for old(er) people but for me, and i'd suspect many, many more around my age, Hoch is a far bigger part of our met-fandom than Erhardt could ever be.
  15. yes his yankee-fan-ness really came out there, but theres a thread about that in the RLF (untouched since october, are we being too nice lately?)
  16. ]My only point is that Karl's character recognizability to that of Doris' is pro- bably 1000 to 1 among people say forty and over. the reverse ratio might be true for those under 40. anyone who listens to steve sommers knows who Doris was, i had seen pictures of Erhardt holding up that sign before i think, but i couln't have named him before being told he had died. but you're losing [what i think is] steve's point. its easy to honor someone who worked for the organization, but how do you draw the line between "celebrity fans" who have no affiliation?
  17. I can't imagine that Gotay is as good a SS as Easley. He's also not as valuable a hitter off the bench right now. Given their ages though I wouldn't want to lose Gotay from the organization so if he is out of options he has to stick around (I don't know over who.)
  18. I'll vote for 72, followed by 48. I see no reason not to leave this poll open at least until the day before the draft, its not like it will matter in anyone's draft strategy.
  19. ]When Charlie is talking baseball with me in this room, he kind of reminds me of Kramer interviewing people on the old Merv Griffin set, said Kupfer, referring to an episode of Seinfeld in which Cosmo Kramer finds furniture from Griffins talk show in the trash and reassembles it in his apartment. wow. i was thinking the same thing before i got to that part of the article.

as i said earlier this was a really bad year for movies. nothing that came out this year is ever going to see any reasonable "all-time list." Two movies that lost in 1994 (Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction) are better than anything that came out this year, the same can probably be said for 1999 (Green Mile and Sixth Sense.) Come to think of it, the 90's were just way better for movies than the 00's have been so far.
  21. the same guy as last year? bring him back then. everyone please don't invite anyone else from outside the board until we've given time for board members to sign up.
  22. metsguyinmichigan wrote: I hope the team does something to mark his passing this season. Not a patch or armband or anything like that. But a moment of silence would be nice. how about hanging some of his better known signs somewhere visible in the park?
  23. ]The NFL also controls the media to such a degree ... that much is certainly true, remember that fictional show on ESPN about the misfit football team? i forget what it was called but it was a good show and got good ratings but the NFL made ESPN cancel it.
  24. How about, time to reassess your video-choosing ability Bingo. want Jude Law? watch Enemy at the Gates, I can't think of anything else remotely watchable that he's been in.
  25. what really bothers me is the phone call he placed to McNamee.
