  1. Well, el duque should be back soon, and then he should be hurt within a week, so it might be time to go starter-shopping.

  6. Valadius wrote: VandenHurk is the one player in the majors from the Netherlands. His first name is infact Henricus! now thats an awesome name.
  7. Might it simply be that the old style architecture is simply objectively nicer? the ugly stadiums of the 60's and 70's (i can't think of a baseball stadium built in the 80's) are a trend that has thankfully expired.
  8. It takes Vandenhurk TWELVE pitches to get out Pedro! don't worry boys, at this rate we'll be into the bullpen by the 5th
  9. Castillo beats out an infield hit. Castillo to 2nd on a bad pickoff throw by Vandenhurk
  10. alot of people tried to fool me today, but only you were successful, well played.

It's that type of color commentary I miss. commentary that is in fact inaccurate? the league has a higher avg/obp/slg with the bases loaded.
  12. It doesn't say "outside the united states" it says "outside the 50 states", this would presumably mean the ballplayer born in a DC hospital would be on this list along with the puerto rican and the guy born in the virgin islands
  13. Its hard to blame MLB.com though, I'm sure they are simply parroting each club's PR department. The AP should really be above that.
  14. Don't get in a cab while on Tom Glavine level.

soupcan wrote: I've read that its both easier and harder to hit with the sacks drunk. Easier because the pressure is on the pitcher to throw strikes. Harder because the batter tends to press to get the big hit. So basically my post adds nothing to this thread. statistics suggest it is easier, likely because of the 'must throw a strike' thing. but this of course doesnt account for the increased likelihood that when the bases are loaded you are facing a pitcher who is tired or at least at the moment ineffective.
  16. NY Post wrote: Mets by the Numbers by Jon Springer and Matthew Silverman (Skyhorse) Baseball is a game of numbers and as the Mets open their 46th season (tomorrow in Florida), devoted fans can spend the team's off days soaking up the heaps (Danny Heep's number was 25) of information in this happily obsessive, 303-page book subtitled "A Complete Team History of the Amazin' Mets by Uniform Number." One example of trivia Required Reading didn't know: Two players with the same first name wore No. 18 - Darryl Strawberry and Darryl Hamilton
  17. surely you could sell them and buy Mets opener tickets with the proceeds?
  18. This cements his wearing a Dodger hat into Cooperstown in my mind.
  19. it was upside down at my newsstand this morning so i didnt notice, needless to say i dont buy it. as for yankee stadium anyone with a brain knows this building is only ~30 years old. But the Mets are 1-0!! who cares about the fantasies of yankee fans
  20. Just pick up The Post instead, Johan Santana Front AND Back pages. When were the Mets last on the FRONT page?
  21. Willie will take no chances, Sosa relieves Schoenweis after 1 batter. Sosa gets the job done.
  22. Wise is done and Mike Jacobs will face Schoenweis!! he gets Jacobs to ground out, the runners advance to 2nd and 3rd.
  23. Santana done after 7. Wise has allowed 2 baserunners while getting 1 out in the first 3 batters of the 8th...
